1ST LESSON:

BAKING MATERIALS AND ITS DEFINITION

Different Baking Materials Ovens - an enclosed compartment, as in a kitchen range, for cooking and heating food. Ovens have different types. - Convection Oven - Rotary Oven - Microwave Oven

Mixing Bowls - a bowl used for mixing ingredients. For example, mixing the dry and wet ingredients of a cake.

Electric Mixer - used for different baking procedures for beating, stirring, and blending. We use this because it is easier to mix ingredients using this than using a spatula.

Measuring Cup - a cup marked in graded amounts, used for measuring ingredients in cooking. For measuring wet ingredients like water & milk.

This type of measuring cup is for dry ingredients like flour & cornstarch.

Kitchen Shears = intended for cutting and trimming foods such as meats. Also used to slice rolls and delicate cakes.

Measuring Spoons - consist of a set of measuring spoons used to measure small quantities of ingredients. ( 1tbs., 1tsp., etc.)

Pastry Bag - a funnel shaped container of icing or whipped cream. Often shaped as a cone and has different kinds of tip.

Pastry Blender - has a handle and with wire which I used to cut fat or shortening in the preparation of pies, biscuits or doughnuts.

Pastry Brush - Also known as basting brush, is a cooking utensil used to spread butter, oil or glaze on food. may be used to sop up juices or drippings from under the pan and spread them on the surface of the meat to crisp the skin.

Cake Pans - a metal container that you bake a cake in. It comes with different sizes and shapes.
