Day of Celebration WEDNESDAY, JUNE 16, 2021

Our History and Mission The mission of Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation is to ensure the excellence as well as the continuance of Catholic Schools on Long Island by increasing awareness and by providing scholarship and program funding for the needs of students and schools. In January 2004, Bishop William F. Murphy and former Superintendent of Schools and current Secretary of Education, Sister Joanne Callahan, became increasingly concerned about the costs and sustainability of Catholic elementary schools on Long Island. They enlisted a committee to study the challenges facing the schools. In answering the call to action to reverse the declining numbers of students in the Catholic elementary schools across Long Island, Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation was established in September 2005 as a tax-exempt, non-for-profi t public charity. Lewis S. Ranieri was appointed by Bishop Murphy to chair the foundation. As chairman, Mr. Ranieri put together a prominent board of professionals, business leaders and diocesan administration. Over twelve years later, there are 39 thriving elementary schools in our diocese educating more than 20,000 students. Parents seeking tuition assistance for their children now have a place to rely on for support. In its history the Foundation has provided over $20 million in scholarship and school aid, and helped thousands of families across Long Island. On behalf of Tomorrow’s Hope, we look forward to continuing our service to the community through the generosity of our supporters.

About Carol Silva, Livestream Event Co-Host Carol Silva is the veteran, Emmy Award-winning television and radio news anchor, who spent 33 years in the lead anchor chair at News 12 Long Island. She also shared life from the road reporting from Ground Zero, Albany, Washington, New Orleans and Texas. Carol has covered Popes, Presidential elections, State and Congressional hearings and the struggles and rewards of everyday life. Carol’s three Emmys are among her more than 40 journalism awards. She is a 2019 inductee into the prestigious New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television, Arts & Sciences’ “Silver Circle” and in the Long Island Journalism Hall of Fame. A New York Institute of Technology graduate, Carol was their 2018 commencement speaker and awarded NYIT’s Honorary Doctorate for her distinguished career. Carol is also a New York State “Woman of Distinction.” She’s often called an optimist, but Carol clarifi es her positive attitude isn’t the stu of rainbows and unicorns. She’s been inspired by thousands of people in the stories she’s told. People who’ve somehow found a way to get beyond whatever disaster life has thrown in their path. Carol is now dedicated to celebrating our human ability to move past the worst of things. When she was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, her fi rst words were, “Thank you God for my healing.” 51-weeks later Carol was healed. She and her doctors credit her positive attitude, her faith and great medicine. Two days before her diagnosis, Carol had packed the New York Marriott Marquis Ballroom, leading the Executive Leadership panel for the international WICT Leadership Conference (Women in Cable Telecommunications.) She lifted the nearly 900 applauding women to their feet with her focus on how to be their best and do their best, on those days they’re not sure where to fi nd their best. Carol’s career started at WBAB & WLIR rock radio stations, moving through WPIX-FM, the RKO Radio Network and PBS-TV in NY. She and her husband have 2 sons and a daughter. They coached their children’s boys and girls soccer teams, mentored young Hispanic players and for 22-years taught PreCana marriage preparation to engaged couples. Carol was a PTA school board member, a Girl Scout Leader and was given The Juliette Low Award, Girl Scout’s highest volunteer commendation. Carol is a contributor to Long Island Woman Magazine. A Mexican American, she has been named Hispanic of the Year by the Su olk County Police Department and a Hispanic role model by the Nassau County Hispanic Cultural Association. Carol is now a full-time public speaker, spreading what she’s learned from covering decades of bad to great news. She speaks to business, women’s, community, and school groups about motivation, working women, how to fi nd your power, the confi dence challenges facing young people, and coming back from defeat. Carol knows. She still has her 1983 rejection letter from Cablevision hanging in her o ce, reminding her that “No” is just the fi rst round of negotiations.

The Peg Ranieri Teacher Award Peg Ranieri, along with her husband Lewis, was one of the founding members of Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation. Catholic education always held a tremendously big place in Peg’s heart. Peg and Lewis felt every child should be afforded the opportunity to attend Catholic school. In the early years of Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation, Peg ran the Silent Auction for the STARS for Students Gala - it was her baby and she took great pride in it! As her daughter Peggy attended Catholic school, Peg was always an active parent volunteer at Cure of Ars, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Regional School, and Kellenberg Memorial High School. When SEAS needed assistance in the technology department, Peg jumped in with both feet, even teaching a few classes when needed! Even after Peggy graduated, Peg’s presence was always felt in the schools. While Peggy was in school, her mother fostered relationships with teachers throughout the years and always knew the importance of their vocation of spreading the Catholic faith. This year, The Peg Ranieri Teacher Award will be given to one deserving teacher within the Diocese of Rockville Centre. Tomorrow's Hope Foundation Chairman, Lewis S. Ranieri, Bishop William F.
