The outstanding programming of The Links, Incorporated has five facets which include Services to Youth, The Arts, National Trends and Services, International Trends and Services and Health and Human Services. The goal of The Arts facet is to increase and expand art activity throughout black communities. An Afternoon of Literary Excellence is an opportunity to lift up the literary arts through a platform to spotlight local and regional authors. The purpose is to spark the interest of new and avid readers, by providing a space where authors and literary artists can share their stories and talents with the local community.
As a community committed to helping our children master reading proficiency, we want to teach them to read early on because much of their education comes from reading textbooks and other forms of media. The ability to read opens countless doors of exploration and learning. It is a skill that, once learned, is continually used and exercised into adulthood. Reading is one of the best ways to gain a general knowledge of almost anything. Reading requires conscious thought and effort on the part of the reader. This can lead to a natural tendency to think and observe, as well as promoting a better understanding of how the world works. Reading can also boost imagination and creativity in both children and adults. It allows the reader to explore new worlds, people and experiences. Today’s event will lead to other literary opportunities and directions. A few minutes of reading and writing can replenish mental strength and help a reader to face life with renewed spirits.
