Hobbies for teens in Chad
Teens in Chad like to play football, which is soccer in America. Teens also like to play hopscotch and jump rope. Teens in Chad like to dance and listen to music. Rap music is very popular in Chad. The teens in Chad like to do many of the things that teens in America enjoy.
Coming of age traditions
In Africa, coming of age traditions mean that the child is becoming an adult. Coming of age “Traditionally the coming of traditions age traditions are broken into three parts. Separation from the community, period of transition, and back into society.” During the separation the children are removed completely from the village. Then in the transition time, the children learn the skills needed to become adults in their villages. Sometimes they have to complete tasks and take tests to show they are learning and ready. Finally, during the time back to society, the children are introduced as adults of the village.

Kisra is one of the most common foods found in Chad. It is a pancake like flatbread made from sorghum flour. La Bouillie is served for breakfast and it is similar to porridge. Chad relies on fish for protein and many of the traditional foods vary a lot between North Chad and South Chad. The brief rule of the French also influenced the food of Chad. Jarret De Boeuf is known by the French name and it is a beef stew. These are just an example of some of the common foods of Chad.
Customary Attire
Customary Attire Chad has more than 180 ethnic groups that make the country up, so dress can be different. Muslim women are usually covered in head to toe robes. In Southern Chad, women may wear wraps called rabott or pagne around the upper and lower halves. Married women wear an apron. Men wear long robes called jalabiyas with white turban-like headwear called tagiya. In the south, they wear tunic outfits called complets. Women will wear veils and men will have a dagger tucked into their sleeve.
Religion
Religion Majority of the people of Chad are Sunni Muslims, about three fifths. The Muslim population is found in the north and east part of the country. Animists are the next most common religion. This religion is popular in the southern region and the mountainous region of Guera. Christian are the next most popular religion. This includes Protestants and Roman Catholics. Missionary work is aimed toward the animists and not the Muslim populations.
School Life
The educational system is patterned after France and the school is taught in French. All children between the ages of 6-12 should go to school, but many do not. Primary education lasts for six years and then there is secondary education for seven years. Students can also do vocational or secondary vocational education which lasts for six years. Chad does have a college, the University of Chad. According to the website only 70% of students were enrolled in primary school and only 12% were enrolled in secondary school. About half of the adult population of Chad can’t read. The school system does not look like schools in the US.

Popular Music/Artists/Actors The film and acting isn’t super developed in Chad yet. Anais Monory is an actress from Chad and she starred in two movies. Her husband is a director. Aicha Yelena is an actress from Chad and starred in a film. Matibeye Genevieve is a singer that sings about love, equality, forgiveness, Chadian child rights, and peace. Her songs are in three languages, French, Arabic, and ngambaye. Mounira Mitchala is a singer, songwriter, African actress, and composer. The artists broke barriers and became famous.
Social Life
Social Life The people of Chad are poor and many do not have a higher education. The family unit is very important and clans are also very important. Where you belong is very important to the structure. People of Chad stay in these groups. Social life would depend on your clan and what your family does for a living. The social life for teens in Chad is very different from the social life here in the US. There are many opportunities through school for social times for teens in the US, it is not that way in Chad.
