FILOSOFIA Somos un grupo de diseño interdisciplinario enfocado a producir conceptos integrales de diseño ambiental, conectando Arquitectura de Paisaje, Arquitectura y Diseño Urbano en un contexto espacial, estético y social. Nuestra filosofía está fundamentada en el diseño ambiental ya sea rural o urbano que debe ser transformado a través de un proceso creativo, en balance con la naturaleza y observando cuidadosamente la cultura local, el clima y el entorno; involucrando la participación del cliente o del usuario final Los proyectos son elaborados de una manera multidisciplinaria basados, dependiendo de las características, en la asesoría de especialistas en arte, ciencias sociales, medio ambiente, economía, finanzas, ecología, ecología, ingeniería civil y de sistemas. Nuestra meta es alcanzar soluciones creativas y contemporáneas a problemas de diseño cotidianos, ya sean nuevos o viejos. Estas soluciones deben de ser realizables, eficientes y estéticas en conjunto con la conservación y el mejoramiento del medio ambiente.

PHILOSOPHY We are an interdisciplinary design group geared to produce integrated concepts of environmental design, connecting landscape architecture, architecture and urban design in spatial, aesthetic and social context. Our philosophy is based on the conviction that urban and rural design must be transformed by a creative process, in balance with nature, and carefully looking to the local culture, climate and surroundings; involving the participation of the client or the user. Projects are set up in an interdisciplinary form based, depending on its characteristics, with the advise of specialist in art, social sciences, economics, environment, finances, ecology, civil and system engineering. Our goal is to achieve imaginative and contemporary solutions to old , new or every day design problems. These solution have to be feasible, efficient, and aesthetic, with conservation and improvement of the environment.

GRAN PARQUE ECOLÓGICO DE ZACATECAS Constituye una importante reserva ecológica e histórica, capaz de preservar especies endémicas y mostrar a sus visitantes la importancia del ecosistema, las condiciones y características del terreno, así como las vistas y al mismo tiempo desarrollar actividades deportivas y de aventura para los amantes de la naturaleza.  

ZACATECAS ECOLOGICAL PARK It is an important ecological and historical reserve, able to preserve endemic species and show visitors the importance of ecosystem conditions and terrain features and views while developing sports and adventure for nature lovers.

PARQUE METROPOLITANO ORIENTE El Gobierno Municipal de León ha creado un plan de desarrollo urbano al oriente de la ciudad, que consta de un cinturón verde conformado por diferentes parques unidos por un sistema vial de ciclopistas, zonas de recreación, deportivas y culturales y preservación de zonas naturales de gran importancia.  

METROPOLITAN EAST PARK The Municipal Government of León has created a plan of urban development to the east of the city, consisting of a green belt composed of different parks connected by a road system of bicycle paths, playgrounds, sports and cultural activities and preservation of natural areas of great importance.

RESIDENCIA EN MALINALCO Malinalco es un pueblito situado en un espléndido valle subtropical del Estado de México. En el se localiza este hermosa residencia que fue edificada en un terreno con una casa existente y un terreno adyacente que suman casi 7000 m2. Se le pidió a nuestro despacho diseñar la casa de huéspedes, además de un jardín con varios ambientes de vegetación tropical el cual incluye un lago que recolecta el agua y la utiliza para riego, terrazas y una cancha de tenis.

RESIDENCE IN MALINALCO Malinalco is a village situated in a splendid subtropical valley of Mexico State. In this beautiful residence that was built on land with an existing house and adjacent land totaling nearly 7000 m2 is located. He asked our firm to design the guest house, and a garden with various tropical vegetation environments which includes a lake collects water and used for irrigation, terraces and a tennis court.

JARDÍN NATURA DEL PARQUE BICENTENARO El Parque Bicentenario es el resultado dela conversión de un área industrial en desuso al norte de la ciudad de México, una refinería que cerró en 1988, como proceso del relocalización de plantas y empresas contaminantes. Por medio de un acurdo el gobierno federal dona al estado 55 hectáreas sometidas a un proceso de remediación y limpieza para desarrollar construcción de un parque totalmente nuevo.

NATURA GARDEN AT THE BICENTENNIAL PARK The Bicentennial Park came out for the conversion of a disused industrial area in the north of Mexico City, a refinery was shut down in 1998 as part of Mexico´s closing an relocations of polluting factories and companies program. The federal government which donate 55 hectares of the States submitted of the process of remediation an the cleaning for the construction of a park.

JARDÍN NATURA DEL PARQUE BICENTENARO El Jardín Natura se encuentra dentro del Parque Bicentenario en la ciudad de México. Este se desarrolla como una serie de jardines botánicos que representan los nueve biomas más significativos de México. Cuatro de ellos son áreas abiertas, tres son invernaderos con bio-climas internos, retención de agua de lluvia y sistema de vapor de agua para su propio riego y por último un orquidiario creado dentro de una cisterna ahora adaptada con rampas flotantes que recorren el largo total del espacio para su recorrido.

NATURA GARDEN AT THE BICENTENNIAL PARK The Natura Garden is located within the Parque Bicentenario in Mexico City. This develops as a series of botanical gardens representing the nine most significant biomes Mexico. Four are open areas, three have green house building with bio-climates, rainwater retention system and steam for its own irrigation and finally created an orchid in a floating tank now fitted with ramps that run the length total space for a visit. PARQUE ECO-ARQUEOLÓGICO COPALITA Proyecto paisajístico y arquitectónico de un parque reserva natural y cultural, resguardando y acentuando las características naturales del sitio en estrecha relación y equilibrio entre la naturaleza y la cultura que existe en los asentamientos arqueológicos y prehispánicos del área.

COPALITA ECO-ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK Architectural and landscape project for a cultural park and natural reserve, that preserves and enhances the natural features of the site. It also maintains the balanced relationships between nature and culture which are so present in the pre-hispanic and archaeological settlements of the area.

PARQUE ECO-ARQUEOLÓGICO COPALITA MUSEO DE SITIO El recorrido del parque se realiza a través de un eje central y dos secuenciales al norte y al sur que se encuentran conectados entre sí por medio de senderos y plazas que comunican a los diferentes miradores. La segunda fase incluye una zona de acceso principal y una plaza interior que cuenta con estacionamiento y comercios. Además sirve también como vestíbulo para el Centro de Atención a Visitantes que alberga al Museo de Sitio.

COPALITA ECO-ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK SITE MUSEUM The park is organized through a central path and two sequenced routes to the north and south. These three elements are connected among themselves through paths and plazas linked to various viewing platforms and to the Jungle Interpretative Center. The second phase includes an access area, an interior plaza with parking, restaurants and shops, which also functions as a lobby for the Visitor Center within the Site Museum. PARQUE METROPOLITANO LAGUNA DE CHAPULCO Parque de carácter educativo y didáctico con énfasis en el medio ambiente local. Lleva a cabo la rehabilitación de una vaso existente para controlar descargas de tormentas y avenidas así como regular y controlar el riesgo por inundaciones. Pretende crear un espacio ecológico con diversos ecosis- temas como humedales y cuerpos de agua para atraer avifauna y fauna acuática . Provee espacios recreativos y familiares.

METROPOLITAN PARK OF CHAPULCO This is a cultural and Ecological Park which is on the surroundings of a reservoir that avoids flooding due to the dam that helps to regulate the water in the city of Puebla.

PROBIOMED es una empresa mexicana dedicada a la investigación y fabricación de productos biomédicos. Localizado en Tenancingo, Estado de México y ha creado un campus de alta tecnología biomédica, cuyo primer componente es su propia planta, ampliada y modernizada mediante un proceso planeado. Nuestro despacho en conjunto con Colectivo MX, desarrolló el proyecto arquitectónico, urbanístico y paisajístico de la planta, los laboratorios, las oficinas y un amplio comedor para empleados y ejecutivos, además de la planificación del campus, en donde se alojarán empresas similares o extensiones afines a las de la empresa.

PROBIOMED is a Mexican company dedicated to the research and manufacture of biomedical products. Located in Tenancingo, State of Mexico and has created a high-tech biomedical campus, whose first component is its own plant, expanded and modernized through a planned process. Our office in conjunction with Collective MX, developed the architectural, urban and landscape design of the plant, laboratories, offices and a large dining room for employees and executives, in addition to planning campus, where similar companies or related extensions will be staying the company. PARQUE BICENTENARIO DURANGO El nuevo parque urbano, ubicado junto al parque Guadiana-Sahuatoba será un elemento de integra- ción de las colonias del norte y sur-poniente de la Ciudad de Durango. Será un espacio abierto para la recreación, el deporte, la educación y la cultura, utilizando elementos de sustentabilidad como el aprovechamiento de recursos y el tratamiento y reciclaje de aguas residuales.

DURANGO BICENTENNIAL PARK The new park, located near the GuadianaSahuatoba Park, will be an integrating element for the City of Durango. It will be an open area for recreation, sports, education and culture, that will use sustainability elements like the use of resources and treatment and recycling of wastewater.

LA ESPERANZA El Plan Maestro contempla el reciclaje postindustrial de espacios públicos de descanso y recreación, rodeados de jardines, cuerpos de agua, cultura, arte, talleres, plazas abiertas y zona deportiva, contenidos entre las murallas de la que se consolidó en su tiempo como la industria jabonera más importante de la laguna.

LA ESPERANZA The Master Plan contemplates the postindustrial recycling of public spaces for leisure and recreation, surrounded by gardens, water bodies, art, workshops, plazas and sports areas, contained within the wall of what in its time was the largest soap industry of the lagoon region.

ZUMPANGO CIUDAD BICENTENARIO GDU fue invitado por Geópolis para generar el Plan Maestro para una nueva ciudad, la cual formará parte del programa de Ciudades Bicentenario promovido por el Estado de México. El proyecto se encuentra ubicado en las cercanías de la Laguna de Zumpango al norte de la zona metropolitana de la Ciudad de Mexico; Esta ciudad se planteó con una capacidad alrededor de 800,000 habitantes. Como parte del proyecto, se realizó el Diseño del Centro Urbano, núcleo principal de servicios y equipamiento de la Ciudad. En esta zona se desarrollaron los proyectos urbano-paisajísticos específicos de los principales espacios públicos del desarrollo, incluyendo el Parque Urbano Central, la Plaza Cívica y la primera etapa del parque lineal del Paseo Zumpango.

ZUMPANGO BICENTENNIAL CITY

GDU was invited by Geópolis to generate the Master Plan for a new city, which will be a major part of the Bicentennial Cities Program promoted by the State of Mexico. The development’s location is close to the Zumpango Lagoon, north of Mexico City and was designed for a population of about 800, 000 inhabitants. As part of the project, the Design of the Urban Center was also developed, defining it as the main core of services and infrastructure for the Bicentennial City. In this zone, GDU developed the specific urban and landscaping projects for the main public spaces including the Central Park of the City, the Civic Plaza, and the first stage of the Linear Park of the Zumpango Boulevard

La arquitectura de paisaje del conjunto incluye plazas, cuerpos de agua, jardines, estacionamientos, edificio de acceso, cafetería y pérgola. El proyecto pone especial énfasis en el manejo, reinyección de aguas pluviales al acuífero subterráneo y reciclaje del agua.

TECNOPARQUE AREA I Corporate Campus in an old industrial site. The landscape architecture includes plazas, water features, gardens, parking lots, access building, cafeteria and pergola. In this project special emphasis is devoted to the reinjection of rain w a t e r t o t h e u n d e r g r o u n d a q u i f e r, management, recycle and re-use of water.

PARQUE LOS ITZÍCUAROS Desarrollo de un plan maestro para un parque metropolitano, ecológico, público, recreativo, productivo y cultural. El proyecto incluye varios cuerpos de agua diseñados para diversos usos: el primero para el tratamiento de aguas negras, el segundo es un lago orientado a la atracción de aves migratorias, el tercero a la pesca y el remo, el cuarto es un lago re- creativo con pequeños botes y kayaks y por último, el quinto contará con esculturas acuáticas.

LOS ITZICUAROS PARK The project is the master plan for a metropolitan, ecological, public, recreational, productive and cultural park. This project includes several water bodies designed for different uses: the first one is for the treatment of black waters, the second is a lagoon oriented to attract migratory birds, the third will provide fishing and rowing, the fourth one is a recreational lake for small boats and kayaks and the fifth one is a visual lake with aquatic sculptures that function as aerating devices. REHABILITACIÓN DEL BOSQUE DE CHAPULTEPEC ESPEJO DE AGUA A través de este Espejo de Agua se logra la conexión entre dos de los museos más importantes de la Ciudad de México: El Museo Nacional de Antropología y el Museo Tamayo. El proyecto forma parte del Plan Integral de Rehabilitación del Bosque de Chapultepec 2003-2007.

REHABILITATION CHAPULTEPEC PARK FOUNTAIN PROMENADE Fountain Promenade is a connection between the Museum of Anthropology and the Tamayo Museum at Chapultepec Park, two of the most important museums in the city. This project is a section of the Chapultepec Park´s Integral Rehabilitation Plan comprising from 2003 to 2007.

REHABILITACIÓN DEL BOSQUE DE CHAPULTEPEC JARDÍN BOTÁNICO El Jardín Botánico de la Ciudad de México (JBCM) es un centro de exposición de plantas vivas, en donde se tiene planeado conservar plantas en peligro de extinción, difundir una cultura ecológica y botánica entre la población de la Ciudad de México y sus visitantes, así como mostrar la biodiversidad del país. Este se encuentra en la primera sección del Bosque de Chapultepec.

REHABILITATION CHAPULTEPEC PARK BOTANICAL GARDEN The Botanical Garden of Mexico City is an exhibit center for living plants that aims to preserve and reproduce endangered species, as well as to widen the botanical and environmental awareness among the people of Mexico City and its visitors, and to showcase the country’s biodiversity. It is located in Chapultepec Park´s first section.

PUNTA ISLITA Desarrollo Eco-turístico y Residencial de muy baja densidad. La mayor parte está destinada a la conservación ecológica. Cuenta con distintos tipos de vivienda y servicios turísticos, incluyendo un hotel boutique con casino, un club hípico y un centro de educación y cultura ambiental.

PUNTA ISLITA Low density Eco-touristic and Residential Development. Most of the area is destined to the ecological conservation. It has different types of homes and touristic services, including a boutique hotel with a casino, an equestrian club and a cultural and recreational center.

PLAYA ENCANTADA El Desarrollo “Playa Encantada” está dividido en 7 barrios, cada uno de los cuales tendrá una plaza-parque que le dará carácter e identidad. Cada espacio fue conceptualizado para ofrecer distintas sensaciones y usos. Las plazas se estructuran a lo largo de una espina dorsal que genera un recorrido por todo el desarrollo, reforzando además el carácter peatonal. Además cuenta con un campo de golf de 9 hoyos Par 3, una pista de correr, fuentes, lagos artificiales, arte urbano y jardines de plantas endémicas.

PLAYA ENCANTADA Development "Playa Encantada" is divided into seven districts, each of which will have a plaza-park that will give character and identity. Each space was conceptualized to provide different sensations and uses. The squares are structured along a spine that creates a sketch of the development, and strengthening the pedestrian nature. It also has a golf course 9 hole Par 3, a jogging track, fountains, artificial lakes, urban art and gardens of endemic plants. CANAL DE LA CORTADURA Proyecto urbano y paisajístico para reactivar la zona central de Tampico. Creación de un parque lineal recreativo y turístico que comunique, con un sistema fluvial, el río Pánuco con la Laguna del Carpintero. Incluye diseño de puentes peatonales y vehiculares, así como el canal navegable.

The project is a linear park for recreation and tourism that links the Panuco River with the Carpintero lagoon. It includes the design of bridges for vehicular and pedestrian purposes as well as a navigable canal.

The project is a residential development with an associated golf club and water sports on the edge of the Requena Reservoir. GDU was in charge of the master plan, the urban design, and the architectural and landscape design. GDU developed the preliminary design of the 18-hole golf course, the access plaza, showroom offices, the club house, a tennis club, and a commercial area.

VALLE PONIENTE En Valle Poniente se desarrolló el Plan Maestro (Diseño Urbano y Arquitectura de Paisaje) de un de- sarrollo residencial mixto enclavado en la cordillera del Cañón de la Huasteca en donde se aprovechan las cañadas en un sistema de parques y jardines. El desarrollo se divide en claustros habitacionales, cada uno con pequeños parques.

VALLE PONIENTE Valle Poniente is a mixed residential development adapted to the hills of the beautiful Huasteca Canyon. The ecological system of cañadas is integrated to a system of parks and gardens. The development is sub-divided in residential clusters, each with small parks.

PARQUE UNION POINT Union Point Park forma parte de un extenso plan para crear un sistema de parques y andadores sobre un antiguo astillero industrial, permitiendo un nuevo acceso al mar en la ciudad de Oakland. El proyecto fue hecho en conjunto con Patillo & Garret Associates. Se crean corredores visuales y conexiones físicas con el agua y al mismo tiempo un sentido de lugar al interior del parque, incluyendo un espacio con juegos para niños, área para picnic, una plaza para actividades infantiles y familiares y estacionamiento.

UNION POINT PARK The urban park is part of a Master Plan of the City of Oakland to recover the San Francisco Bay Waterfront. This Park is used by a wide diversity of multiethnic families and workers of the area. The site was formerly an industrial shipyard.

SIGLUM TOWER Located in Insurgentes Ave, one of the most important streets in Mexico City, the building has become one of the architectural landmarks in the southern part of the city. The elliptical plan provides views to the surrounding landscape and interesting perspectives in the direction of the avenue. The inside sculpture was designed by Brad Howe.

El Cedazo es una presa cuya historia se remonta a mediados del Siglo XX, cuando fue abandonada y contaminada. El trabajo de Schjetnan fue el de restaurar la presa y construir un nuevo centro focal para equipar la zona con actividades culturales, deportivas y de recreación familiar, así como la creación de una planta de tratamiento de aguas negras para el riego de áreas verdes.

EL CEDAZO RECREATIONAL PARK The dam at El Cedazo (the filter) dates back to the 16th century, when it was abandoned and the basin was polluted by sewage and choked with silt and trash. Schjetnan’s work involved the restoration of both the dam and the lake and the construction of a new center with sport areas and cultural and recreative activities. He also created a sewage treatment plant used for irrigation in the park.

PARQUE HOSTÓRICO CULHUACAN Se trata de uno de los pocos monumentos históricos, ubicado en el sureste de la Ciudad de México. Entre las características arquitectónicas de estilo renacentista destacan los muros de basalto volcánico o recinto, que es un material propio de la zona. Los claustros son de gran sobriedad; en su interior prevalecen excelentes frescos de estilo barroco plateresco que reflejan la maestría de los antiguos tlacuilos o pintores culhuacanos.

CULHUACAN HISTORICAL PARK It is one of the few landmarks, located in the southeast of Mexico City. Among the Renaissance architectural features include volcanic basalt walls or enclosure, which is its own zone material. The cloisters are of great sobriety; within prevailing Baroque excellent fresh plateresco reflecting mastery of ancient Culhuacans tlacuilos or painters.

CLUB DE GOLF MALINALCO El club se ubica en un valle rodeado por montañas, es por eso que se proyectó el paisaje urbano de las plazas de acceso, calles y avenidas, jardines, lagos y cascadas, así como estacionamiento, club de tenis, la forestación y jardinería del campo de golf de forma que se integran al paisaje. Las piedras de la zona se utilizaron para construir las murallas siguiendo con la tradición del paisaje, característico de la región. En las calles se usaron adoquines pequeños para una superficie sólida, mientras que las piedras más grandes marcan los bordes.

MALINALCO GOLF CLUB The project includes: urban landscape, plazas, streets, gardens and lakes, parking and a tennis club. The club lies in a lush agricultural valley surrounded by high cliffs, one of which boasts a pre-Columbian temple and fortress complex. Native stone was used extensively at the club for walls and street surfaces; indigenous trees and other plants well adapted to the subtropical highlands were planted along the roads. XOCHIMILCO ECOLOGICAL PARK An instance of environmental restoration on a vast scale, the project also addresses challenges of urbanization in one of the most populous cities in the developing world, providing both open space for recreation and productive land for economic development. Xochimilco, meaning “the place where flowers are grown,” is a fragment of a pre-Conquest, even pre-Aztec landscape of artificial garden islands created in the lake that once filled a large area in Mexico City.

TEZOZOMOC PARK Located in a dense populated working-class district of Mexico City. At the heart of the park, there is a lagoon that recreates the contours of the extensive system of lakes that once filled the Valley of Mexico; it is surrounded by low hills echoing the topography of the region. It is built on a reclaimed industrial site; the mounds were made of earth from subway excavations, and recycled water - treated sewage from a nearby housing project - is used for the lake and for irrigation.

CASA MALINALCO Casa de descanso construida sobre una huerta an- tigua con vegetación exuberante. Es el resultado de una síntesis entre las constantes del clima, la arquitectura, el paisaje y la cultura local. Las aguas grises de la casa son recicladas mediante un filtro de arena, y uttilizadas para regar las áreas verdes que rodean la casa.

CASA MALINALCO Weekend house, built on an old orchard (coffee, bananas, mango and citrus trees), in a climate that includes rainy and dry seasons, the landscape is designed to minimize both runoff and irrigation. Cobbled pavers allow percolation of storm water; runoff passes through the orchard to an absorption well near the house. Grey water from the house is recycled into the orchard through a sand filter.

MARIO SCHJETNAN GARDUÑO Arquitecto y Paisajista mexicano que nació en la Ciudad de México en 1945. Egresó de la Facultad de Arquitectura de la UNAM en 1968 y en 1970 terminó la Maestría en Arquitectura de Paisaje con énfasis en Diseño Urbano de la Universidad de California, en Berkeley. En 1984 obtuvo la Beca Loeb de la Universidad de Harvard, para realizar estudios ambientales avanzados. Durante el 2010 el Colegio de Arquitectos de la Ciudad de México y la Sociedad de Arquitectos Mexicanos le otorgaron por su trayectoria el premio Maria Ignacia Rodríguez de Velasco en Proyectos de Desarrollo Urbano y Arquitectura de Paisaje y en el 2012 tuvo el honor de ser nombrado miembro de número de la Academia de las Artes de México. El despacho Grupo de Diseño Urbano, GDU, fue fundado en 1977 junto con el Arq. José Luis Pérez Maldonado, desarrollando principalmente proyectos de diversas tipologías y escalas de Arquitectura de Paisaje, Diseño Urbano y Arquitectura. A lo largo de estos años se ha caracterizado por marcar tendencia en la mayoría de los proyectos realizados con respecto a estas áreas en México, Estados Unidos y algunos otros paises y ha sido distinguido con premios y reconocimientos nacionales e internacionales. Mario Schjetnan también ha desarrollado una labor académica importante: Talleres de Diseño de Paisaje en la Universidad de Harvard, Cambridge, Massachusetts los años de 1994, 1998 y 2005; La Cátedra Beatrix Farrand con un taller de Paisaje Urbano en la Universidad de California en Berkeley; Fue director de la Maestría en Arquitectura de Paisaje en la Universidad de Arizona, Texas de 1999 a 2001 y a su regreso fue distinguido con la Cátedra Extraordinaria Federico Mariscal en la UNAM, en la ciudad de México. En 2006 obtuvo la Cátedra Rose Carter de la Universidad de Austin, Texas y en el 2007 impartió la Cátedra Talbott en la Universidad de Virginia en Charlottesville, Virginia. Ofrece conferencias en universidades de EUA, España, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Puerto Rico, Australia, China, Nueva Zelanda, por nombrara algunos paises. La obra de GDU ha sido publicada en los libros: “Mario Schjetnan/TEN LANDSCAPES”, editorial Rockport; “Arquitectura, Ciudad y Naturaleza” publicado por el INAH; “Lansdscape, Architecture and Urbanism”, editorial Spacemaker Press y la más reciente publicación “Mario Schjetnan: Entorno Urbano y Paisaje” editorial Arquine, con textos introductorios de Roberto Segre y Jimena Martignoni, También han sido publicados y en diversos medios nacionales e internacionales.

MARIO SCHJETNAN Born in Mexico City, Mario obtained a degree in Architecture from the National University of Mexico (UNAM) in 1968. He proceeded to obtain a Master Degree in Landscape Architecture with an emphasis in urban design at the University of California, Berkeley in 1970. In 1984 he was selected as a Loeb Fellowship at the Graduate School of Design, Harvard University. In 1977, Mario started his own firm, Grupo de Diseño Urbano /GDU, along with José Luis Pérez, having executed a wide range of projects, including diverse typologies and scales in architecture, urban design and landscape architecture. GDU and Mario Schjetnan have been distinguished with national and international awards and recognitions in architecture, urban design and landscape architecture.The most notable awards Mario Schjetnan has also devoted his life to teaching. He has given numerous workshops and studios in several universities including: Harvard University in 1994, 1998 and 2005. In 2001 the University of California, Berkeley invited Mario to give the Beatrix Farrand Chair in Landscape Architecture. Mario was the director of the School of Landscape Architecture at the University of Arizona, Tucson from 1999 to 2001. He was distinguished with the Federico Mariscal Chair in Architecture from UNAM in 2001. He has been a lecturer at Universities in the USA, Spain, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Puerto Rico, Australia, and China. The work of GDU has been published in the books: Mario Schjetnan / TEN LANDSCAPES from Rockport Publishers; Arquitectura, Ciudad y Naturaleza published by CONACULTA-INAH, in conjunction with a major exhibit of his work. Another publication “Landscape, Architecture and Urbanism” from Spacemaker Press. His more recent publication is “Mario Schjetnan: Urban Environment and Landscape” from Arquine which has text introduction from Roberto Segre and Jimena Martignoni. Schjetnan´s work has been published in numerous reviews, magazines and newspapers in Mexico and abroad. In 2006, he received the Cathedra Rose Carter from the University of Austin Texas and in 2007, the Cathedra Talbott from the University of Virginia.

GERENTE URBANISMO Y PLANEACIÓN / PLANNING AND URBAN MANAGER MANUEL PENICHE OSORIO Nació en la Ciudad de México en 1952. Estudió Arquitectura en la Universidad Iberoamericana en 1974 y posteriormente cursó la Maestría de Arquitectura en la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México ampliando sus conocimientos con diversos diplomados y seminarios en las áreas como: Teoría de la Arquitectura, Planeación, Diseño Urbano, Arquitectura de Paisaje, Ecología, Forestación Urbana, Arquitectura Bioclimática y Administración de Proyectos. Ha formado parte de diversos despachos y firmas privados, así como de instituciones públicas. Entre 1974 y 1975 formó parte del programa de investigación y Vivienda de Interés Social en el INFONAVIT. Ocupó el puesto de Jefe de la Oficina de Evaluación Social de Diseño del mismo instituto de 1976 a 1978. A partir de 1979 forma parte de Grupo de Diseño Urbano, GDU, donde se encarga del área de Planeación y Diseño Urbano, participado en el desarrollo de proyectos de Arquitectura, Arquitectura de Paisaje y Planeación ambiental. En cuanto a actividades académicas, ha impartido cursos a nivel licenciatura, diplomados y maestrías. Fue profesor de la UIA, impartiendo diversas asignaturas, incluyendo talleres y cursos de areas como: Teoría de la Arquitectura, Proyectos Urbanos y Diseño Ambiental. Además colaboró como profesor invitado y conferencista en varias universidades del país y como ponente en distintos foros y congresos Nacionales e Internacionales. Born in Mexico City in 1952. He has worked in several firms and government agencies. From 1974 to 1975 he participated in research programs about Social Interest Housing at INFONAVIT. He served as Chief of the Of fice of Design & Social Evaluation of the same Institute from 1976 to 1978. Since 1979 he has been a collaborator with Grupo de Diseño Urbano, where he has participated in the development of many projects, having a broad professional experience in the areas of Architecture, Urban & Environmental Planning, Urban Design, and Landscape Architecture. As far as academic activities, he has taught courses at undergraduate, graduate and master levels. He has been a professor at UIA, collaborating in several subjects including Project Workshops and Theory of Architecture courses, Urban Projects and Environmental Design. In addition, he has participated and collaborated as a guest professor and lecturer in various universities, and as a sponsor in several national and international forums and congresses.

MARCO ARTURO RODRÍGUEZ Nació en la Ciudad de México en 1962. Realizó sus estudios de Arquitectura en la ENEP Acatlán de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Se integró a Grupo de Diseño Urbano, GDU, en 1986 como colaborador, participando conjuntamente en desarrollos profesionales en las áreas de Arquitectura, Arquitectura del Paisaje, Diseño Urbano y Planeación Ambiental. Ahora se encarga de la Coordinación del Proyectos, entre los que destacan: La Rehabilitación del Bosque de Chapultepec, Ciudad de México, Parque Metropolitano de Chapulco, el la ciudad de Puelbla, Pue., Ojo de Agua del Obispo, en Durago, Dgo. Gran Parque Ecológico Zacatecas en la ciudad de Zacatecas entre otros.

Born in Mexico City in 1962, Marco completed his architectural studies at the National University of Mexico, campus ENEP Acatlan. ANA SCHJETNAN ROMERO Nació en la Ciudad de México en 1978. Estudió Derecho en la Universidad Iberoamericana y posteriormente amplió su sus conocimientos en el área de Relaciones Públicas con un diplomado en esta especialidad en la Universidad de Nueva York. Trabajó de 1998 hasta el 2002 en diferentes despachos de abogados como Moreno y Asociados, De Ovando Martínez del Campo y Backer & McKenzie, así como en la Asamblea Legislativa del Distrito Federal apoyando a diputados del Partido Acción Nacional, PAN, durante un año. En Grupo de Diseño Urbano, GDU, dirigío el área de Relaciones Públicas del año 2003 al 2010 y a partir de ese año dempeña el cargo de Gerente General. En paralelo, funda Arka Eventos en 2005 y organiza congresos de Arquitectura, Urbanismo y Arquitectura de Paisaje tales como: Garden Conservancy (2005), Urban Age (2006), Congreso Nacional de Arquitectura de Paisaje en México (2007), entre otros.
