S2 2019 Hello again to another edition of Alsco University Prospects – our periodic update on what’s new and useful in our learning platform and how to get the most out of it. It’s been a busy year producing content and getting the word out to all stakeholders and we’re excited to share with you what’s new.

1E November Message It’s been a great year. In April we took Alsco University to the Office Manager meeting in Portland and we were proud to showcase the rollout and our initial content. We pledged that more was to come and in this edition we’re happy to show you the results. Along with that, we want to give you a preview of what’s to come in the year ahead and a sneak peak of an academy project that we mentioned – the Office Academy - to help all Office Managers and their departments succeed in handling their time-specific tasks.

One of the more engaging patterns to frame a topic in is What – So What – Now What which helps us state the subject, look at it critically and then see where it’s going. As we reach the finish line of 2019 it’s a great time to look at Alsco University and do that, especially as we look towards the coming year and what it will bring.

WHAT This year we have delivered on our promise to create a platform for learning and engagement. Somewhere that we can go and direct others to gain valuable skills and understand essential concepts. We’ve built an academy of learning sessions for ABEL that is a structured path to operational excellence. Beginning with Fundamentals, individuals then progress to Blueprint training to enable role and task based success. Beyond that level comes ABELity learning that is a higher-paced and more focused topic-based collection of sessions that convey concepts and actions to those who operate at a higher level in ABEL.

In the Compliance Academy we have initiated the first stages of monthly on-going safety training for all branch personnel in a fresh format and with updated materials. Coupled with resources for the presenter we are using this as a Launchpad to go further next year. Beyond these efforts the Sales and Corporate/HR Academies have continued to expand and resources have also become available by way of a library. Alsco University is open for business and is offering opportunities and guided learning to enable better work now and better learning for the workforce of the future.

SO WHAT We’re building for endurance and flexibility. A systematic housing of resources that is able to adapt and grow. What does this mean? First, learning that is easy to find and easy to grasp. As attention spans become shorter and learning styles evolve we recognize the need to provide knowledge in a timesensitive manner and angled to meet the needs of the learner. As new technologies come online and new learning styles become widespread we are learning too. As 2020 unfolds we’ll see new styles for training sessions and delivery methods. We also recognize that in order for our products and resources to be attractive they need to stay fresh and their content cannot be allowed to become stale.

We cannot build our own future without helping others to build theirs Learning has the capacity to change an individual’s outlook, a team’s trajectory, and a company’s ability to achieve its mission. And Alsco has a mission, we are committed to continuing our legacy of service, quality, leadership and growth. Combining that capacity with the wisdom and expertise that Alsco holds is what Alsco University is about – leveraging current potentials combined with our collective knowledge. That’s how we build the future, that’s how we get there. And this is why we are committed to learning too; we are learning the best ways, the most effective methods, and searching for the most efficient processes that we can empower our workforce with. That’s what we have in our sights and what we are doing.

NOW WHAT 2020 is approaching fast and there is excitement for our production in the coming year. So where does the road go from here? Here’s what we are looking at: MORE ABEL As we augment what’s already published this will result in further sessions in the Daily Operations arena, as well as ABELity advanced topics, and we’ll also see topics such as Service Portal and Production Schedule made available. GREEN LINE Building on this year’s steps to increase reach and topic freshness, our safety training program will expand to incorporate more information and resources as well as use different media to deliver engaging and essential knowledge that can save lives and protect us and our facilities. OFFICE ACADEMY Dedicated to assisting all Office Managers and those wishing to undertake more responsibilities in the branch, the Office Academy, as promised, will come online with a project we’ve been working on for a long time. We call it The RedBook and we know it will change the way an Office Manager approaches their time-specific tasks and to ensure operational success. More on this closer to its launch in January.

SALES & SERVICE Continuing the establishment of a solid platform of support and training in our customer-facing field will mean a continued release of material to make sure that anyone engaged in this area has the resources that they need. CORPORATE BROADCASTING Connecting you to the departments that you interact with will become a greater focus in 2020, meaning that departments such as payroll, auditing, accounting and fleet, will all gain exposure and resource availability to all learners who need it. LEADERSHIP ACADEMY Bringing together the best information that can challenge, inform and direct those who lead teams and departments means that in 2020 we will launch a program of materials ranging from understanding concepts and systems to techniques for interviewing, coaching and effective management. This is the foundation of the Leadership Academy that will roll out through the year. And of course, there’s more that we’ll share as it’s launched. We’re looking forward to sharing what we make with you and finding new ways to learn and make Alsco better. We’ll see you out in the branches in 2020!

Front and Center

2019 has seen a focus on bringing ABEL Blueprint training to office activities. We now have essential learning programs for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Daily Operations – all providing knowledge of concepts and processes as well as the necessary steps to complete tasks and ensure success in those roles. Created as a tool for helping new employees and cross-training existing team members, these sessions provide a basis for learning conversations in the branch between personnel as well as a path to establishing an individual in a job role. We know they will provide not only that, but also opportunities for growth and talent discovery. Available to all, they are a great way to see what each role in the branch takes and what it takes care of. Blueprint training is our path to job success, check them out!

WHAT IS THE REDBOOK? The RedBook was developed from the concept of the Office Manager month-end checklist. A ready reference, based on time-sensitive tasks and processes that are essential to smooth operational and branch success. The RedBook contains a calendar with days that are coded with specific checklists to illustrate that date’s tasks to either commence or complete. Next comes the checklists that can be used to make sure the items get done and track progress. And if further guidance is needed, each task comes with a process sheet showing the steps or items necessary to complete it. Taking a course: It couldn’t be simpler: Just use the Modules Available to me section on the front page of Alsco University and select the item you want to take! Assigning courses: For OMs who want an employee to have a course or a group of courses (curriculum) assigned to an employee just send an email to [email protected] Telling us WHO and WHAT ROLE and we will assign the correct courses to meet your request needs. It’s that simple!

Tracking Progress: Reports Want to know how your branch is doing? It’s getting easier to find out. Office Managers can go to Alsco University and click on the Reports option on the side menu. On the reports screen just select Course Completion by Branch report, then choose the course and select your branch and hit UPDATE RESULTS to see individual results!
