1-What is Concentration? Dear students the secret of success lies in concentration.

CONCENTRATION IS FOCUSSED ATTENTION. The ancient belief of only the sages requires this power of concentration is now proved wrong. In day-to-day life, you have to give complete attention to any job you perform. Students need to give concentrate in the classes and in studies to understand the subject and score high marks. In this life, every person who is performing any task in any field requires this concentration.

2-Why Concentration is Needed? When we are concentrating on one object or thing, for example, students in studies, our mind leaves other unrelated thoughts and things and all attention is focussed on the things which we are performing. Brain grasps all the things which you studied. Work efficiency improves. Fewer mistakes on the work front. Why should we need to do continuous practice to acquire concentration? Because this mind is very unstable and is very difficult to control. But the most important thing is that we can still control this unstable mind

by

practice,

celibacy,

Detachment. But what about the students?

This mind is very much distracted most of the time, stubborn and strong. To control this mind, we require a lot of patience, intelligence, smartness, and understanding of the basic characteristic of the mind. Why? Because everything in this world has got its characteristics. The same way the mind has characteristics of interfering in all matters, poking its nose in all matters, it has the habit of dancing madly. It has the habit of having different odd wishes, the habit of thinking

many

things,

taking

tension

and

crying

unnecessary, the habit of building the castle in the air, the habit of multitasking (doing all work together) except doing what is necessary. Originally

mind

is

distracted

and

the

surrounding

environment makes it more distracted. That is the reason why the person who wants to control his/her mind should stay away from such a destructive distracting environment.

3-Causes of Poor Concentration. 

Poor Nutrition: Junk foods, oily foods, food lack of essential nutrients gives rise to stress, tiredness, reduced 6

HOW TO INCREASE CONCENTRATION AND STUDY WELL work efficiency and lack of concentration, lethargy, laziness. Junk foods are foods that have very low nutritional value. They have high fat, sugar, and salt content. Junk foods contain excessive salt and sugar. This amount of salt and sugar raises our blood pressure quickly. Eat balanced food like vegetables, fruits, fiberrich foods. These are the foods that have high nutritional value. Also, high fatty foods give rise to lethargy, laziness, poor concentration. 

Lack of Sleep: During sleep repair of injured tissues takes place. There is no physical activity. There are also fewer brain/mind activities. Whole-body gets to rest. Good

quality

sleep

is

a

must.

Sleep

reduces

inflammation. Minimum 6 to 8 hours sleep is a must. 

Emotional un-stability: Because of negative emotions like

anxiety,

overconfidence

depression, leads

to

emotional lack

o

trauma,

concentration.

Incorporate a positive attitude towards life. Learn to control emotions deliberately. Have a positive image of yourself. 

Underestimating your Efficiency: Underestimating your efficiency leads to poor concentration. All person in this world is blessed with equal brain capacity. You have to use your brain maximum. Not to have negative feelings towards your work and don’t underestimate your work efficiency.



Distraction: Students have the strongest distraction in the form of mobile games and electronic media television CD-player, computer, laptop smartphone, Tab, 7

Improper

time

management:

Proper

time

management is very crucial to fulfilling day-to-day duties. Improper time management makes a person give less attention to day-to-day duties leads to poor concentration.

The

person

encounters

difficulty

following a disciplined routine and concentrates on dayto-day duties. 

Others: Some medications, some diseases, body conditions make a person lethargic, sleepy, sluggish, and slow. Sometimes even bad habits like drinking, smoking, drug abuse doesn’t allow a person to give concentrate on duties they are performing.

4-Tips for Good Concentration. 

Reduce stress, anxiety, depression: Always it is harder to concentrate when you are under stress. Try to reduce stress by eradicating deliberately all reasons of stress and have a positive mental attitude for every life situation. That makes a person more attentive and improves concentration.



Get enough quality sleep: Everyday sleep and get up at the same time make a sleeping pattern and let the body sets the biological clock for the sleeping pattern. 8

HOW TO INCREASE CONCENTRATION AND STUDY WELL The regular sleeping pattern helps the person to give attention to all duties in day-to-day life and improves concentration. 

Eat a balanced diet: A balanced diet helps us to grow healthy and happy this also improves concentration. Junk foods are unhealthy foods having high calories and low nutritional value causes tiredness, fatigue, nausea, and poor concentration.

Set aside routine study time: Every day studying same

a

and

the

mind

automatically grasp as “study time”. This helps to build concentration. 

Set a realistic goal: Set aside your aim; goal so that you can achieve it in near future. This makes me enthusiastic. Since it is achievable automatically mind concentrates and concentration improves.



Keep mind free always except study: This is most important because if your mind is preoccupied with many things there no place for study. Keep mind free of all

5-How to Achieve this Concentration? Here comes the role of our sensory organs like eyes, ears, tongue, nose, and skin. These are the VEHICLES OF THE MIND. All these five senses can carry the mind anywhere. That is the reason why we should use our intelligence, smartness, patience, and discipline to control our senses. Our mind is distracted. It is inherited. Along with our sensory organs like the eye, ear, nose, tongue, and skin always attracting minds to themselves, the mind can also cheat. All our five sensory organs are very power full. The mind always running around them. And also mind has its wishes. That wishes have the power to distract the mind to great extent. 

That means don’t look at the things which you are not supposed to look at.



Don’t listen to things which you are not supposed to hear.



Don’t speak the things which you are not supposed to speak.



Don’t do the things which you are not supposed to do.

BUT Some time without the help of all senses this mind can go freely wherever it wants to go.

Thus, the mind is always distracted and dancing like a monkey on the hand of its unending wishes with the support of sensory organs. Then how you expect concentration from this distracted mind? Then how to keep the mind in a state of equilibrium? How to channelize the flow of mind in one direction? Training and educating the mind and keeping in discipline is only the solution.

Tips to Train the Mind 

At one time mind has to focus on one thing only. You have to inform the mind.



If it doesn’t listen then you should be tough and order mind.



But along with all things it is very important to live a disciplined life.

From the morning after getting up to till you sleep a night, in that time what all work you have to do, do honestly with devotion and complete involvement
