Where do ideas come from?
INVITATION
The following pages make use of the notes I’ve taken throughout my years in University. They are an amalgam of ideas that spurred in the moment, on the margins of notebooks. An unconscious measure for understanding the world around me. Am I a person of images or a person of words? That I do not know. What I do know is that my goal is to always use everything I’ve ever done. To build a library, if you will. So that in its transformation, it can become something new.
why is hard to catch one?
Client: Florida Film Insititute Job: Rebranding Campaign Purpose: Design a new logo and brand for the Florida Film Institute. The purpose was to align the organization to the current film movements in the state of Florida. That includes creating an aesthetic that borrows from recognizable films, such as Sean Baker’s “The Florida Project” and Barry Jenkins’ “MoonLight”. It was also important to give an ethos to the organization, grounding it in the beauty the state has to offer.

We took inspiration from the warm sun that envelopes us and the bright colors of our flora and fauna. There are few places where art and culture merge so tightly. It is our mission to aid the development of our future filmmakers in the hopes that they too will share the beauty of our state with the rest of the world. We have chosen the flamingo to represent us. These animals thrive in communities and are known to travel hundreds of miles. These animals represent the spirit of the filmmaker, always conscious of their community, and hungry for the world.
are they like wild animals?
The Florida Film Institute (FFI), works with selected students countywide, with the aim of sparking an interest in the field of Media Arts. High school teens have an opportunity to explore the creative process of cinema through a detailed sequence of activities that culminate in the production of their own music videos and short film projects. Synonymous with art appreciation, self-esteem enhancement and increased job knowledge/skills, FFI aims to positively influence the development of the local, creative youth.

Client: Zara Job: Advertising Campaign Purpose: Craft a story around the new Spring 2021 collection. The collection relied heavily on the shapes and colors of nature; with all of its flowers, plants, and succulents. In our campaign “Fashion mimics nature”, we perceived diversity and freedom to the designs and decided to manifest this in our campaign by extending this perceived notion of beauty towards nature and applying it to the diversity of human beings. After all, we are all part of nature.

To grow in the open air & sleep with the Earth. The colors of nature envelop one in a harmony that AT TIMES STANDS AS an equal to music. The spirit of fashion is to envelop one’s body in the materials of nature. By every thread, do we, like birds, mimick what is in front of us.

Project: Eclipse on the Hypothalamus Job: Short Film Purpose: Explore the phenomenon of inspiration and its torturing effect on the aspiring artist. Sometimes it’s there, sometimes it’s not. But when it does, it often feels that these ideas come from elsewhere, from outside the realm of our everyday world. It’s as if they came from the place where celestial bodies dance. The development of a craft often entails learning this dance of life.

And then posed under the branches of the willow tree, We’re two birds of colors blue and red, And under the blanket of its leaves, The tree seemed to sing nature’s anthem, And the sun shone down and the sky opened up, And the wind blew the branches of the tree, So that it seemed to be waving its flag.
I was saddened that wherever they had gone, they weren’t able to take their tree. All we wanted was an ocean accessible by backdoor, sprinklers, and hoses, And maybe a dog, And a floor blooming green, In which we could lay under the shade of a tree.
So many years behind the pretext of elaborate email subject lines and the American dream, Had I forgotten to listen and see? Or did the birds always pose in freedom’s colors and sang a song for which I wouldn’t kneel?
But we were so busy to notice the bees pollinating, the clovers were pulled so that our lawn could stay green, Mom and dad working long hours, Long school hours longer still, Living in fear that a missed payment would mean adding our names to the willow tree,
How long were these things really here? Was it a bank that planted this tree? Because carved on the wood are heights of children we did not meet, Whether evicted or gone with the wind,
And when the birds noticed me, Ready to fly, I reminded them of the rapid movements of early rush, school buses, and cars, Was our noise brutal? Was our progress incomplete?
I headed back to the city and noticed something crueler still, Hidden in the canopy of perfectly distanced trees, They looked below and we had disappeared, Our trees had grown taller but did not swing with the wind, And now too do I notice and we are loud but we do not sing. Their anthem had drums and trumpets, The whole of nature seemed to cheer, The original American spirit, Not American, Nor human, But something broader still, Maybe just like nature creates the wind, Or makes it rains when it needs be, It sent us this encrypted message in the form of a sneeze, So that we could look out from our windows, And grow bored from our screens, Because now that it is silent, Do they sing louder to remind us of our sins.
Project: Nature’s Anthem Job: Personal Interest Purpose: Explore at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, the intricate relationship between nature and modern mankind. A look at how suddently a new consciousness arose regarding our relantionship with technology and our dependency on the tools of our labor.
Project: Street Photography Job: Personal Interest Purpose: Reflect on the places, the people & the architecture of the places that I find myself in. It’s a way to be present, always aware of the beauty and the complexity around me. However, it’s also a way to remove myself, to observe, like a ghost, the world and its movements. It’s meditative. It’s healing. It’s a way to participate with the world.

I began to smile briefly, At the passing of a rancid train, Or the imprudent drivers, Or the careless Uber bikers, And all the noise they made I gave some green to a beggar, As he sang white clouds, And the gray rock began to reflect some color in the night, And the sky was clear, And although you couldn’t see the stars, The lights of the city didn’t allow it to grow dark The dirty snow melting inside my shoe, Under the electric red of a lamp heater, As the owner leaned over and welcomed us, As he did everyone else Who would eat out in the cold like this? Perhaps had it not been my farewell, We would have eaten at home, Equally romantic, Equally caring of the man with the bow But love must be shared with the world, Even more so if the world was in need of love
