Do You Know Someone Perfect for McKinley PTA? Is it you? We need the following Officers for the 2010 - 2011 McKinley PTA! McKinley PTA has the following positions open for the 2010 - 2011 school year, and we're searching for candidates to fill these openings. If you're interested in getting more involved in McKinley school life, if you want to play a more active role in planning next year's school season, or if you have a skills suited to these openings, we'd love to hear from you. High priority is the Nominating Committee, as it will help our “talent search” for next year’s PTA. Please don’t wait – McKinley needs you! Nominating Committee: The purpose of the nominating committee is to recognize and seek qualified nominees for the elected leadership of the PTA. The members of the committee, therefore, have a tremendous influence on the future of the PTA and should be selected carefully. Serving on a nominating committee is an honor and a privilege. This committee is the PTAs most influential internal body, and because it deals with sensitive issues, deliberations of this committee are kept confidential. Auditor: The PTA auditor is an elected officer and member of the executive board. The auditor is responsible for examining all financial transactions over the course of the year. Bylaw Committee: This committee is responsible for reviewing the bylaws, which are the rules to keep the PTA functioning in an orderly manner. The Parliamentarian chairs this committee, and the approved bylaws are filed with the state of California. Financial Secretary: The financial secretary is an elected officer authorized to receive all monies collected by the PTA. The financial secretary may be a member of the budget committee. Fundraising Committee: The major responsibility of the fundraising committee is to raise the amount needed to meet the proposed unit budget. Honorary Service Awards Committee: The Honorary Service Award (HSA) program encourages PTA to honor individuals or groups through donations to the HSA program fund of the California State PTA. Secretary: The recording secretary is elected by the association and is one of the three required officers for a PTA. The duties of this position consist of keeping accurate, concise and permanent records of all meetings of the PTA and the executive board. Treasurer: The treasurer is an elected officer and the authorized custodian of all funds of the local PTA. The treasurer’s duties also include keeping records and preparing reports to comply with local, state and federal laws. Volunteers: School volunteers may be parents, community members, senior citizens or upper grade students who augment and complement the educational program. Volunteers can be utilized in a variety of situations in schools, ranging from one time only to monthly, weekly or daily commitments. They may provide tutorial help, monitor lunchrooms, staff libraries and supervise playgrounds. Volunteers assist the classroom teacher, the school nurse or the clerical staff. They may make telephone calls, enter data, type or file. They might share a special skill, occupation or talent with the students. January 8, 2010 Dear SMMUSD Parents, We can all take pride in the accomplishments of our district and its students. During the State of Our Schools presentations this fall, I reported that our district’s students continue to grow and outperform other districts on the state and national performance levels. This could not have been accomplished without the dedication and commitment of all district employees to the success of our students. Their efforts have made a difference in the lives and futures of the students that we serve. I also reported that the district has had to deal with a major state budget shortfall to education over the last two years, resulting in the district making $4.5 million in cuts last year. As a result, the district must continue to prepare to make significant budget reductions to maintain a balanced budget, as required by law. These reductions, based on current information, could be as much as $8 million for the 2010-11 school year. Indications are coming from Sacramento that when the Governor proposes the 2010-11 state budget this month, there will still be multi-billion dollar deficits and most likely continued under funding of public schools. The budget picture could worsen. During the next six months, the Board of Education will be studying potential revenue enhancements and budget reductions. Examples of these include:  a new parcel tax to offset a portion of this shortfall  a reduction in the school year by five days  increases in class size at all grade levels  additional positions being cut at the district office and school sites  additional energy and utilities conservation  fewer summer school class offerings  reductions of support staff such as librarians, nurses, counselors, and classroom aides The board and district administration take their fiduciary and financial responsibilities seriously and will be making decisions in the best overall interest of the students, parents, community, and staff in preparation of the 2010-11 budget. You are encouraged to attend board meetings and budget presentations (calendar on page two) to learn more about the impact of the states funding short fall on the district’s budget. Course Description:

Students learn arm motions, hand, leg and feet formations and voice projection. Cheers, chants, and dance movements are taught with flair and enthusiasm by our experienced instructors. Returning students learn advanced techniques. Students are prepared for school team tryouts looking sharp and jazzy! All students are invited to participate in a performance at the end of the session.

Registration:

Please register 20 minutes before your class time with the instructor. If you miss the first week, you may register 10 minutes before your class up to the fourth week. All students ages 5-15 are accepted.

Class Fees: Only $6 per lesson if you pay in full for the entire session ($66), or $7 if you pay weekly. There is $6.00 registration fee paid once per 10 week session. Scholarships Available. Attire for Cheerleading:

Students should wear comfortable clothing; shorts or sweat pants with a t-shirt and tennis shoes. Pom poms are available at class for $20. If desired, you may purchase a uniform (vest, skirt, bloomers & socks) at class. We will fit your child or teen with the proper size.
