FROM THE

GENERAL MANAGER Dear Bookcliff Members, As I am getting settled into my new role as your General Manager, I am very excited about all of the positive things that this club has going on. First of all, I feel very fortunate to have been able to meet so many of you already and look forward to getting to know all of you that I have not yet had the opportunity to meet. I have been very impressed with the wonderful board and committees that are assembled here. The amount people that volunteer their time and expertise to make BCC the best it can be is a testament to the membership here. It has already been a pleasure to work alongside these committees in getting up to speed in all areas of the club and allocating our budgeted 2023 CAPEX to projects such as ordering some new amenities for the golf course, ordering the remaining materials to complete the fence replacement around the maintenance facility and some upcoming upgrades to the dining room and bar. In addition, I am very pleased with the overall current staff that we have in place. When visiting the club last year it was easy to notice that we have some great people in place to take care of our members which was one of the things that drew me here. It would be easy to recognize so many of our staff for their contributions to the club and what they bring every day to the team. At the heart of every great team is a great leader. With the being said, we are very excited to announce the promotion of Dustin Benton. Dustin has done a fantastic job as our Food & Beverage Director and will be promoted to Director of Club Operations effective April 1, 2023. Dustin will still be the front face of the F&B Operations but will also be the lead in coordinating indoor and outdoor activities such as Athletics, Swimming Operations, and Sport Court Activities. With Dustin’s history of coaching and mentoring in the Valley, we know he will do an amazing job in his new position. Please congratulate Dustin when you see him! Unfortunately, sometimes great staff members move on to other opportunities for different reasons. We will surely miss Andy Nikkari as our Golf Course Superintendent and wish Andy the very best in his new venture. With the departure of Andy, we have put our noses to the grindstone to search for the best fit possible to fill this extremely important position. After an intense selection process of nearly a dozen very qualified candidates, we have selected Kyle Fick who will be joining us on April 5th. Kyle has a B.S. in Environmental Horticulture from the University of Minnesota and was previously the Superintendent at Bully Pulpit Colf Course in Medora, North Dakota which is annually a top 5 golf course in North Dakota and has been mentioned in multiple magazines on their top 100 lists. With the golf season upon us, we are fortunate to return most of the course maintenance staff from last season and are pleased that Kyle will be stepping into a team with many years of experience to help him hit the ground running when he arrives. The entire team here at the club is looking forward to the upcoming season and we can’t wait to see you all here. Thank you for your continued support!

CORE CONNECTIONS

Many people equate the core with their abdominal muscles. Your “core” is much more than that.

The true core of the body is the spine. Core muscles are defined as all of the muscles that support the spine. This includes muscles in your back, side, pelvis, hips and buttocks. These muscles are essential for movement and affect your everyday life in dozens of ways, large and small. Think of your core muscles as a sturdy central link connecting your upper and lower body. Forces that propel movement either originate in your core or transfer through your core on the way from one part of the body to another. Much like the trunk of a young tree, core muscles need to be strong, yet flexible. Weak, inflexible, or unbalanced core muscles can impair how well the rest of the body moves and undermine the ease and power of the motions that are part of your everyday life. No matter where the movement starts, it transfers upward or downward to adjoining links of the chain. If there is a weak link in the kinetic chain of movement, such as a weak hip or back muscle, it can undercut the strength of the movement and may start a chain of misalignments in the joints and limbs that may set up you up for injuries over time.

Christen M. Coburn, RYT-200

Group Fitness Coordinator

A healthy core workout works all of your core muscles. The term “abs” refers to one specific abdominal muscle known as the rectus abdominis. The set of abdominal muscles includes the internal oblique, external oblique and transversus abdominis. These muscles should be worked along with all of the back, hip, buttock and pelvic muscles. A strong core also enhances balance and stability. Therefore, it can help prevent falls and injuries during sports or other activities. A strong, healthy core underpins a healthy physique and, consequently, almost everything you do. It is also the secret to sidestepping a lot of debilitating back pain. Core work is for everyone, no matter what your age or fitness level. Here at BCC, we offer several core classes each week. These classes currently meet at 9:00AM on Mondays and Fridays. You may also consult one of our qualified fitness professionals to assist you in developing a personal plan to suit your needs.

IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN! Just like that we are back into golf season. The golf staff is very excited about all the things to come in 2023! We wanted to make you aware of a few things as we start the season. Until we get water back on the course sometime this month, we have instituted the 90-degree rule. Under this rule, carts are allowed on the fairway, but they must maintain a 90-degree angle from the cart path. You must take the cart path to a spot that is even with your ball, make a right angle turn and drive straight toward the ball. This rule is in effect on all holes, except for Par 3’s which will be cart path only. Click here to view a video if you need further clarification. We appreciate your patience and thank you for following the cart rules. I think you will see a tremendous improvement in early season course conditions in comparison to last year. April Golf Events • MGA Opening Day • Saturday, April 1st • LGA Opening Day • Tuesday, April 4th • Callaway Fitting Day • Friday, April 7th • LGA Tee-Off Brunch & Golf After • Satuday, April 15th • MGA 2-Man Match Play • Saturday & Sunday, April 22nd & 23rd • Course Closed for Aeration • Monday & Tuesday, April 24th & 25th More companies are being scheduled for fitting days and we will let everyone know once those dates are finalized.
