WELCOME TO THE HOSPICE IOM 2023 DIARY! This is our second year of publishing our Hospice diaires. We hope that you find your diary useful and informative. It is a great fundraiser for us and we would like to thank all of the businesses who have made the publication possible FOC to Hospice by supporting this initiative with their advertising. In turn we would ask you to please consider supporting these local businesses where you can.

About Hospice Isle of Man Since our founding in 1983, Hospice Isle of Man has grown to provide all aspects of a comprehensive Palliative and End of Life Care service free of charge for our patients and their families. Hospice Isle of Man receives a contribution from the IOM Government of around 10% of our running costs, with the remainder of our funding being raised by our Island community. Thanks to this generosity we can support and empower those we care for through our Inpatient Unit, our Wellbeing Services and within patients’ own homes. As well as pain management we offer a range of practical and emotional support to help ease our patients’ journeys including physiotherapy, complementary therapy, counselling and chaplaincy work. From the freshly cooked delicious meals we prepare to the nurse’s hand to hold in the middle of the night, we care about each and every one of our patients and ensure that their journey is personal to them.

Our services at Hospice IOM include: • In-Patient Unit • Hospice at Home • Wellbeing Day Support • A Specialist Medical and Nursing team • Complementary Therapy • A Lymphoedema service • Social Work Support • Rehabilitation service • Bereavement service • Psychological support and; • Rebecca House (our Children’s Hospice)

All our services are provided free of charge to patients and their families. At any one time there are around 350 patients (plus their relatives) under our care in Hospice Isle of Man, Nobles Hospital, in the community, or in their own homes. We are committed to providing care to anyone with a condition that is Terminal, Life-limiting or Life Shortening (with regards to Children and Young People). At Hospice Isle of Man we embrace a holistic philosophy that combines high quality medical, nursing and therapy interventions with social activities, spiritual and psychological care. Over 450 volunteers give their time to support us and we always welcome new volunteers. Please get in touch if you would like to get involved! The wellbeing of our patients, their families, staff and volunteers is always at the centre of all the decisions we make. We are delighted that due to the incredible generosity of the Tevir Group our Hospice building has undergone a major refurbishment. This has fulfilled our ambitions to improve our physical environment for our patients and those who matter to them. Hospice Isle of Man now has the highest quality of spatial use, clinical equipment and technological advancements throughout the UK and we are so proud to be paving the way as a leading facility in Hospice Care.

Our fundraising efforts have been severely impacted due to recent island lockdowns and the impact of COVID, and yet, they are vital to ensure we are able to continue to deliver our services. We would like to thank our exceptionally generous supporters, without whom we simply wouldn’t be here. You really are the heart of our Island Hospice and we thank you for your continuous support in raising awareness of our services, donating to our cause and truly embracing our charitable endeavours. Your efforts will help to ensure we can always provide our services and support the people of our Island to live well, their way, to the end of their lives.

How you can help There are so many ways you can get involved: • Donate money and/or pre-loved goods • Buy from our 7 Hospice shops and Superstore • Volunteer, attend or help at our fundraising events • Sign up for our monthly lottery, or buy one of our special prize draw tickets • Become a Regular Giver/Member • Our most valuable income is to leave a gift in your will

Gifts in Wills Gifts in Wills are our most valuable source of income; contributing significantly to our ability to deliver our patient care. When preparing your will, we know that your first priority will be to take care of your loved ones, but many people find that even after they have done this, they can leave something to a charity or cause special to them. By leaving us a Gift in your Will today you are investing in the future of Hospice IOM tomorrow. It helps ensure that we can continue to care for local people on island for generations to come. We are hugely grateful for Gifts in Wills of all shapes and sizes, ranging from 1% of an estate to 100%, and everything in between. Anything you choose to leave to us, however big or small, will have a profound impact on the care we provide for our local community.

Who to speak to? As a Will is a legal document, we encourage you to speak to your local solicitor for advice, or feel free to call us on 647400 if you would like more information. Once you have finished the process of writing your Will, it is advisable to tell someone close to you where your Will is kept. If you decide to include a gift to Hospice IOM in your Will, informing us of this fact via a pledge is most helpful to us.

Can you help us bring comfort, dignity and joy to the last days of life? It is never too late to make or amend your Will. So please consider picking up the phone today and call us on 647400.

Why is it important to leave a Will? Without a Will, you have no say in who inherits your money or how much they will inherit.

Why are legacies important to Hospice IOM? A Gift in your Will helps ensure that Hospice is here for future generations.

How do I leave a legacy to Hospice IOM?

Speak to a local solicitor. They will need our charity number: 317. Alternatively, feel free to call our Fundraising team on 647400.

Our promise to you We’re always here to talk and we won’t put any pressure on you.

Even the smallest legacy can make a big difference to the lives of others. To find out more about leaving a Gift in your Will, or to receive a copy of our Legacy Guide, please visit:

Hospice at Home Care Here at Hospice IOM, we believe that everyone should receive hospice influenced care that is well coordinated, flexible and personal to an individual to meet their needs, in a timely manner in a place of their choice. Our Hospice at Home service plays a pivotal role within our community nursing service. The service provides care to any existing patient of Hospice, living with a condition that is terminal or life-limiting. We are extremely proud of our Hospice at Home care team who deliver an incredible service, providing support in the home 24/7, including overnight and at the weekend to our patients. We provide approximately 3,850 hours of Hospice at Home care annually. This has ensured more people can benefit from our services, and we are meeting the needs of individuals who choose to have care at home. In addition, this type of integrated care offers people the support they need at the right time, with the aim of enabling our professional team to have earlier involvement in the care of patients. We are very grateful to the Diana Princess of Wales Trust for their continuous generosity and support, providing much needed funds to help people have the choice to receive End of Life Care at Home.
