Hawaiian Airlines MEC Contract Comparison | Q2 2021

INTRODUCTION Aloha. In preparation for Section 6 negotiations, the Hawaiian Airlines Master Executive Council (HAL MEC) asked the HAL Negotiating Committee (NC) to compare our Pilot Working Agreement (PWA), demographics, and working conditions, as of June 2021, with those at six other industry-leading airlines: American, Alaska, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest, and United. Drawing on information from the Air Line Pilots Association’s Economic and Financial Analysis (E&FA) Department, collective bargaining agreements at the preceding airlines, and publicly available information, the HAL NC has placed our PWA within an informative factual context. Thought-provoking graphs and charts identify the various negotiated approaches to some of the most important contractual issues we face as a pilot group: scope, pay, flight operations, bidding, scheduling, insurance, furlough, and retirement. On this note, it is important to emphasize that while we’ve presented the information to all seven pilot groups and vetted the salient features of their respective contracts presented in this document, the more streamlined, and thus more accessible, format here cannot replace the close textual reading needed to gain a deeper understanding and interpretation of individual contract provisions. Moreover, the generalized nature of the information presented in this contract comparison reflects the fact that this document is not intended to be used, or capable of being used, as a primary source of contract language or a secondary resource for interpreting the language or content of any of the contracts referenced herein. Ultimately, the HAL MEC commissioned this contract comparison in order to empower pilots to make informed recommendations, contributions, assessments, and decisions throughout the Section 6 process. In this spirit, the HAL MEC and NC will continue to share information and resources and seek your input and perspective on an ongoing basis. Mahalo in advance for working with us to envision, create, and secure our future.
