Flawed Pearl Name of the collection: Flawed Pearl Season: Spring – Summer 2022 Inspiration 92 million tones of textile waste is produced every year, this means an equivalent of a rubbish truck full of clothes ends up in landfill sites every second. 6 billion jeans are produced a year and 30% of those never get worn. Furthermore the production of denim can be a wasteful process regarding water and energy, the raw materials and manufacturing process. Denim is made from natural sustainable cotton, which means it can be re-worn and refashioned. One of the ways to be more sustainable is to redesign it and reuse it. So this collection is made of reused and redesigned garment of denim that are part of the fashion collection. The denim used for the collection is second hand, found in the thrift stores and vintage shops.The redesigned and reused clothes are decorated,embroidered and painted in gothic theme as a inspiration for the collection. When it comes to fabric painting, Baroque paintings are used as motives with their meanings and dark colors, the red tones. For embroidery different meaningful quotes were embroidered in the clothing pieces, so it has also a inspirational part. In this collection there is no right or wrong and it isn’t about a certain way of dressing or trends, it is to be different to have a message and try to imply at the audience. Client: Suitable for all that feel fit to wear the collection. This collection has an ethical and activist approach that aims to unite culture, race and gender through a separate genre of culture (neither sub nor counter-culture). It is about accepting diversity, promoting multiculturalism and asserting their positive values through messages that are printed or embroidered on the garments. The collection is made out of reused denim and by that sustainable. Baroque theme is evident through various art work, hand painted or embroidered, as it is one of the dominant inspirations for the collection. Fabrics: Fabrics consist of second hand or old garments of denim, cotton, faux leather, silk. The garments are furthermore hand painted in Baroque themes and embroidered typography.
