PREFACE In accordance with the latest syllabus prescribed by the Council for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education Examination, New Delhi.
Board examinations are crucial milestone for every student. In order for them to perform well in the exam, we have introduced ICSE Chapterwise MCQs for the First Semester Examinations, for Class X. We have designed the book based on the Modified Assessement Plan issued by the Board on August 6, 2021. Thus, students can attempt questions even in changing scenarios and exam patterns. The Specimen Question Papers released by the CISCE in August, 2021 have be strictly followed in formulating different categories of questions. The content of the book has been updated according to the latest Reduced Syllabi issued by the Board on July 19, 2021. The book is bifurcated into two volumes for the ease of the students. Subjects included in first volume of the book are Hindi, English-I, English-II, History & Civics and Geography, while the other volume of the book contains – Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and Computer Applications. Subject matter experts and teachers from across the country have helped in compiling the contents of the book. Questions are segregated as per their respective chapters to facilitate easy navigation. 1. Majority of the students explained the immediate cause of the great revolt correctly barring a few exceptions who explained the immediate causes of the First World War instead of the great revolt. 2. Most of the students wrote three causes of the revolt of 1857 incorrectly. A few mentioned other causes instead of political causes. 3. Majority of the students stated all the changes brought about by the British after the revolt of 1857 rather than stating the administrative changes only as asked in the question. 4. A few wrote statements like disrespect shown to Bahadur Shah or end of Company’s rule in India, w.r.t. impacts due to the uprising of 1857 on the Mughal Rule. 5. A few repeated the Policy of Expansion– Doctrine of Lapse, Subsidiary Alliance, etc. All policies of annexations were counted as one point. 6. Some students were unable to write points for the economic causes of the Great Revolt of 1857.

Common Errors While Attempting Mcqs 1. Students don’t read all options carefully hence make mistakes in choosing the most apt answer. 2.
Students are in a hurry to complete the answer so they don’t tend to apply logic to the reasoning based mcq’s.

In comprehension based questions, students should avoid rushing through the passage to answer questions. It is important to take time to understand the passage and select the most suitable option.
4.
In numerical based mcq students overlook the units used in the given data and hence tend to make mistakes in evaluating the right answers.
5.
While choosing the most appropriate answer students should be able to correlate the question with daily life applications and then select the right answer.
6. Students should avoid guess work while answering mcq based questions. 7.
Diagram based mcq should be attempted with utmost care as figures given could be deceptive and one should be able to figure out the jist of the figure.
8. Students should not spend more time on one mcq as these tests are have specific time frames and have to be attempted in short intervals of time. 9.
If two alternatives given are very close to the required answer then try to think of each alternative in different perspective and see whether it fits in the same. The answer should be universally acceptable as one.
