PREFACE It was an evening, and as far as I remember, I was walking. Walking with my friends was a daily routine back then; it still is, but now somewhat muted. My phone chimed. I pulled my phone out and looked at the screen to find an Instagram notification. I don’t remember the message. That day, none of my friends came out to walk. They joined me later, but before they arrived, I was scrolling through the posts. One post caught my eye, I can’t remember the details very vividly but I tried to draw what I could. And that is where I’d say it all began. I was a good storyteller, or at least that’s what people say. I had already written a story, but that’s for a movie or series, hopefully. I’m not sure yet. So, a thought sprung up in my head looking at that post. A mental image of many people that had their VRs on, walking on the streets like they were an army came clear to my mind. I don’t know why I called them the Insane, perhaps that was the only word I could think of looking at them. I named the rest the Sane. I wrote the first piece of the book when I was in a hospital, seated beside my brother who was diagnosed with dengue. It was when I could relate my writing to a disease. I searched for a cure, but none of them worked; you grab away the phone, the more they are into it. Looking at my brother, I came to believe that kids that age are most affected. He had to go with the population so I wouldn’t say it’s his fault too. I observed him repeatedly, he showed no signs of recession. The more I tried to fix him, the more he rebelled. I, for one, have tried to keep away myself from my phone, but constantly failed. I have never observed a latching so powerful and yet so simple. It was a necessary

evil. And hence that’s when I understood- there is no cure, and the worse is yet to come. I wrote this book to “save” humanity from this disease by opening their eyes to reality. Hope this book does that for you well. Have fun fighting or being the disease, Human Kind.
