“THE FAMILY: WHERE DISCIPLESHIP BEGINS” – Diocesan Ministries Celebration Saturday, October 10, Mater Dei High School----1202 W. Edinger Avenue, Santa Ana – 7 AM to 4:30 PM Focus of this day-long event is the call to discipleship. Bishop Vann is inviting everyone to learn how to become better disciples and to make disciples of others for the Kingdom of God. “Go therefore to all nations!” Various workshops are held throughout the day with a variety of presenters. Keynote speaker is Rev. John Hurley, CSP, D.Min. Fr. Hurley is former Exec. Director for the US Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Secretariat for Evangelization, the National Pastoral Life Center in NYC, and the Dept. of Evangelization for the Archdiocese of Baltimore. He is instrumental in creating a new paradigm for the sake of the mission entrusted to the Church. Tema: “Jesús proclamaba el Evangelio del Reino, curando las dolencias del pueblo” Adultos: ¿Cómo es que yo escucho y me abro a la voluntad de Dios para ser sanado? Adolescentes y Niños: ¿Cómo debo escuchar a Dios?

MENSAJE DE LA SEMANA: En este domingo, se nos ofrece una nueva oportunidad a los creyentes en Jesús, ya que escuchando su Palabra de Vida, se nos está invitando a algo nuevo, incluso inaudito; una invitación cargada de esperanza y de vida. Toda la liturgia de este domingo está anunciando esta novedad. La “palabra mágica” puede ser el “ÁBRETE” del evangelio, expresado de forma diversa en las demás lecturas. Es todo un símbolo para el hombre de hoy y para este nuestro mundo, tan encerrado en sí mismo. Y es que resulta que la SOLEDAD se va convirtiendo en el pan nuestro de cada día. Los hombres construyen puentes y autopistas para comunicarse con más rapidez y, al mismo tiempo, el contacto humano, la comunicación cálida, cordial y sincera se hace más difícil: los hombres se sienten extraños unos para otros; viven más aislados, cerrados a Dios y a los demás. Por eso, cuántos hombres y mujeres necesitan escuchar las palabras de Jesús al sordomudo: “ábrete”. También a nosotros nos hace una invitación a abrirnos. Cuando actuamos egoístamente, nos alejamos de los demás, nos separamos de la vida y nos encerramos en nosotros mismos: éste es el camino de MUERTE, de SOLEDAD. Dios nos quiere ABIERTOS, SOLIDARIOS.

Tal parece que cada día los medios de comunicación tienen más malas noticias que anunciar: guerras, enfermedades, terrorismo, sequía, disturbios sociales, y mucho más. Algunas personas han dejado de usar los radios despertadores prefiriendo ser despertados por la sacudida de la alarma chillona y no de las malas noticias matutinas. ¿Qué más necesitamos para darnos cuenta de que somos criaturas limitadas, y aunque hay mucho que podemos hacer para mejorar nuestro mundo, en última instancia hay mucho que simplemente no está a nuestro alcance? Para esto, nuestro amoroso Dios nos dice: “¡Ánimo! No teman.” Debemos hacer todo lo que esté a nuestro alcance para hacer de nuestro mundo un lugar mejor y más seguro, pero también debemos reconocer nuestros límites y que nuestra seguridad absoluta está en manos de Dios. Nos puede servir de consuelo la realización de que Dios nos ama sin medida, y nos dará toda la ayuda necesaria para hacer de nuestro mundo un lugar acogedor y seguro para todos. Copyright © J. S. TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE

El Rito del Bautismo contiene varios elementos simbólicos que merecen nuestra atención. El agua, por ejemplo, es un elemento de doble significado. Es símbolo de vida y pureza. Además, la misma agua que es símbolo de vida, también puede traer la muerte. En el Rito del Bautismo el agua da muerte a nuestro viejo ser para hacernos renacer a la vida abundante que nos promete el Señor. Una vez renacidos se nos recuerda que nos hemos revestido de Cristo (las vestiduras blancas), que Dios nos ha iluminado (la vela) y nos ha ungido (seleccionado) con el crisma, óleo perfumado con que se consagraban los reyes, profetas y sacerdotes en tiempos bíblicos. Todos estos símbolos son bellos, pero a mi parecer, el más bello es el de Efata, que en griego significa ábrete. El ministro bendice los oídos del bautizado para que se abran a la Palabra de Dios y le bendice también la boca para que proclame no sólo alabanzas a Dios, sino para que sea un pregonero de su palabra. El cristiano debe ser una persona atenta a la voz de Dios para poder servirlo y proclamarlo al prójimo.
