13th January 2023 Dear Parents and Carers, I hope you have a good week. Assemblies this week have been around extra-curricular activities and the importance of engaging with them in particularly for year 11, giving them things to write about on their CV as well as encouraging them to have some time to do things they enjoy in this hectic year. We have lots on offer before school, at lunchtime and after school. Please encourage your children to attend. Next week is an important week for year 11. On Monday, Mr Beezy, a motivational speaker will be here to speak to year 10 and 11, and follow up with workshops for year 11. Selected students will attend a live assembly with the Army on Tuesday, and on Wednesday year 11 will take part in the Next Step Booster programme with Thurrock Council where pupils will do English and Maths assessments and have mini mock interviews; all these activities will help prepare them for the interviews they have ahead for colleges, sixth form and apprenticeships. On Thursday, we have a theatre company coming in to perform A Christmas Carol with year 10 and 11, which will bring the text to life. Thursday is also parents evening for year 10 – we hope to see as many parents as possible there and you will have the opportunity to meet Mrs Taylor, the new Head of Year 10. Staffing wise, we have a new pastoral manager starting on Monday, we will be welcoming Ms Judd to the team who will be working initially with year 9. We are starting to get some good quality applications now, which is exciting, so watch this space. We interviewed a new cover supervisor today, which means that when we do have cover, we will less agency staff and there will be more consistency. Finally, do come and see Matilda on January 26 and 27 - we can’t wait! Have a lovely weekend Mrs S Feeney Principal

They will initially be based in the canteen and we will have a small room available for them to use should students need a 1:1 chat.

Commencing Monday 15 January 2023 we will continue to drive our high expectations with regards to uniform by focusing on the wearing of jewellery in school. We believe that following the uniform code correctly is a sign of students positive attitudes towards learning and the school. When students are in breach of our school uniform code teacher time is wasted as they try to correct it.

Students may wear one single plain gold or plain silver stud (no crystal stones ) in the lobe of each ear and a wristwatch. Please can you ensure that your child removes jewellery before they leave for school in the morning. Students wearing inappropriate jewellery will be asked to remove it by the school staff. It will be placed in an envelope until parents are able to collect it - we will not return it to the student only you. If your child refuses to remove their jewellery then we may need to contact you in order to come to the school and remove it for us. If this is not possible then students will be removed to the Inclusion Zone. Naturally, we expect all students to follow our rules and expectations and we greatly appreciate the support we receive from parents in maintaining this.
