THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD – SOLEMNTY The light of Christ shines on and through the faithful. The Magi were determined to follow the star that led them to Christ. Are we as determined as the Magi to follow the way that leads us to Christ? Are we prepared to accept hardships and the unknown? Are we committed to the journey to follow Christ? Isaiah 60:1-6. The prophet cheers the exiles who returned from Babylon with a vision of a restored city. The prophecy is fulfilled in Christ and in the new Israel: the Church. Isaiah announces that the radiant light of the Lord will shine. Darkness covers the earth and thick clouds cover the people, but upon them the Lord will shine. Ephesians 3:2-3.5-6. God invites Jews and Gentiles to share on an equal footing the salvation brought by Christ. Matthew 2:1-12. Three Gentiles came from a far county to pay homage to the Christ-child, while the Jewish leaders rejected him. The Magi followed the light of a star, which led them to the Messiah.

EPIFANIA DEL SEÑOR – SOLEMNIDAD La luz de Cristo brilla en y a través de los fieles. Los Reyes Magos estaban decididos a seguir la estrella que los llevó a Cristo. ¿Estamos también nosotros decididos como los Reyes Magos a seguir el camino que nos conduce a Cristo? ¿Estamos preparados para aceptar las dificultades y lo desconocido? ¿Estamos comprometidos con el camino a seguir a Cristo? Isaías 60: 1-6. Los vítores del profeta a los exiliados que regresaron de Babilonia con la visión de restaurar la ciudad. La profecía se cumple en Cristo y en el nuevo Israel: la Iglesia. FROM MY HEART (not from my Desk) Many, many thanks to all who have contributed to the beauty, the joy and the inspiration of our Christmas celebrations. I give special thanks to all who participated in our Posadas, and to the ministries and groups who led the Posadas each night before Christmas. I include those who provided refreshments as well as those who provided music and who led the prayers. I also thank all who made our liturgical celebrations so beautiful: the musicians, the lectors, the extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist, the servers, the ministers of hospitality, the sacristans, and everyone who participated in our Masses. Together we offered joyful worship to our Newborn Savior! Thanks also to those who contributed to the decoration of our church. It is beautiful, and it draws our hearts to prayer, to worship, to wonder and awe. As I offer thanks with all my heart to all of you, I invite you to join me in offering thanks to God, who has brought us here to Saint Joseph Parish. May we continue to serve Him faithfully in this special little part of his Church, and may we bring the Good News of the Newborn Savior to all whom we meet!
