Worn out Once there was a 7-year-old girl named Milly who was just like any other kid. She had lots of friends but she also had a brother named Charles. Charles was a sneaky and mischievous boy. One day, Milly was playing with her favorite teddy bear. He threw her teddy bear to their dog to play fetch and it was torn apart.

The Store One day, the whole family went out to buy some groceries. When Milly was walking home, she saw a teddy bear she adored. “Mom, can I have this teddy please?” “Honey, you’ve got a lot of toys at home already.” said Milly’s mother.

“But I really want it.” Milly exclaimed. “We can get it another day but right now we’re not able to buy it.” Milly’s mother said. “Oh alright,” Milly replied with a pouty expression.

A few days later, Milly saw Charles playing with another toy that Milly wanted. “Charles, how did you get that toy?” Milly asked in utter shock as she got closer to see the toy that Charles got.

“Mom bought it for me.” Charles replied in confusion. “Why are you asking me this?” Charles asked. “Because mom wouldn’t let me buy this teddy bear that I wanted.” Milly replied in disappointment.

She really thought that her mother didn’t care about her. Even though, her mother just wanted Milly to learn something. Milly went to her room with sadness. She was jealous of her brother getting a new toy. In her room, she played with her old toys.

Chores On that day, Milly went to ask her father. “Dad, why can Charles get a toy but I can’t?” Milly asked. “Because you didn’t do your chores yet.” “We have to do chores?” Milly asked. “Well no.” “But you do because you need to be more responsible.” Milly’s dad said.

Milly stomped away furiously thinking why she should be more responsible when she already is. “I am responsible, why shouldn’t I get the teddy bear?” Milly groaned. “And it wasn’t even my fault.” Milly continued.

Milly wanted to prove how she can be responsible, so she washed her dishes, threw her trash, and did her laundry. At the end of the day she was exhausted. “Dad!” “I’m done with all of my chores.” “Well done, kid.” Milly’s dad said. “But you still won’t get that bear.” Milly’s dad continued.

“Why dad?” “I already did my chores, I even did more than Charles.” Milly added. “Just NO Milly.” Milly’s dad replied. Milly went to her room crying. “What did I do wrong?” Milly asked herself while sobbing in her bed.

The next day, Charles got ready to school and took the bus. He sat next to Milly looking very sad. “Why do you look so sad?” Charles asked. “I'm not.” Milly said in an annoyed tone. “Are you sure?” Charles said.

“Yes Charles, now go away.” Milly answered. “Oh ok.” Charles said with a sad tone. Charles left with worry that she won’t play with him anymore.

In the evening after school, they got picked up by their mother. While they were in their car, they went past the same store of the teddy bear. “Mother, I really want the teddy bear, I’ll do anything.” Milly pleated. “Really?” Milly’s mother questioned. “Yes!” Milly answered.

“Well, would you do your chores?” Milly’s mother offered. “Dad already asked me that.” Milly said. For the next day, she forgot about the teddy bear and continued her day as usual.

During the week, she was spending most of her days with her friends and family. She was very happy and had lots of fun. She became more friendly and had more friends. She also spent more time with her brother. Milly and Charles became closer than ever.

Teddy bear For the next few weeks she went about her day as usual. Milly went grocery shopping with her mother again and saw the teddy bear. She ignored it because she knew she wouldn’t get it. “Milly, isn’t that the teddy bear you wanted?” Milly’s mother asked.

“Well, yes. But I don’t want it anymore.” Milly answered. Even though she wanted it. She learned that she couldn’t have anything she wanted.

“Well, if I buy it for you. Will you want it?” Milly’s mother asked. Milly jumped in excitement as she said, “Yes!” As Milly’s mother buys the teddy bear, Milly says, “Thank you for the teddy bear.” She was very happy with the teddy bear.

For the next few weeks, she was very happy. But then, she felt like something was missing. She realized that the teddy bear wasn’t the source of her happiness. She was happy because she was surrounded by loving family and friends.
