Story Transcript

Hotaru Takegawa, a six-year-old girl visits her grandmother’s home during her school semester break. She was always excited whenever she met her grandmother. Her grandmother, Hina often loitered in front of her place to welcome Hotaru.

Hotaru is a very cheerful and active girl, she couldn’t sit still and loves playing around in the backyard with her grandmother’s companion. Occasionally, Hina will do a small picnic in her backyard. She enjoys eating fruits while watching her grandaughter playing around.

However, Hotaru found herself lost when dawn meet. She started shivering and panicking when she tried a few times to find the way out. Finally, she burst out of tears.

However, curiosity killed the cat. She started to feel bored and leak out without Hina’s attention. She was tired of playing around in the backyard and started exploring the Forest nearby Hina’s place.

Fortunately, Hotaru saw a young teenage boy walking in her direction. She intended to run towards the boy, Gin, and asked for help. Gin told her to stay at a distance as he is a spirit who is forbidden to touch by a human. Gin brought her out from the forest after then.

Ever since then, Hotaru & Gin become friends, Hotaru always spent her semester break at her grandmother’s house so that she could meet Gin in the forest which is inhibited by the spirit.

Year after passed, both of them spent their time together happily. Gin always brings Hotaru to a Lake cruise to capture the beauty of nature. She was so happy to see the places where Gin stay. At this point, she noticed she had grown almost as tall as Gin.

At the same time, she also realized that she had romantic feelings for Gin. They found a cozy place and sit down while Gin started to blurt out that he was once a human but abandoned by his parents when he is a child in the forest. The mountain spirit took him up, later casting him a spell so that he can live on.

Gin invited Hotaru to the youkai festival which was held by the spirit. The festival is similar to the humans festival. They tied their hand with a blue sash to prevent getting lost. After the festival, they went for a walk and an incident happened. A child running nearby Gin nearly tripped and Gin grabbed the kid’s arm was actually a human.

Hotaru realized Gin starting to disappear. Gin was surrounded by fireflies. Hotaru was pathetic when she realized they could not meet ever again. Many years after the events in the forest, Hotaru continues to visit her grandmother’s place, facing forward towards the future.

Intrigued by the tale of a mountain god, six-year-old Hotaru Takegawa loses her way in the forest inhabited by spirit while visiting her grandmother. Exhausted and desperate for help, Hotaru is thrilled to find a masked forest spirit named Gin. She learns the hard way that she should not touch the boy, or he would disappear. In spite of this, Gin leads Hotaru out of the forest and warns her never to return when she promises to come again with a gift. Hotaru and Gin become close friends as she visits him every time. However, their relationship and resolve are put to the test, when romantic feelings conflict with the one and only rule.
