INTRODUCTION In our daily life, communication enables us to connect with people, share our experiences and needs, and strengthen our bonds. It allows us to communicate our views, share information, and express our emotions. We cannot deny that the educational paradigm is rapidly advancing into a new era. A response to the radical shift in education is Elements and Functions of Communication: Self-Learning Module for Senior High School Students. It provides numerous activities with successful communication as the primary goal. Elements and Functions of Communication: Self Learning Module for Senior High School students uses the following principles: meaningful learning and authenticity using task-based approaches. This module includes the following components: Objective states what students will know or be able to do at the end of the lesson. Activate comes in the form of activity for unlocking the students' prior knowledge and introducing the topic. Learn and Work! provides the inputs for the topic and discussions of the key concepts and ideas for the lesson. It also includes assessments to simultaneously evaluate students' progress and develop their skills. Let's Practice provides varied tasks that engage students in exercises and task-based activities focus on the student's social and community participation. Enhance! can be a task or activity that serves as additional support for learning for the students. Key Takeaway offer a conclusion based on presented facts or information, including the lesson's main points and key messages. Helpful Links provides opportunities to access useful and informative websites related to the topic to enhance learners' information and communication technology (ICT) skills.

According to the University of Minnesota Libraries Publishing, the communication process can be divided into eight elements, each of which performs a crucial role in the process as a whole:

1. Source - or sometimes called "speaker," the origin of the information or message. 2. Message - involves the idea, thoughts, or information shared. 3. Channel - the medium involved in the communication, personal or non-verbal, in which the message is conveyed. 4. Receiver - the recipient of the message. 5. Feedback - Whether verbal or nonverbal, all of these feedback cues let the sender know how well and accurately—or how poorly the message was received. 6. Environment - involves the atmosphere, psychological and physical space in which you communicate. 7. Context - is the set of conditions that define an event, a statement, or a concept and allow for a thorough understanding and evaluation. 8. Interference - anything that prevents or alters the source's intended meaning

Functions of Communication According to Sipacio and Balgos (2016), there are five functions of communication: 1. Control - Communication is used to control one's behavior 2. Social Interaction - Communication enables people to interact with one another. 3. Motivation - People are inspired or encouraged to live better lives by communication. 4. Emotional Expression - Communication encourages individuals to communicate their feelings and emotions 5. Information Dissemination - Communication serves to share information

Enhanced! I. In your current community, interview someone and ask how they use communication in their daily life. See the guide questions below. What do you do for a living? How do you communicate with other people? Is communication important to you? Why or why not? What are the interferences or barriers you encountered? How did you overcome them? II. Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, we have changed how and why we communicate. Discuss with a classmate all these changes, particularly on the elements and functions of communication. Present your work to the class. III. Observe your surroundings, and identify a situation or people that show communication. Describe their communication process. See if you can find all eight components and provide an example for each one. IV. Prepare a speech that functions as a motivation to encourage people to live better. Present your work in the class.
