The Spanish Service for the Internationalization of Education (SEPIE) is the National Agency for the Erasmus+ program in the areas of Education (2014-2020) and the Lifelong Learning Program (2007-2013).
Alongside these functions, the SEPIE manages other national and international programs.

International Promotion of the Spanish University System through its Academic and Research Offer and its Internationalization System composed by 84 universities (232 University Campuses) Public Universities (50): They are created and financed by the State, and tuition costs for the degrees are regulated by the Autonomous Communities.
Private Universities (34): They are created and financed mostly by private companies. Their prices are decided by each university enrollment according to market criteria.

Over 500 millon people speak Spanish. Spanish is the second language in the world by number of speakers and the second language of international communication.
For demographic reasons, the percentage of the world population that speaks Spanish as their native language is increasing, while the proportion of Chinese and English speakers declines. The image of the Spanish language is associated with the dissemination of an international culture of quality.

In 2030, 7,5% of the world population will speak Spanish (a total of 535 millon), a figure that stands above Russian (2,2%), French (1,4%) and German (1,2%). Within three or four generations, the 10% of the world population will communicate in Spanish. In 2050 United States will be the first Spanish-speaking country in the world. Nearly 20 millon students study Spanish as a foreign .

1) QUALITY INDICATORS : The Spanish University System has a quality level certified by its presence in international rankings, as well as by the international accreditations granted to the universities for their quality in teaching.
▪ International rankings: Classifications by disciplines in Shanghai Ranking (ARWU), QS Ranking & Taiwan Ranking (2014)
▪ 30 Spanish universities in the top 200 worldwide (e.g. in Statistics or Pharmacy) ▪ 20 universities in the top 100 worldwide (e.g. in Mathematics or Agriculture) ▪ 6 universities in the top 50 worldwide (e.g. in Informatics or History)
▪ Spain is the 2nd country in the world and the 1st in Europe, with most young Rankings for universities under 50 years (2014)

Spanish University Programs are certified by international quality accreditation agencies like: Pegasus Network (for Aeronautics), ABE (for Building Engineering), IChemE (for Chemical Engineering), ABET (for Engineering & Technology), EUROinf (for Informatics), GAC (for Project Management), EAEVE (for Veterinary), etc.

2) TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION: Spain is an international reference in several fields of innovation, technology & knowledge transfer. For instance: 4th European country in renewable energies patent applications. 1st European country and 3rd in the world in agricultural biotechnology and the 5th country in biochemistry and molecular biology. 2nd European country and 9th in the world in automobile production; leading manufacturer of industrial vehicles and leader in the technologies associated with electric cars.
3) CULTURAL & LINGUISTIC RICHNESS: ▪ Spanish is the 2nd most spoken language in the world by number of native speakers, after Mandarin Chinese. Nowadays, Spanish is the official language of 21 countries in the world and it is growing in number of speakers in USA. ▪ Spain has a great cultural diversity. It is the country with the third-largest number of cultural sites included in the list of the UNESCO’s list with 42 World Heritage Cultural Sites and 11 Intangible Cultural Heritage Properties . In 2013, it received more than 60 million tourists.

4) INCREASE OF UNIVERSITY INTERNATIONALIZATION: Spanish universities are increasingly internationalized, in line with increased academic mobility worldwide.
According to OCDE (Education at a Glance, 2014) 40,689 international students studied in Spain in 2000, while in 2012, their number increased to a total of 97,825 students.
Moreover, it is the European country that receives more Erasmus students annually.
Since 1995 there has been a steady increase in the number of international students enrolled in Spanish universities: it has grown from 14,634 international students in 1995 to 89,300 in 2012. Besides, Spain is the European country that receives annually most ERASMUS students (40.202 in 2013) in Europe.

5) ADAPTATION OF SUS TO THE EUROPEAN HIGHER EDUCATION AREA (EHEA) Since 2010, the Spanish University System and its qualifications were fully adapted to the EHEA: ● Approval of legislation and verification of official qualifications in agreement to with EHEA. In the 5 areas of EHEA:
