In 1937, Dolores Guío de Fonseca, grandmother of the present owner, asked a cobbler from Sogamoso to teach Gabriel, her eleven year old son, how to make shoes. He learnt all the traditional crafts of shoemaking, stitching manually, using awl, needle, thread and wax. By those days, shoes were a luxury item and only wealthy people could afford them, because they were imported from Europe. The majority of people wore a type of sandal.

COMPANY PROFILE

Transcurriendo el año 1937, la señora Dolores Guío de Fonseca, (abuela) del actual propietario, contrató a un zapatero de Sogamoso para que le enseñara el arte de la zapatería a su joven hijo de 11 años, Gabriel, aprendiendo éste con esmero la zapatería, emplantillando y punteando a mano, con lezna, aguja, hilaza y cera. Por aquella época el zapato era artículo de lujo, usándolo los que poseían capacidad y poder económico, ya que éstos los importaban de Europa y la mayoría de los pobladores usaban alpargatas.

Con la idea de fabricar zapatos. Montó un pequeño taller y lo fue equipando con maquinaria dentro de la cual contaba con una punteadora y una emplantilladora. Su hijo de 12 años, también de nombre Gabriel (el hoy gerente de la empresa), ayudaba en el taller a mojar con agua los labios de la plantilla, despertándosele en ese momento el gusto de fabricar el calzado por este sistema, teniendo en cuenta la solvencia técnica y versatilidad de este sistema de fabricación. La empresa “CALZADO ATLAS” se fundó en 1977 dedicándose en sus inicios, exclusivamente a vender a través de Licitaciones Públicas, al Gobierno: Nacional, Departamental y Distrital. Luego se empezaron a atender empresas privadas hasta 1986, año en que el socio Eliécer Garzón, debido a problemas de índole personal vendió su parte al socio Gabriel Fonseca Rodríguez, quien actualmente la dirige, habiendo logrado la adquisición de su actual sede de gran capacidad, que le permite elaborar el más fino calzado hecho en Sudamérica, reconocido mundialmente por su alta calidad y resistencia, dado al sistema Goodyear Welt que emplea.

CARACTERÍSTICAS: 1. Diseño y fabricación de calzado para hombre, clásico Tipo Inglés, con sistema de fabricación Goodyear Welt y bota de trabajo con especificaciones internacionales de seguridad. 2. Enumeración “punto Inglés” para medidas y tallas a fin de ajustar el producto a todo pie, ya que ésta tiene 4 (cuatro) milímetros de diferencia entre tallas, en cambio la medida “Francesa” enumera a razón de 6 (seis) milímetros por talla. 3. Esencialmente la empresa procura fabricar un calzado que dé comodidad y evite deformaciones o inconsistencias por la mala aplicación de las “Normas y Diseños”. Precisamente he aquí, donde está la calidad y efectividad de los productos.

SISTEMAS DE FABRICACIÓN: Para garantizar los productos se utilizan los sistemas Goodyear Welt, Mckay, Cement Shoe y el Three Stitchdown Shoe, con los equipos más completes que existen actualmente en el mundo.

Be manufacturing shoes in his own factory. He started a small workshop, slowly equipping it with machinery and started production. The factory “CALZADO ATLAS” was founded in 1977, initially dedicated exclusively to participate in public tenders for the National, Regional and District Government. Later on, Calzado Atlas started selling footwear to private companies. In 1986, Eliecer Garzón, the other partner in the business, sold his shares to Gabriel Fonseca Rodríguez, due to personal problems. Since then, Gabriel Fonseca Rodríguez has been the General Manager. The company obtained new facilities with much more space, for the headquarters offices and factory, where it produces the finest footwear in South America. This footwear is worldwide known for its high quality and durability, as a result of using the Goodyear Welt System.

PRODUCTION FEATURES 1. Design and production of men's Classical English Style footwear, Goodwyear welt production system, as well as production of work boots with international safety specifications. 2. “English-point-size” for measuring and sizes, so that the product will fit every foot. This standard has a difference between sizes of 4 (four) millimeters. The “French” standard instead, has a difference of six millimeters between each size. 3. The company's target is to deliver a comfortable product that avoids deformations or inconsistencies caused by wrong use of “Regulations and Design”. This is the point where quality and effectiveness of the products is established.

MANUFACTURING PROCESSES To guarantee its products, the factory uses the Goodyear Welt Shoe System, the McKay System, the Cement Shoe System and the Three Stitchdown Shoe System, with the most complete machinery, worldwide known.
