They were not wealthy but were happy and loved each other. It was just another day for the couple. As usual, they woke up at dawn; after breakfast, Malik went to the market to sell vegetables. Reena was occupied with her household work. Later in the afternoon, the atmosphere changed drastically and became sadder and duller. The sky was crowded with gray clouds. People of the city could not even imagine what might be happening on the other side of the world—the world with extraordinary things that humans could never think of its existence. Malik looked at the sky and thought to return home as soon as possible. He managed to sell all the vegetables and fruits by evening and returned. The weather was frigid, and the strong wind shook the trees. It was raining heavily like nature sinking everything inside; the lightning and strong wind was terrifying.

Reena and Malik couldn’t sleep the entire night. The next morning, Malik opened the window; he heeded dawn. They saw the smog in the field, as the lighting had struck the trees and burnt them down. Reena and Malik rushed towards the area; they saw the burned grass. Some trees were burning blue color. The soil was hot as if it has the flesh to the ground. A man laid dead and impaired lady with a basket lying next to her. Malik glanced at the dead man; he looked majestic, affluent, and lifeless. The beauty of a wounded lady can enchant anyone on earth. She looked magnificent despite being injured; her broad forehead, straight nose, and long brown hair cannot be left unnoticed. They appeared rich; their clothes were pure silk. “Malik… Hurry, she is alive.” Reena shout. The severely injured lady was powerless and tried. She opened her eyes to glance at a lifeless man and breathed laboriously; tears flowed down to her cheeks. She held Reena’s hand and said, “We are angelic.” The lady gave a mirror and whispered something into Reena’s ear. Reena looked shocked. Then, she pointed at the basket. Reena uncovered the sheet. Inside the basket, a baby girl was sleeping peacefully. The lady died in Reena’s arms; a tiny blue light emerged from her lips as if it was her soul and fastened into the gem placed in the locket. Reena and Malik became mute and couldn’t comprehend what was happening. Reena gently settled her head on the ground and looked at the basket. After Malik buried the dead couple, Reena and

Malik adopted the baby girl and went back home. Reena looked at the baby and adored her; she said to Malik, “I will raise this baby as my own.” “I will name her “Riya.” “What she said to you?” Malik asked curiously. Reena looked at the locket mysteriously and said, “BLUE IS PURE. RED IS EVIL. BLUE IS WHAT SHE GOT RED IS GIVEN.” “YOU MUST NOT REMOVE THE LOCKET.”

eena and Malik lived in a small village called Kasal. The lovely couple was very generous. All they had a small farm, which Malik had inherited from his father. They were not wealthy but were happy and loved each other. Malik was a tall, fair, handsome man. He was a young and good looking, skilled, enthusiastic, honest man with a very positive and caring nature. Malik had lost his parents at a very young age and, since then, grew vegetables for a living. Before his marriage, many opulent maidens from the town were keen to marry him, but he fell for a young girl Reena who was aiding a small bird in the market, and it was love at first sight. Malik knew she was the one. When he proposed to her for marriage, there wasn’t even a single flaw that Reena could point out at him and refuse his marriage proposal. Later, at the age of eighteen, they got married and lived happily ever since. Malik was too caring and kind towards Reena. He always worked hard to provide all comforts to his beloved

wife. Reena was a beautiful, calm, and loving woman. She had a lot of patience, compassion, and gratitude. The couple was always on their toes to help others. They had never interfered in unnecessary things, which had kept them out of trouble all these years. Reena and Malik had a happy life, yet they wished nothing more than a kid’s blessing. It had been ten years for their marriage, but Reena was not able to conceive a child. Being childless, Reena became very emotional and sad. She was blaming herself, and Malik’s affection towards her made her feel even guiltier. Days were passing, and slowly they were becoming more hopeless and helpless. It was just another day for the couple. As usual, they woke up at dawn; after breakfast, Malik went to the market to sell vegetables. Reena was occupied with her household work. Everything was fine until later afternoon; the atmosphere changed drastically and became sadder and duller; Gray clouds crowded the sky, and windy air was the storm’s sign. Citizens of the Kasal city could not even imagine what might be happening on the other side of the world—the world with extraordinary things that humans could never think of its existence. Malik looked at the sky and thought to return home as soon as possible. He managed to sell all vegetables and fruits and returned immediately. The weather was frigid, and the strong wind shook the trees. Soon it started raining very heavily as it seemed nature was sinking everything inside; the lightning and strong wind were terrifying. looked worried and restless. Something was bothering her; her intuition was telling her that something terrible was about to happen. ‘What is happening today?’ Reena said in a stressed tone. “I don’t know, love; close the door,” said Malik. She heard him and closed the door. Suddenly they hear a scream, both Scared. Afraid, Reena hugged Malik. In a fluster, Malik took a lantern and hurried towards the door, but Reena stopped him. “No… Don’t go,” Afraid Reena said in a panic voice. “How can’t I? There is someone outside; they need help.” Said Malik. “I beg, please don’t go, I can’t lose you.” She resembled scared, and started crying. Malik held her hand and hugged her. They couldn’t sleep the entire night. The next morning, Malik opened the window; he heeded dawn. They saw the smog in the field, as the lighting had struck the trees and burnt them down. Inside the basket, a baby girl was sleeping peacefully. “Save my child.” Wounded lady pleads to the couple. Reena and Malik nodded. The lady died in Reena’s arms; a tiny blue light emerged from her lips as if it was her soul and fastened into the gem placed in the locket. Malik looked at the locket. It had bluestone and blue fire burning inside the stone. After some time, the baby woke up weeping from a nap. Reena and Malik were surprised. The baby had one blue eye and another red. “No,” said Malik. “We can’t have this child. It is witchcraft, evil. It will get us killed.” He added. Reena looked startled, “didn’t you see her parents? How can she be unholy?” she said. “Why can’t you understand we live in society? Everyone knows we don’t have a child. Villagers will not understand her uniqueness. They will see her as a witch and will burn us alive.” He talked furiously. “Then we shall move somewhere else.” Reena looked at him sharply. “Somewhere else? Have you lost your mind?” Malik raised his voice. Reena wiped out. She sat on the chair. “Malik,” she called him. “I have lived my life barren. God has given me the chance to have motherhood. I cannot abandon her.” She said. Malik shed a tear and helplessly said, “We shall leave by dawn.” Their hut was filled with joy by each giggle; Reena took the locket and tied it around the baby’s neck. Reena and Malik were astonished to see the red-eye transfiguring blue.
