Preface

There was a time when I was not able to handle my life. I was blaming others for my problems. Then I met my Gurus and my inner journey towards self love started. With simple tools and techniques we can learn to break the unhealthy patterns of our life. This was the time when I started to write blogs in self love, which was sharing of my observation of thoughts and feeling with the events happening outside. This chasing of our feelings opens more insights. Even a shift of .00001 percent will do. Once this shift happens it works like seed of self love and happiness has been sown inside and it starts growing. Realisation of what we have heard and read thousand times that "happiness cannot be found outside" brings more happiness inside us. Then one day my one friend, author Dr. Megha came across these blogs and this book came into existence

HAPPINESS Every person deserves happiness.. We spend our lifetime chasing this elusive emotion, sometimes succeeding, sometimes failing. What is it and how much do we really need? If parents can be considered the reason for happiness, every child must be happy. If a child is the reason for happiness, then all parents would have been happy. If a husband is the reason for one's happiness, every wife must be happy. If the same goes for the wife then all husbands would have been happy. If wealth brings happiness every rich person in this world will be happy or if only health is the reason for happiness, every healthy person should be happy. If name and fame are the bringers of happiness, every celebrity must be happy with a perfect life. If we assume knowledge is the reason for happiness all intellectuals would be happy.

But this is not the case, as they may be happy or not in spite of the possession of these valuables. Happiness does not have a definite definition and cannot be quantified too. What defines happiness for one may not be significant for the other. It may not even strike a chord in the other person's mind. An ice cream makes a child so happy. For us adults it may not have the same meaning. We look at people who are happy with limited means, with physical disabilities and even when they are facing adverse situations in life. What makes them happy? Happiness

is

the

realization

of

an

achievement or accomplishment during a particular moment. The realization that we are in possession of something important at that moment, for which we are grateful to have in our life, is 3

happiness. It may be even a single breath or the realization that we can see or hear, or the awareness of nature, air or food. It could be gratitude for parents or for anything else. This cannot be measured at all and has no need to be measured. Although we do try to use words to express the extent of our happiness, it is a very relative thing. The listener may not even feel the extent of your happiness unless it is something they can perceive too. In spite of all this, it is something we yearn for and is the single most goal of our lives, most times. Happiness

is

the

realization

of

an

achievement or accomplishment during a particular moment. In addition we can observe that when we are happy everything else seems beautiful too. 4

What we see outside is the reflection of what we are inside. This recognition of beauty within is Self love. Therefore it will not be wrong to say that “self love is an ingredient for happiness”

Exercise Think of a time in your childhood when you got your favourite ice cream. How did you actually feel? Observe yourself, what do you want to be happy for, at this moment?

SELF LOVE

You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection. - Buddha

SELF LOVE We hear so much about self love. Why is it important to love oneself before loving anyone else. A lot has been said and written about self love, but what is it actually all about?

What is self love? Self love is a state of appreciation for oneself that grows from actions that support our physical, spiritual and our mental growth. The meaning of self love is very subjective and can mean different things to different people. Self love is not being selfish. Self love is not ignoring your flaws. Self love is not narcissism. 7

Self love is not getting stuck in toxic situations and unhealthy relationships. Self love is allowing yourself to make mistakes without questioning your worth. Self love starts developing with initiation of accepting and making peace with our own insecurities. It is very important to recognize that perfection is a myth, it does not always exist. We start valuing ourselves for what we are in "the moment” and let go of the expectations

of

being

perfect

from

ourselves. Instead identify what is important for us to be HAPPY. Self love blesses us with a greater life satisfaction. When we love ourselves we change the way we look at the world too. Thereby giving us a more positive outlook to life. Self love also helps us build habits that are helpful. And refrain from the things that may cause damage to our body or mind or soul. 8

This aids in the maintenance of a balanced mental and physical health. It's all about feeling good within ourselves without looking for any external validations. It helps us slow down the pace of our ever rushing lives and allow us to enjoy the little things, the things that actually matter. Self love is respecting our emotions even when we are not happy. When we love ourselves we give permission to ourselves that sometimes, “it is okay not be okay”. It gives us permission to express negativity too. It gives us permission to be a combo of negative and positives. It gives us permission to be what we are, and to be happy for what we are.

Exercise Recall a time when you were not okay. It could be a time when either someone had wronged 9

you or you had done something wrong. Bring into your awareness your own younger self of that particular

time.

Now without any

judgement, without any questions only with compassion, the same compassion you show to any dearest person, hold the hands of younger self and give all your support, unconditional love and support. See how it feels. This unconditional support to let yourself know that it is okay to feel what you are feeling is self love.
