The Story of George Washington Carver

Don’t underestimate the power of a very small thing. Something as tiny as a peanut, much comfort can bring.

What it takes is a person like you who chooses to open their creative mind a person who is willing to try something new to help their community and all mankind.

Dr. George Washington Carver looked around one day and heard God speak to his heart. God said, “Get up George! I need you to help my people. Let’s get going! It’s time to start.”

George came up with a plan and planted some seeds, then sat back and prayed for rain. He went to work in his old-fashioned laboratory, using his math and science brain.

After weeks of hard labor, pulling up weeds, talking to his plants, and taking good care of his crops, it was time to pick the peanuts and sweet potatoes from the fields. George was tired, but refused to stop.

He picked the peanuts and sweet potatoes, and headed back to his lab. He knew he had work to do. He worked night and day, and day and night. Wow! It’s a lot of work to create something new.

“YES! Thank you, Lord!” George exclaimed, as he looked around his laboratory one day. He realized that God had used him in a very special way.

George shared his creations with the world. He used peanuts to make beautiful wood stain, dye, ink, paint, plastics, cosmetics, soap, milk, and special medicinal oil for pain.

He created more than 300 products from peanuts. That’s a lot of inventions from something so small. From sweet potatoes, he made molasses, postage stamp glue, flour, vinegar, rubber, gasoline, more than 118 products in all.

In case you are wondering what you can create, learn all you can, and open up your mind. Listen with your heart when God speaks. He’ll tell you when it’s your time.
