Objectification theory informs Maggie’s perception of her body as a commodity, one that can perform sufficiently for any given scenario. The objectification Theory states that sexual objectification penetrates women’s and girls’ self-esteem, causing them “to treat themselves as objects” to evaluate. Shannon Maggie communicates her self-objectification through her portraiture. The project aims to convey the internal dispute she participates in constructing performances of her identity.
