GoTeky Arts in Gaming

"Failure doesn't mean the

game is over, it means try

again with experience."

How art is used in video games?

Composers create soundtracks and effects, artists create 2D

images and 3D models, writers draft story arcs and

dialogue, and programmers choreograph all the moving

pieces into a seamless world. The art is a hodgepodge of art.

The players/audience experience the games in a first person

sort of way.

Video game art is a specialized form of computer art

employing video games as the artistic medium. Video game

art often involves the use of patched or modified video

games or the repurposing of existing games or game

structures, however it relies on a broader range of artistic

techniques and outcomes than artistic modification and it

may also include painting, sculpture, appropriation, in-

game intervention and performance, sampling, etc. It may

also include the creation of art games either from scratch

or by modifying existing games.

The

The

of

Birth of

Esports History Esports is a fascinating

phenomenon in a billion

dollar industry. Officially,

“Esports” is short for

electronic sports and refers

to competitive video gaming

with tournament and league

structures just like

traditional sports

Esports traces its origins back

to 1972, when home consoles

first became common. In 1980,

the first nationwide Space

Invaders competition was held

with 10,000 participants. A

year later, gamers competed in

the surprisingly cutthroat,

inaugural Donkey Kong

tournament.

4

Formerly a leisure activity, today

a well-paid profession as a pro

gamer.

The Rise of Esports

in the Philippines The Philippine government has

officially recognized eSports as a

legitimate sport in the Philippines in

2017 under the Philippine Games and

Amusement Board and the Office of

the President. This allows professional

eSports players to secure athletic

licenses and provide them more

freedom to participate and represent

the country in international

tournaments.

SIBOL Philippine National Esports

Team also known as Team Sibol represents the Philippines in

international esports

tournaments. It is organized

under the Philippine Esports

Organization.

The Logo The team’s name is the Filipino

word for “growth,” a fitting

name as the team signifies the

rise of esports, both in the

Philippines and on the world

stage. Flaunting our national

colors, the Sibol logo is an

amalgam of the leaf and the

flame. The leaf symbolizes new

beginnings while the flame

represents the passion of the

Filipino gamer. The shapes in

the flame also subtly spell out

the country's acronym, PHI.

Graphics Graphics

Not Just Gaming

A variety of computer graphic techniques

have been used to display video game

content throughout the history of video

games. The predominance of individual

techniques have evolved over time,

primarily due to hardware advances and

restrictions such as the processing power

of central or graphics processing units. With the advent of 3D accelerated

graphics, video games could expand

beyond the typically sprite-based 2D

graphics of older graphics technologies

to describe a view frequently more true

to reality and lifelike than their

predecessors. Perspective projection has

also been used in some earlier titles to

present a 3D view from a fixed (and thus

somewhat less hardware-intensive)

perspective with a limited ability to move.

Into the World Filipino characters characters

in video games

The Philippines and the Filipinos are

well-known for having great pride

in anything and everything Filipino

(or even a slight touch or blood of

our beloved country). So, if you’re a

gamer and it so happens that there

is a character that represents our

color and flag, then it’s #Pinoy

Pride. While some of the characters from

popular games are already

mainstreamed and are shown on

social media and television, it still

feels good to be represented,

especially in a game you play. So,

let us take a look at these Filipino characters in video games and how

they are portrayed.

Into the World Heroes Collide

Lapu-Lapu

Lapu-Lapu is an MLBB HERO. He

is based on real-life Filipino

hero, Lapu-Lapu. In the

Philippines, he is best known as

the first Filipino to repel foreign

invasions, and his background is

based on historical events but

edited to fit in the game's lore. Statue of Datu Lapu-Lapu

Manny Pacquiao skin

Paquito, the Heavenly Fist, is

a hero in Mobile Legends:

Bang Bang. He is the first

hero to receive the Tagalog

voiceover. Paquito is based

on Manny Pacquiao, a

former professional boxer

from the Philippines, who is

also the current brand

ambassador of Mobile

Legends: Bang Bang. This is

also evident to Paquito's

southpaw stance, similar to

his real-life counterpart.

Characters She is an operator in

the Trident faction

from two Call of Duty

games, Vanguard and

Warzone.

Isabella Rosario Dulnuan Reyes

(Call of Duty: Vanguard)

Talim (Soulcalibur Series)

She is the OG in the

fighting game arena

representing Filipinos,

as you would notice in

her name Talim

meaning blade or sharp

in the local language. 13

Into the World Filipino Fictional Fictional

Characters

Neon’s electricity-based and

lightning-quick abilities are

funnily based on the

frequent blackouts in Manila,

Philippines. Her character

trailer even shows several

Filipino references, like speaking in Filipino, walis

tambo, a Gilas Pilipinas jersey

frame on her room, and

listening to the Filipina-

Aussie singer Ylona Garcia. Neon

Aside from Neon of

Valorant, Zeri is also

a product of the

gaming labs of Riot

Games, representing

some of the loudest

fans of the game —

the Filipinos.
