FOUNDATION

SEVEN RIVERS CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

PHILOSOPHICAL PILLARS What does SRCS believe about a child’s learning potential? We believe God has a plan and a purpose for every child. We do not determine a child’s probable path based on a perception of aptitude, but rather through pressing, training, and discipleship, give all children a broad vision for their future. What do we believe about the process of learning? We believe children learn best when they first acquire a strong foundation of knowledge in grammar school, then in middle school begin to organize and analyze that knowledge, and ultimately in high school articulate complex ideas and effectively express opinions in writing and speech. What is the teacher’s role in this process of learning? Instruction should be teacher-led, directing a child’s mind to knowledge, truth, beauty, and wisdom. Why do we offer a liberal arts education at SRCS? A liberal arts education imparts a broad foundation of knowledge, providing instruction for the mind, body, and soul. Although it is a conduit to higher education and career training, it is valuable as an end unto itself. Simply stated, we see learning as an act of worship. Who benefits from an SRCS education? Whether students intend to pursue higher education, master a trade, serve in the military, or enter the work force, we believe all will benefit from an SRCS education. Students willing to work hard — to be pressed, trained, and discipled — will likely succeed. What is the end of an SRCS education? The vision of SRCS is to produce graduates who are passionate about God and His church and who are equipped to thrive in higher education, create healthy families, and bring the joy and peace of the gospel to a broken world. 2

3

OUR MISSION Seven Rivers Christian School exists in partnership with families to shape the hearts and minds of children with a distinctly biblical program of academic rigor, artistic beauty, and athletic competition. 4

PARENT PARTNERSHIP

A foundation for success begins when parents and the school share a common educational philosophy and then partner together to achieve a common goal. Partnerships flourish in a culture of respect, communication, goodwill, and civility.

5

A DISTINCTLY BIBLICAL PROGRAM

6

All truth comes from God. Adding a Bible verse to a lesson or saying a prayer in class is not what makes instruction biblical. Instruction is biblical simply because the principles and facts presented reveal truth, and God delights in having the truths of His world explored. All of our instruction originates from a biblical worldview. We view history as the story of man, science as the story of creation, mathematics as the language of creation, language arts as the study of human expression, and the Bible as the literal word of God defining our relationships to one another and our relationship to God. In the preschool, we begin by teaching the foundational truth that God made the world and everything in it. In the grammar school, we teach students the story of the gospel of Christ, as well as a memory program consisting of scripture and the catechism. In the upper school, we focus on providing students with an overview of scripture, exploring worldview, discussing theology, studying world religions, learning apologetics, and finally during their senior year, understanding how to create healthy families. 7

ACADEMIC RIGOR

We begin with the end in mind. Research shows that an early indicator of long-term student success is the ability to read on grade level upon finishing the 3rd grade. The most sobering statistic in education is that 75% of students not reading on grade level by the end of 3rd grade will never read on grade level. Beginning with our preschool, SRCS is passionate about developing great readers. It is the most essential part of a strong educational foundation. 8

To prepare students for high school, we set goals that exiting 8th graders should read at a college level, be able to write a perfect paragraph, and be highly proficient at computations with integers, fractions, and decimals. To prepare high school students for college, we offer the opportunity to take Honors level classes taught by highly qualified instructors. We offer nine Honors and Advanced Placement classes, as well as six on-campus Dual Enrollment classes for college credit.

9

ATHLETIC COMPETITION

10

SRCS fields 34 teams playing 13 different sports and 73% of our upper school students participate in at least one of those sports. Our athletic complex, Warrior Park, includes a football field, baseball field, softball field, cross country track, and a field house with a state-ofthe-art weight room. Future plans include tennis courts, a pool, and a gymnasium. At Seven Rivers, we want our students to play with passion, not anger; graciousness, not arrogance; and for the team, not for themselves. For most of our students, this will be their one chance to play competitive sports. It should be a rich, challenging, and maturing experience. It should change for the better the kind of men and women they become. 11

ARTISTIC BEAUTY The church has historically played a leading role in the arts. At Seven Rivers, we continue that tradition by offering opportunities in music, art, and drama at every level. We teach students to recognize beauty and to create beauty. In our preschool, movement and music are integrated daily so that our youngest learners begin to develop an aesthetic sense. Grammar school students have weekly art and music classes. In art class, they learn about the lives, techniques, and famous works of master artists and then mimic the technique of those artists. Grammar music classes follow the Core Knowledge Sequence of music theory and songs, culminating in two annual performances. 12

Upper school students may continue with art instruction from middle school all the way through high school classes at the Advanced Placement level. SRCS has 6th grade, middle school, high school, and pep bands with students earning seats every year in the Nature Coast Honor Band. The Seven Rivers Players, our drama team, annually stages two major productions. These productions are highly successful, with every performance to date selling out.

13

FACULTY CULTURE Seven Rivers Christian School has robust curricula and ever-expanding facilities, but it is the faculty who make the greatest use of these treasures. Seven Rivers faculty teach and lead with passion. We love what we teach and whom we teach. Our teachers see healthy relationships with students as foundational to having meaningful influence. SRCS has a faculty culture of mutual respect, consideration, and collaboration. We count it all joy to work alongside one another and teach in such a grace-filled school because we know that God has called us here for a specific purpose: to bring a Christ-centered educational experience to our students. Seven Rivers Christian School is accredited through the National Council for Private School Accreditation, Christian Schools of Florida, and AdvancEd. One-third of our faculty hold advanced degrees, and all faculty members earn 120 professional development hours every five years.

14

STUDENT CULTURE Student life at Seven Rivers Christian School can be described in one word...family. At SRCS, it’s cool to enjoy school, to enjoy teachers, and to enjoy each other. Small classes mean that students learn to be part of a community where people genuinely care for one another. Students enjoy competing on the athletic fields, encouraging one another in the classroom, and worshipping together at Chapel. Plays, band concerts, dances, pep rallies, Spirit Week, school sports events, field trips, mission trips — even the occasional lunchtime Cheetos war — build the laughter, friendships, and memories that will last long beyond graduation.

15

CORE VALUES FOR THE SRCS STUDENT

16

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. - 2 Corinthians 5:17 EXTEND GRACE. In response to His love, go and love others. PURSUE KNOWLEDGE YOUR WHOLE LIFE. Ask God to show you truth and wisdom. LIVE, FOLLOW, AND LEAD WITH HUMILITY. Be aware of your own brokenness. SERVE OTHERS FIRST. Always consider how you can help. DO HARD THINGS. Your character is formed in the midst of challenges. PERSEVERE AND DEVELOP GRIT. Failure is inevitable, so get back up, brush yourself off, and finish what you start. GUARD YOURSELF. Your body and soul have infinite value, so never compromise either. INVEST IN RELATIONSHIPS. Commit to family, marriage, community, the Church. SEEK ALWAYS TO ENCOURAGE ENCOURAGE. When in doubt, hold your tongue. DEFEND THE WEAK. Justice is worth fighting for. EMBRACE YOUR IDENTITY AS AN IMAGE-BEARER. Fulfill your unique roles as men and women. LIVE THE SIGNIFICANT LIFE FOR WHICH GOD DESIGNED YOU. Work with passion, learn with curiosity, share with abundance, and love extravagantly.

17

OUR VISION To produce graduates who are passionate about God and His church and who are equipped to thrive in higher education, create healthy families, and bring the joy and peace of the gospel to a broken world.

18

Where will our graduates be 20 years from now?

An education has eternal consequences. The instruction and care students receive at Seven Rivers Christian School will affect not only their collegiate opportunities and career paths, but also their families for generations to come. Our purpose is to mold men and women who care about both the “now” as well as the “not yet” — men and women who will make a positive impact in the world today and in the future. 19
