The prayer meeting consists of saying the rosary with meditations from Fr. Peyton’s Rosary Prayer book, followed by 40 minutes of prayers to the Holy Spirit, Jesus and Mary. We pray for priests, the church, and the world. Shepherds of Christ was founded in 1994 by Fr. Edward J. Carter S.J. For more information visit www.sofc.org. JOB OPPORTUNITY We received the following request from a local woman seeking to hire a driver to take her to appointments and errands. Please call her if you are interested. Due to mild physical limitations, I don't drive and need someone to take me to medical appointments and stores. I'm able to walk and do not use a wheelchair. You'd work day shifts Saturday (10:00- 2:30) and/or during the week (no later than 6:30). If you have a sedan (preferred) or SUV car that you can use, and you're free some Saturdays or at least one or two afternoons a week, please contact me. I could use a 10 min. ride on a Friday early eve as well. You would really be making a difference in my life. Position is open immediately and is paid by check (not under the table). Pay is $13.70/ hr. to start, plus reimbursement for gas and wear and tear. There will be a pay increase soon. Please call me at 508-507-9662 or email [email protected]. PILGRIMAGE TO MEDJUGORJE A Pilgrimage to Medjugorje will take place September 27 to October 5. The spiritual director is Fr. Tim Murphy. ATTACKS AGAINST GOD Militants burn down church in Chile Accusing the local bishop of complicity with historic oppression, militants from the indigenous Mapuche people burned down a church in Cañete, Chile, on April 12. It was the tenth Catholic church attacked by Mapuche militants over the past two years. The nation’s first Mapuche prelate, Bishop Jorge Enrique Concha Cayuqueo, reports that “most of the Mapuche are Catholic – and thus the Mapuche themselves are victims of the militants’ attacks.” IS GOD CALLING YOU? If you are a man ranging in the age from 30 to 60 who loves God and desires to be a shepherd among his people… consider Pope St. John XXIII National Seminary, a tested priestly program since 1964. We are proud of our 650+ alumni priests who serve in over 150 dioceses and religious orders. Come, learn, and live the priestly life at Pope St. John XXIII in Weston, MA. For information about the seminary please visit www.psjs.edu or call Ken Watts at 781-899-5500. If you, or someone close to you, longs to be reconciled with this issue, a workshop presented by the Metropolitan Tribunal explaining this process and answering your questions, will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, at St. Edward Parish, Medfield. SPRING WEEKEND RETREAT A Spring Weekend Retreat Merciful Like the Father with Fr. SAINT MARY PARISH My brothers and sisters in Christ, We have a few changes coming to our household in the next month. Fr. Murphy recently received a place at Regina Cleri in Boston. This is the home for retired clergy. There is a pretty good-sized waiting list for rooms. Fr. Tim put his name on the list a few years ago and it came to the top last month. The policy is that if a priest says that he is not ready to take the room then his name goes back to the bottom of the list. So Fr. Murphy will be moving in early May. We will miss him a lot in the house. He brings a great amount of joy and fraternity to the house. We will still see him helping out in the parish. Also, last week Thomas Idzek moved into the house for the summer. He is planning to study at St. John's Seminary in September. Thomas is a seminarian jointly sponsored by the Archdiocese of Boston and the Archdiocese for Military Services. His plan is to serve both Archdioceses as a priest. Please welcome Thomas to the parish and pray for his discernment and formation. – Father Michael

Someone has volunteered to drive them the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. They are looking for others to drive them the other Sundays. If you are able to do this work of mercy, please contact the rectory. ST. VINCENT DE PAUL In the Gospel today, Jesus says “I give you a new commandment: love one another…This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” In the life of Mother Teresa, the Two Commandments – to love God and to love our neighbor were inseparable. In her life and work, she exemplified the relationship between the two: if we do not love God we cannot love our neighbor, and if we do not love our neighbor, we cannot love God. For the grace to be the disciples of Jesus, we pray: Grant us the grace to be kind and loving. For the poor we serve, Grant us the grace to be non-judgmental. Amen.

THE NAME OF GOD IS MERCY – POPE FRANCIS Pope Francis has put together a book on Mercy. It is very helpful, so we continue to insert some of his thoughts. Q: J esus goes and heals and integr ates the mar ginalized… Jesus enter s into contact with the leper . He touches him. In so doing, he teaches us what to do when faced with people who suffer physically and spiritually. This is the example we need to follow, and in so doing we overcome prejudice and rigidity… A nd what about the risk of “contamination,” the risk of letting oneself be contaminated? A: We need to enter the dar kness, the night in which so many of our br other s live. We need to be able to make contact with them and let them feel our closeness, without letting ourselves be wrapped up in that darkness and influenced by it. Caring for outcasts and sinners does not mean letting the wolves attack the flock. It means trying to reach everyone by sharing the experience of mercy, which we ourselves have experienced, without ever caving in to the temptation of feeling that we are just or perfect. The more conscious we are of our wretchedness and our sins, the more we experience the love and infinite mercy of God among us, and the more capable we are of looking upon the many “wounded” we meet along the way with acceptance and mercy. So we must avoid the attitude of someone who judges and condemns from the lofty heights of his own certainty, looking for the splinter in his brother’s eye while remaining unaware of the beam in his own. Let us always remember that God rejoices more when one sinner returns to the fold than when ninety-nine righteous people have no need of repentance. When a person begins to recognize the sickness in their soul, when the Holy Spirit – the Grace of God –acts within them and moves their heart toward an initial recognition of their own sins, he needs to find an open door, not a closed one. He needs to find acceptance, not judgment, prejudice, or condemnation. He needs to be helped, not pushed away or cast out. Sometimes, when Christians think like scholars of the law, their hearts extinguish that which the Holy spirit lights up in the heart of a sinner when he stands at the threshold, when he starts to feel nostalgia for God.

Fifth Sunday of Easter
