Entrepreneurs are becoming more prevalent now than compared to the past when most individuals relied on being hired by a firm or an organisation. This essay elaborates on why this has been changed and the adversities that entrepreneurs might face in choosing such a working environment. Self-employment is most likely to occur because of the mindset of the new generation wanting independence in following what they enjoy. This is due to the growing number of social media influences that make them feel united in their thoughts. Additionally, with the advances in technology, there are a variety of avenues to go about, and it is easier to generate a client base with minimum capital allocation for a business. For example, the reality show ‘Shark Tank’ which was aired in the United States, gives the chance for small business owners to present their products and the goal is for the entrepreneurs to impress a panel of investors who might invest in their businesses. On the other hand, self-employed personnel can face lots of risks and challenges while carrying out their businesses. This is mainly because of unstable income. The unpredictability of retaining a stable client base and contingency issues like the most recent covid-19 pandemic and the economic crisis in Sri Lanka are examples. Here, many imports and exports failed due to lockdowns and increased prices reduced the customer base. Therefore, small business owners struggled immensely. As a result, even if they change their minds about going to corporations to work, they are less likely to be recruited because they have less experience in the corporate environment. In conclusion, although self-employment is on the rise and is beneficial, it has its own drawbacks too.

SDG4 is targeted on achieving equity, inclusion, and gender equality; ensuring effective learning and the acquisition of pertinent knowledge, skills, and competencies; and ensuring the relevance of learning in terms of vocational and technical skills for decent work as well as for global citizenship in a diverse and interconnected world.

Christmas is a Christian holiday that commemorates Jesus' birth. Christmas in English, which means "mass on Christ's day," is a very modern invention. The Anglo-Saxon gel or the Germanic jl, which both referred to the winter solstice feast, may have been the source of the older name Yule. The names for nativity in their respective languages—Navidad in Spanish, Natale in Italian, and Nol in French—are all presumably used in that order. The term "Christmas" in German means "holy night." Christmas has also evolved into a secular family holiday that is celebrated by both Christians and non-Christians equally, free of any Christian traditions, and characterised by an everexpanding exchange of presents. Santa Claus, a legendary character, is central to this secular Christmas celebration. Christmas is observed on December 25 every year.

The subject of 'solidarity through volunteering' is the focus of the 2022 International Volunteer Day (IVD). This serves as a reminder of the ability of mankind as a whole to effect change for the better through volunteerism. Every year on December 5, the UN Volunteers (UNV) programme organises International Volunteer Day (IVD) to honour and promote the tireless efforts of volunteers all around the world. Growing inequalities calls for collaboration in order to discover shared answers. Volunteers create answers to pressing development concerns and for the general benefit after being united by solidarity. We too, as Leos must celebrate the spirit of volunteerism on this day.

👼🏻"පියාපත් - රකුසු ඇසින් ඉවතට"👼🏻 The Leo Club of Polgasowita, along with the Leo Club of Dehiwala East, has organized a drug prevention project named, 👼🏻"පියාපත් - රකුසු ඇසින් ඉවතට"👼🏻 with the aim of colouring the future of schoolchildren like little flower buds and putting aside the dark clouds in their childhood. Leos of District 306A2 got together and spent this Christmas with the community spreading the joy of Christmas with songs and fun events to make sure that this day will be a "Day To Remember" for all of us! The event was held on 24th December at Diyatha Uyana.

DISTRICT DIARIES MONTH OF DECEMBER 2022

LEO SPORTS DAY

The “A2 Sports Day” District Project has been organized by Leo District 306A2 as a district event! And this event has been held this year, 2022, after a three-year break in the A2 Leos' history.

Accordingly, this event has been scheduled to take place across two days, with team competitions taking place on one day and field events on the other! As a result, the University of Sri Jayewardenepura hosted the inaugural Leo Sports Day on December 10th, 2022. However, the second Sports Day was not held on December 11th, 2022, as planned, due to unfavorable weather. Therefore, all of the field events and ceremonial sessions took place on December 18th, 2022, which served as the second day of the sports day.

In the team events and field events for this event, all 26 Leo Clubs from the District Leo Clubs took part. Leo Disali, our club's president, competed in two team sports—basketball and netball—and placed third in each of those competitions. She competed in the field events as well, placed second in both the 200-meter mixed relay and the 100-meter race. Leo Malika, the club vice president, then competed in a team event and placed second in netball. From field events, she then placed first runner up in the 800 m.Leo Yeshan, a recent addition to the Leo Club, then took part in a field event and placed first and won the long jump event, making our Polgasowita Leos proud!

Overall, the Region B "Gryffindor" house took home the A2 Leos Sports Day Winning Trophy. Finally, "A2 Sports Day" ends on a high note!

HOLIDAY FOOD Bolo-rei (King Cake)

DID YOU KNOW?



During the Christmas season, Portuguese bakeries are frequently filled with bolo-rei (King Cake). The cake is filled with raisins, almonds, crystallised fruit, and a tiny present or bean. The cake is made in the shape of a crown and if the guests find a bean inside of the cake, he/ she is in charge of providing the cake for the next year. On January 6th, King's Day (Dia de Reis), bolo-rei is customarily served.

ACROSS THE WORLD The Beacons Way

This 152-kilometer route was created in 2005 by Brecon Beacons Park Society member and avid hiker John Sansom. It showcases some of the park's greatest views. Moreover, It is an area of high hills, deep valleys and expansive moorland. The trail may be split down into separate walks or taken on as a challenging eight-day excursion.
