Relishing meals in the bus, we reached the Tourist Village at Chandpata, Shivpuri in the evening. All relaxed for a while after a long and tiresome journey, followed by a bonfire. Students and staff danced on different numbers, charging up for a cold night. The day ended with a delicious dinner and ice cream, coupled with a promise to receive Maggi in the breakfast, following morning. A walk till Bhadaiya Kund, a small waterfall marked the beginning of next day. After a hearty breakfast, the group began its journey back to the school. All in all, it was a great way to end the year. Enjoying each moment, everyone came back to continue the celebration in the school, with New Year Eve, a befitting welcome to the year 2023. TRIP TO December 30, 2022 The will and curiosity to catch sight of a cheetah was at its peak when a group of 37 students and 4 teacher escorts namely Dr. Shalini Agrawal, Ms. Suman Choudhary, Ms. Sobha Peri and Ms. Vaishali embarked on a journey to Kuno National Park on December 30, 2022. We travelled the distance via bus and on foot, highly optimistic to see one cheetah at least but alas, we were greeted by deer, antelopes and cows. As they say, ‘Something is better than nothing.’, so we believe. Identifying different trees and plants, on the way, with Principal Ma'am, students explored the area. THE MUN PAGE 19 In February 2021, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and other military leaders staged a coup. The move came after the military’s proxy party, the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), suffered a major blow in the 2020 elections. The junta —officially called the State Administration Council—detained and charged de facto civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi with corruption and other crimes. It placed lawmakers from her party, the National League for Democracy (NLD), and other parties, as well as many activists, under house arrest. Massive protests erupted nationwide in the weeks after the coup. Tens of thousands of people, including health workers, bankers, and teachers, joined what was originally a peaceful civil disobedience movement, refusing to go to work until the elected government returned to power. Eventually, ousted NLD lawmakers, protest leaders, and activists from several minority groups established a parallel government known as the National Unity Government (NUG). It aims to bring together the disparate groups opposed to the junta, foster greater unity among ethnic groups, create an agenda for a post-junta Myanmar, and cultivate support from foreign governments. In September 2021, the NUG declared war on the junta and formed an armed division known as the People’s Defence Force. The Myanmar Coup D'état The military’s brutal crackdown on dissent and widespread abuses in the conflict have drawn condemnation from the United Nations, foreign governments, and rights organizations. In the initial aftermath of the coup, military forces shot live ammunition at civilian protesters and into people’s homes. By late 2021, the military was destroying entire villages believed to support the opposition, massacring both civilians and opposition fighters. At least 1,500 people have been killed by the military, which is likely an undercount, according to Thailandbased nonprofit Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (Burma). The junta has arrested more than eight thousand people, including journalists, medical workers, and NLD politicians. SCINDIA KANYA VIDYALAYA DECEMBER 2022

This conflict is closely linked to the ethnic cleansing of Rohingya Muslims, which was also conducted by the military. Rights groups have called on world leaders to take tough action, like imposing a global arms embargo, banning aviation fuel sales and blocking revenue from Myanmar’s joint operations with foreign companies. This week, sources have reported that Aung San Suu Kyi’s trial was wrapped up, and her sentence is a total of 33 years, based on 5 counts of corruption arising from her owning a helicopter that has caused “loss to the state”. Journalists were not allowed at the court hearings, and the attorney of the accused has been banned from interacting with the media. The war against the Junta wages on, though it seems to have come to a stalemate with the media no longer shedding light on the issue. T H E M U N P A G E SCINDIA KANYA VIDYALAYA DECEMBER 2022 20

A CHRISTMAS CAROL BINGE JUST SCINDIA KANYA VIDYALAYA DECEMBER 2022 Ebenezer Scrooge is an extremely wealthy, hardened, miserly, old man.
