INTRODUCTION This module covers the concepts about Close Circuit Television. These concepts can help the students understand the basic information about CCTV that will be beneficial in their studies, as well as, in their professional growth. The areas covered in this module are the importance of CCTV, types of CCTV systems and cameras, best location for home camera system, and how to install CCTV system.

For two (1) week, this module will be used as the primary learning material for this specific topic. At the end of the lesson, you will be able to: • Define close circuit television • Identify the types of close circuit television • Familiarize the characteristics and classification if the close circuit television • Perform the actual wiring connection of CCTV.

Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) -also known as video surveillance is the use of video cameras to transmit a signal to a specific place, on a limited set of monitors. It differs from broadcast television in that the signal is not openly transmitted, though it may employ point-to-point (P2P), point-to-multipoint (P2MP), or mesh wired or wireless links. IMPORTANCE OF CCTV Industrial processes- In several industries, CCTV supervision is required to monitor the stages involved in various processes. Sometimes the law orders compulsory CCTV monitoring in these industries. Special CCTV cameras, which measure the temperatures if the processes, are used for such purposes. Reining to Crimes- CCTV is a very efficient tool to rein in crime because the recorded footage is substantial evidence against the criminal. A recent survey reports 51% depreciation in the parking lots and a 23% decrease in crime on the roads where CCTV Video Surveillance was used. Traffic monitoring- Many cities monitor daily traffic through CCTV surveillance. This enables the authority to keep a check on traffic jams, accidents, etc. In Retail Industry- Retail industry has many advantages of CCTV surveillance. CCTV in retail facilities monitoring financial transactions, products on display, any incidents of theft and many more such things that require to be maintained record of.

CCTV SYSTEM TYPES CCTV Systems are broadly divided into two types. These are: 1. Wired CCTV SYSTEM 2. Wireless CCTV SYSTEM CCTV Camera Benefits CCTV is commonly used for the variety of purpose, including: • • • •

Maintaining perimeter security in medium-to-high secure areas and installations. Observing behavior of incarcerated inmates and potentially dangerous patients in medical facilities. Traffic monitoring. Building and ground security.

• INDOOR CAMERA Indoor camera as its name used for indoor security mechanism. These are suitable for security in homes, schools, offices, hotels etc...

• OUTDOOR CAMERA Outdoor camera is used fir outdoor places. They are mostly used for entry and exits points with limited lightnings. These have hard Shell vandal-proof casings.

• IR DAY/NIGHT CAMERA IR day/night cameras are used for high alert security areas were surveillance needs to happened day and night. These cameras are used by military personnel, in parking lots and security zones.

DOME CAMERA Cameras are installed inside a dark dome and are design in a way that they go unnoticed by visitors. These cameras can be rotated and tilted. Manually, dome cameras are used I public places like railway stations, bus terminals, and other areas where there is a huge gathering of people.

DVRs A Digital Video Recorder (DVR), sometimes referred to by the merchandising term personal video recorder (PVR), is a consumer electronics device or application software that records video in a digital format to a disk drive, USB flash drive, SD memory card. SSF or other local or networked mass storage device. The term includes set-top boxes (STB) with direct to disk recording facility, portable media players (PMP) with recording, TV gateways with network and local recordings, recorders (PMR) as camcorders that record onto Secure Digital memory cards and software for personal computers which enables video capture and playback to and from a hard disk drive A television set with built in digital video recording facilities was introduced by LG in 2007 followed by other manufacturers. •

Where are the best location for home security camera? It is vital to consider the weak points in your own personal property, however there are certain areas of all homes that are commonly targeted by law breakers.

Common Security Weak Points Front Door This is the most obvious route for criminals to gain access into your home, and the biggest proportion of break-ins occur via this entrance. To prevent any items being launched at the delicate CCTV cameras, consider mounting the equipment at the second-floor level or fitting a wire cage around it.

Back and Side Doors Any entrance into your property is viewed as a potential channel for a criminal to gain access into your private space. Have some cameras trained on all doors, as these are your most vulnerable spots. Take same protective precautions as described in the previous point, to prevent any tampering. Patio and French doors are especially defenceless against break-ins, so support their stability with a thick glass and a well-placed CCTV camera.

Off-street windows Windows that are not facing onto a busy street or road may be attractive to crooks as there are no prying eyes from the public. In addition to cameras, as an extra safety enforcement, never neglect your windows and keep them closed and locked whenever you go out.

Garage Some people may not think to monitor their garage, but this is often a common access route for burglars. Therefore, whether your garage contains valuable equipment or not, it’s important to keep it safeguarded. A camera facing the driveway or garage area is great for picking up signs of suspicious activity. Alternatively, you may wish to place the camera inside the garage, pointing it at an angle where the light from the opening door can light up the dark interior. 7|Page

Backyard Whether it’s a shed bursting with pricey gardening machinery, or a garden full of play equipment for the kids, often our gardens house many expensive items that make them inviting to crooks. To keep this area safe and secure, have a few smartly placed cameras dotted around, along with some security lights. All these elements can act as great deterrents to law breakers, making them think twice about accessing your garden.

Indoors It is a common misconception that CCTV cameras are exclusively suited to the outdoors. Installing a camera on the inside of your house, lens trained on the doors or windows, can record a criminal entering your home, offering a full view of their faces for easier identification. The only disadvantage with the indoor placement of camera is that they are not as visually deterring and a criminal has to first enter your home to notice them.

Procedures: 1. Prepare all the necessary materials and always use PPE. 2. Connect all the devices using connectors (BNC and Baluns) and refer to the diagram given for the connections of the CCTV. 3. Set-up the settings of the CCTV, start recording and ask your teacher if there are questions with regard to the connections. 4. Double check the power supply and the connections before you turn on the power. 5. Show your output to your teacher to check it.
