Preface No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it. – Albert Einstein

INNOVATIVE Thinking is a genre of thinking that looks at problem (solving) from a fresh point of view, beyond the conventional, tried and tested. Its alternate pathways find great relevance in today’s time, as they provide Earth’s degenerating Eco-system much needed space to recoup and revitalize. Innovative Thinking has power to heal, resolve stalemate, optimize resources and bring CHANGE. Yet, it continues to remain an enigma for many doers. What is point of view? How does point of view affect thinking? How does a person change his/her existing point of view? A Walk through the Dot seeks answers to these questions. ***

POINT OF VIEW is a position, from where a person observes the outside world. It determines whether the person has expansive or blocked view. Expansive view gives an individual a wider awareness (consciousness) of the outside world. This story explores how a person can widen his/her consciousness through change in point of view.

Here: Dot represents finite beginnings & ends while, Walk represents an individual’s widening consciousness beyond a finite beginning and a finite end, through growing awareness of infinite Circle. Widening consciousness: Reduces one’s ignorance Reduces fear of unknown Increases relevance of thoughts Increases balance Increases options and maneuverability Increases empathy Also known as ‘individual awakening’; widening consciousness aids Innovative Thinking. ***

Every person has a UNIQUE POINT OF VIEW. This gives him/her optimal time and space to view the outside world, clearly and lucidly. It allows for recognition. Re = Reflection Cognition = Process of acquiring knowledge

Preface

This is our world (reality) as children. Then, We are unafraid We are naturally curious We are explorers The world looks ‘familiar’; we feel one with it However, with start of formal education, a learner invariably loses his/her vantage point of viewing the outside world. Instead, he/she begins to view it from a more UNIFORM POINT OF VIEW, dictated by social norms. Uniform point of view as the name suggests, is a common point of view shared by a large number of learners. Learning inclined rather than being learnerlearning aligned, it facilitates transference of information within a stipulated period. Uniform point of view positions learners closer to object (outside world) than their unique points of view would otherwise permit. Moving closer to an object or situation makes a person lose his/her rationale, seen here akin to the timeless Buddhist parable of five blind men & an elephant. It goes like: A long time ago in a far-off land, five blind men were crossing a forest when they chance upon an elephant. The first one touched the elephant’s leg and declared it a pillar; the second felt the tail and insisted it is a rope; the third felt the trunk and thought it branch of a tree; the fourth touched the ear and insisted that to be a giant hand fan while the fifth felt the flank and said it sure was a wall.

Partial view generates illusions. Shift from one’s vantage point of view makes learning appear unfamiliar and cryptic to child learner. Attempt to go back to one’s unique point of view is unfailingly reprimanded! “Don’t be a child!” “Don’t waste time; you are so slow & lazy; only a dreamer!” Imagine the trepidation of the child! The child’s imaginative re-cognition now takes a dent and weakens. He/she begins to accept the routine. This is ROTE learning. Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up. Pablo Picasso. The following graphic, illustrates very simply what happens when we move closer to the Truth.

Here: A = one’s Unique point of view B = Uniform point of view As a learner moves from A > B, his/her expansive view starts narrowing.

Preface

To re-open one’s view, the learner must seek a new point of view. Learners however find this very difficult. This is because the view between X & Y though restrictive is known to them while beyond X & Y is vastly unknown. It simply over-whelms learner with fears and phobias. Fear of unknown entraps a person within shrunken, conformed reality. It builds a wall (barrier) many a learner will sense impossible to transcend. 

A Walk through the Dot is a story of transformationwhere a learner transcends hitherto insurmountable barriers (fear of unknown) by seeking a new point of view. It expands his/her reality. A simple transformative tool called PLAY aids this. PLAY provides the young learner a guide, which is comforting and wise. It knows where and how to position the learner optimally, so his/her view widens. This guide is none other than one’s own INTUITION also called INNER VOICE. It makes learner’s journey of transformation, a great fun. PLAY helps the learner trust his/her own intuition once again (be a child again). It uses intuition and imagination to heal perception. I believe in intuition and inspiration. Imagination is more important than knowledge; for knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution. It is strictly speaking, a real factor in scientific research. – Albert Einstein
