EARLY LIFE ❖ Born on August 30,1871,in Nelson, New Zealand. ❖ Fourth child of James Rutherford and nee Martha Thompson. ❖He was fourth child and second son in a family of seven sons and five daughters.

At the Cavendish laboratory,Cambridge University Rutherford worked and studied under JJ Thomson

McGill university in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Rutherford discovered the concept of Radioactive half–life,the radioactive element Radon and differentiated and named alpha and beta radiations.
