Desogn thinking toolbox activity Design thinking toolbox mindset - is driven by curiosity → we are curious and tend to ask Why plus how questions in order to look at things from a certain perspective. - focused on people → we will focus on other human beings and build empathy, and we become mindful when addressing the others wants and needs - accept complexity → we explore complex systems, accept uncertainty and understand that complex problems will require complex solutions - visualise and draw → we will use stories, visualisations, and various other simple languages to share our findings with the others around us, so that it will aid us in creating a clearcut for the users - experiment and iterate → we will build and test prototypes itervalry to understand learn and solve problems in the context of the user co-create , grow and scale → we will continue to expand and build on our capabilities to create scalable market opportunities in a digital world, and especially in digital ecosystems With varying perspectives and frameworks → the situation will sometimes require to combine different approaches with design thinking, data analytics, systems thinking and lean start up methodologies Develop process awareness → we acknowledge were we stand in the design thinking process and develop a feeling for the groan zone to change that mindset through targeted facilitation Collaborate in networks → we collaborate on ad-hoc, agile, and networked basic with T-shaped people and U-shaped teams across the departments and companies Reflect on actions → we reflect on our way of thinking. Our actions, and attitudes because they have an impact on on what we do and on the assumptions we make

Socially engaged process MISS Largo MRS Largo ***QUESTIONS ON ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS*** What community do you intend to involve and why? - York university students - Mental health is not addressed enough and it is a struggle that is universally experienced What does your project propose to address and how will it intervene? - Mental health challenges within students - Our process intervenes by encouraging students to be brave by facing their fears and that they are not alone in the struggle - Art piece holds a new meaning from fear to courage after experience Mental Health - Junaid mental health is a serious topic that needs more recognition, it affects everyone, in particular, college students in Canada. Statistics show that 75% of mental health problems appear before the age of 24 and 46% of post-secondary students reported that they felt too depressed to fully function in 2016, which was an increase from 40% in 2013. Along with 65% of students who reported overwhelming anxiety in 2016, a massive increase from 2013 which showed 58%. A survey was done in 2017 on campus with regard to health service usage, had mental health as the second most issue that on-campus physicians faced. As the statistics show you can see how mental health is affecting young college students, it starts to affect the students learning ability, hence making it harder for them to achieve their goals or to even graduate, without proper guidance a healthy environment, and resources many will suffer from mental health issues. I believe that with our proposed idea, which will be explained on the next slide, we hope to dismantle the stigma around mental health and help those who are collectively seeking out help. Score activation lessons during my walk, I first noticed the clear blue sky, i usually always look at the blue sky as it gets my attention first. As I continued walking I was able to see the trees visibly swaying back and forth as a small wind picked up. Map of my walk - I almost always look down at the sidewalk to watch where I'm going - I saw birds flying around me - I was able to see many of my neighbors out walking as well - many unique and different cars around my neighborhood Walking as a straight brown, middle classed male, I have to say it never bothered me, I was content with who I am and it never occurred to me while walking. I would mostly like to walk around a mall or park with a mice long sidewalk, as I feel this best benefits me while walking The walking is my destination, I can let loose and let my thoughts run in my head while remaining in a serene state as im walking. It helps me unwind and think deeply of issues or just to relax myself for a bit and not think to deeply of anything. Depends on how im feeling.

RGM For my RGM, I went online to help inspire me as I was having difficulty coming up with a design. I have provided two images based upon the RGM’s I was inspired by. I took a way different approach, I was initially going to have the end result be water being poured into a glass, but I was unable to construct a successful RGM model so I scrapped that idea. I then used the plastic container that I was originally going to use to hold my marble. I thought I would have an RGM machine that would replicate the hole-in-one in golf. So I went to work with multiple errors, I was initially going to have dominoes knock the car into the other car which would've hit the marble in the container but my dominoes were weak, and they wouldn’t stand up still so I gave up and decided to place the first car into the cardboard tube holding paper towels. Even with my new proposed idea I was still making error after error, but eventually, I was able to get it just right. I also noticed I was still shorthanded on materials so I decided not make a big complicated RGM machine and just stick with a simple one. I still made a bunch of errors but eventually got it just right. Materials I used: - two marbles (a big one and a small one) - tissue box - two toy cars - a door stopper - medicinal boxes - books to hold my machine in place - plastic container

For my final project, I was thinking of having my medium be minecraft and in the game I will build objects that are crucial for different social issues. For example: covid-19, I’ll build a mask and explain its significance of it and how it relates to the issue. Here's how im going to lay it out(some are vague but ill narrow it down when im dong my project): Covid -19 Inflation Global warming Racism Human rights abuse Women’s rights Religious discrimination Poverty Hunger

Week 6 Reviewing terms - relational aesthetics is a philosophical concept - comes from Nicholas Bourriaud in 2002 - his observations began in the 1990s - the viewer is crucial in completing art, relational artwork needs an audience - ex. Rikrit tiravanija responds to his very known critique

- Socially engaged art - a social practice, that involves relational aesthetics - its collaborative, and needs people as a medium of the work - needs to focus on some type of change and political action - works of art need new evaluation metrics, we look at the relationships and the social and political terms - community-based art
