Father John Dearhammer

October is kind of a crazy month for parishes but a good kind of crazy. Lots of stuff going on. First of all we had the parish pet blessing this weekend for all the Catholic dogs and cats. Always a lot of fun. “The Lord is my German Shepherd, there is nothing I shall want.” The Craft Bazaar is next weekend. I hope you can come and pick up hand-made knick-knacks for your home. The Craft Bazaar ladies make the crafts all year just to sell at this event. Please buy a ticket for the 50/50 raffle they are sponsoring. I hope you can attend Fr. George’s celebration of 65 years in priesthood – 15 more years than I have been alive. Amazing! That will take place on October 22 at the 5pm Mass, followed by a dinner. Please bring a dish to share. Thanks. Also, mark your calendars for the Baile de las Rosas on November 5 at the Bridges of Poplar Creek. Those who went last year had a great time and it was a great mix of people. Tickets will be available after the Craft Bazaar ends.

We are also counting the number of people that attend Masses in October. Every parish counts in October so we can get an idea of trends in numbers. It is always interesting to see if we have grown or diminished in our numbers. We have remained rather steady over the years between 1850 and 2000 people at Masses on Sunday. How about you bring a friend and drive those numbers up.

Songs for the 5 p.m., 8 a.m., & 10 a.m. Gathering Song: Rain Down

Communion Song: We Are Many Parts

Faithful and true is the word of our God. All of God’s works are so worthy of trust. God’s mercy falls on the just and the right; Full of God’s love is the earth.

God of all, we look to you, we would be your servants true, Let us be your love to all the world.

Rain down, rain down, rain down your love on your people. Rain down, rain down, rain down your love, God of life.

We who revere and find hope in our God Live in the kindness and joy of God’s wing. God will protect us from darkness and death; God will not leave us to starve.

Psalm Response: If today you hear the voice of God, if

today you hear God‘s own voice, harden not your heart, harden not your heart, harden not your heart today.” Sing out, oh people, with songs of gladness. Let us proclaim the rock of our salvation. Come, let us worship the God who made us, the one who guides and shepherds us with love. Harden not your hearts in the time of testing, When your ancestors tempted me in the wilderness. © 1991, Bob Hurd and Joe Bellamy. Published by OCP Publications, 5536 NE Hassalo, Portland, OR 97213. Presentation Song: We Walk By Faith

We walk by faith, and not by sight: No gracious words we hear Of him who spoke as none e’er spoke, but we believe him near. We may not touch his hands and side, nor follow where he trod; Yet in his promise we rejoice, and cry “My Lord and God!”

Help then, O Lord, our unbelief, and may our faith abound; To call on you when you are near, and seek where you are found. That when our life of faith is done in realms of clearer light We may behold you as you are in full and endless sight.

Creed on page 10

We are many parts, we are all one body, And the gifts we have we are given to share. May the Spirit of love make us one indeed; One, the love that we share, one, our hope in despair, One, the cross that we bear.

So my pain is pain for you, in your joy is my joy, too; All is brought together in the Lord.

All you seekers, great and small, seek the greatest gift of all; If you love, then you will know the Lord. Text: 1 Corinthians 12, 13: Marty Haugen, b. 1950 © 1980, 1986, GIA Publications

Closing Song: All the Ends of the Earth

All the ends of the earth, all you creatures of the sea, lift up your eyes to the wonders of the Lord. For the Lord of the earth, the Master of the sea, has come with justice for the world. Break into song at the deeds of the Lord, the wonders he has done in ev'ry age.

Heaven and earth shall rejoice in his might; ev'ry heart, ev'ry nation call him Lord.

Text: Psalm 98: Bob Dufford, SJ, b. 1943 Tune: Bob Dufford, SJ, b. 1943; acc. by Bob Dufford and Chris Morash, alt. © 1981, Robert J. Dufford, SJ, and New Dawn Music

Jesús, toma nuestra mano, enséñanos a amar.

We are called by grace!

Religious Education Classes have begun, and we have been blessed with a wonderful group of 6th grade students! Unfortunately, due to personal reasons, the scheduled catechist will not be available to teach this year. Therefore, there is an urgent need for a 6th grade English catechist - Saturday mornings 9:00 am – 11:00 am. Classes are not every Saturday, so it allows for a some flexibility. Please contact Rosi Viquez at the Religious Ed office immediately if you can help or if you need further information.

Altar Bread and Wine

If you would like to make a donation for the Bread and Wine in memory of a family member or friend, please stop by the Parish office during office hours. An acknowledgement of your memorial will appear in the Sunday Bulletin. The suggested donation is $50 dollars.

Ministry of Care is one of the oldest ministries in the church. The renewal of this ministry among the laity is one of the gifts of the Second Vatican Council. Ministers of Care visit and bring Eucharist to residents of nursing homes, the hospitalized and the homebound. At CHS, the Ministry of Care is a powerful witness to God’s presence. At this time we are recruiting new people for this Ministry. Training for new ministers will take place at St. James in Arlington Hts. on Saturday, October 8th and Saturday, October 15th.

Pick up a flyer with more details in the gathering space. Please contact Sister Marianne at 847‐882‐7580 or [email protected]

Nicene Creed / Credo I believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, light from light, true God from true God, begotten not made, consubstantial with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven; and by the Holy Spirit, was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life who proceeds from the Father and the Son. who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified. who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic, apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. I look forward to the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
