Club Insure & Prostate Cancer UK Our partnership, and what we’ve achieved so far. Since the start of 2020, we launched our partnership with Prostate Cancer UK, pledging to donate £75,000, but with ambitions to raise much more. Following a four year battle with prostate cancer, one of our closest friends and colleagues lost his life to the disease in 2020. He worked tirelessly from his diagnosis to raise awareness and funds for the charity, and this is legacy that we have committed to continue in his memory. The goal behind this is to make sure to make sure more men know the risk factors, know when to see their GP and how to receive treatment. Whilst funding invaluable research and the support Prostate Cancer UK deliver to people affected by the disease every day. So we wanted to take a moment to update you on our progress so far, and talk about the exciting things on the horizon we’d love you to be involved in.

The story of our partnership We partnered with Prostate Cancer UK to help raise much needed funds and awareness of the disease. More than 120 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every single day, and over 11,500 men die each year. One of our own Club Insure team, Lloyd, was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in 2016. Lloyd was just 43 when he was diagnosed, told he had between just five and 10 years left to live. After years of treatment, including hormone therapies and chemotherapy, Lloyd sadly lost his battle in September 2020, but his positivity and bravery continues to inspire us every day. Just a few months after being diagnosed, Lloyd took part in his first fundraising event and became an active Prostate Cancer UK ambassador for the rest of his life – a role we proudly took on in his memory to ensure a long legacy for this great man.

What we’re striving for We’ve pledged to raise £75,000 through donating £5.00 for every new or renewed policy as part of a three-year partnership with the charity. But we hope to donate even more through fundraising activity, and encouraging clubs like yours to take part. But even more importantly, a large part of our mission will be raising awareness of prostate cancer and showcasing the important work Prostate Cancer UK does. We come face to face with Prostate Cancer UK’s target demographic every day. How many of your club’s members know the key symptoms of prostate cancer or how to get checked? Our mission is to make sure more men know the risk factors and know when to see their GP and get treatment before it’s too late. We’ve crunched the figures and we reckon we can reach 1.75 million people over three years. But we can’t do that without your help.

We’ve pledged to raise £75,000 through donating £5.00 for every new or renewed policy as part of a three-year partnership with the charity.

What we’ve achieved so far We’re so proud of all our staff, clients and partners, who have so far helped us donate over £72,000 to Prostate Cancer UK since the beginning of our partnership. This puts us £22,000 ahead of schedule, thanks to some fantastic efforts from our team! In September 2021, seven keen and amateur cyclists from Club Insure took to the saddle and cycled 173 from Coast to Coast, raising over £15,000 in just one weekend! Our CEO said:

“Losing Lloyd was devastating to all of us. We couldn’t sit idly by and let countless more men go through what he did. That’s why I wanted to do something together with the fantastic team I have around me to give back even more to the charity.” Justin Romero-Trigo There are lots more exciting fundraising events on the horizon, and we’re looking forward to sharing more about them soon.

A lasting memory of Lloyd In January 2022, we were really proud to open a new Club Insure office, bearing our late friend & colleague’s name. Our Head Office expanded into a new building, and houses many of the people who worked so closely alongside Lloyd, and we wanted to create a fitting tribute to him. On top of Lloyd’s fundraising legacy with Prostate Cancer UK that we’re continuing, we wanted to create this lasting memorial to ensure his memory is never forgotten.

How you can get involved First and foremost, we’d love to help you raise awareness for prostate cancer and its impact on men. Alongside Prostate Cancer UK, we can provide you with collateral and information that can be used in your club to spread the word. If we manage to encourage more men to be aware, and feel confident speaking to their GP about any concerns, together we will save more lives so no more men have to go through what our friend Lloyd did. Small contributions make a big difference. It doesn’t take grand gestures and epic cycle rides to make a real difference. If every one of our club partners was able to fundraise just £50, we’d be able to collectively donate over £200,000 to Prostate Cancer UK. Truly life-changing money.

The difference it can make From the smallest to the grandest donation, the money you raise makes a tangible difference to men living with prostate cancer.

£10 Could pay for ten microscope slides for scientists researching the effects of new treatments.

£25 Could fund one of our Specialist Nurses for one hour to support men affected by prostate cancer and their families.

£50 Could fund 2.5 hours of research which could be the moment we make a breakthrough in understanding prostate cancer.

£1,000 Could pay for equipment that is used to isolate and analyse DNA and proteins, so scientists can perform many experiments to understand the molecular workings of prostate cancer.

£5,000 Could pay for 200 men to receive a post-treatment recovery pack following surgery, hormone treatment or radiotherapy.

£20,000 Could cover the cost of developing a new test in the lab, and trying it on clinical samples of prostate cancer, so that it may one day form part of a new diagnostic test to help spot prostate cancer early.

£50,000 Could pay for a researcher for an entire year, bringing us closer to stopping prostate cancer being a killer.

£150,000 Could pay for one year of a Research Innovation Award. This is our call for bold, innovative research that has the real potential to impact the way prostate cancer is diagnosed and treated.
