Statement of Faith · God has given to parents the mandate of His Divine Word to teach, instruct, and train their children in the way they should go; and it is upon this foundation that we base our organization. · God exists eternally in three Persons as Father, Son and Holy Spirit; and these three are one God, and there is no other true God. · God is the absolute and sole Creator of the Universe, and creation was by divine act, not through the evolutionary process. · Jesus Christ is God the Son, and is both God and man. He was born of a virgin, lived a perfect, sinless life, was crucified and died as penalty for our sins, raised bodily from the dead on the third day, appeared to His disciples and as many as 500 at one time, ascended to the Father’s right hand, and is personally, bodily, visibly coming again to earth. · The Holy Spirit is a Person, is God and possesses all the divine attributes; He indwells all believers at the moment of their salvation; and fills them in response to confession of sin and full yieldedness to Him. · Man is a sinner and totally depraved, void of any righteousness, without God; and the whole human race has fallen into the sin of Adam, bringing personally upon each one physical, spiritual and the possibility of eternal death. · Jesus Christ provided the only way to salvation through His substitutionary death and the shed blood on the cross, and salvation is entirely apart from good works, baptism, church membership, or any of man’s efforts, and is of pure grace. · We believe that God wonderfully creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. (Genesis 1:26-27) Rejection of one's biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person. · We believe that the term "marriage" has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. (Genesis 2:18-25) We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and woman who are married to each other. (I Cor 6:18; 7:2-5; Hebrews 13:4) We believe that God has commanded that no sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman. · We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect and dignity. (Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31) Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor the doctrines of Harvest Community School. · This Statement of Faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For the purposes of Harvest Community School's faith, doctrine, practice, policy and discipline, the board of Family Harvest Ministries will be the final interpretive authority on the Bible's meaning and application.

Vision, Mission, Educational Philosophy Vision To see a community of Christian families and educators providing an excellent spiritual and academic context for educating their students with hands on an creative activities and encouraging each other to reflect the character of God in the world.

Mission To be a community of Christian believers who are committed to building strong families, developing moral maturity and achieving academic excellence to prepare God’s people for a lifetime of personal ministry.

Educational Philosophy Our educational philosophy is founded on the strength of these primary assumptions: 1. There is ultimately no knowledge that is incompatible with the Christian faith and a sound education is based on the principles of truth given in the Bible. 2. Family engagement in the educational process makes a critical difference in the efficacy of a student’s education. 3. Ethics training, in the context of a reciprocal partnership between teachers and parents, provides the moral foundation, necessary for superior scholarship. 4. The best leaning environment is inquiry-based, promotes critical thinking, fosters a commitment to pursuit of truth. 5. For Christians, the goal of education is to train students for ministry, regardless of the vocation they choose.

Core Values Students at Harvest Community School are called to demonstrate the following core values on and off campus:

Integrity Students demonstrate integrity in all relationships both within and outside the community through moral decision making, honesty and authenticity in their relationship with Jesus Christ. “The Godly walk with integrity; blessed are their children who follow Him.” Proverbs 20:7

Service Students have a willing heart to serve Jesus Christ throughout their day-to-day life. Students also have an attitude of humility; willingly serving those around themselves, respecting and submitting to authority and in all their interactions considering others better than themselves. “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourself.” Philippians 2:3

Purity Students desire to be pure and righteous before the Lord in all relationships including relationships with the opposite sex. “You can be sure that no immoral, impure or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and God.” Ephesians 5:5

Excellence Students live their life in excellence by performing all responsibilities both at home, at school, and in their community going beyond the standard expectations by showing diligence and initiative. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.“ Colossians 3:23

What We Believe We believe ...that evenings are meant for families to eat together at the dinner table. ...when children are encouraged, amazing things happen. ...that it is the school’s privilege to help kids discover their spiritual gifts to show them who God meant for them to be. ...learning should be fun and enlightening. ...if the weather is nice, class can take place outside. ...God’s plan is for us to stay pure until marriage. ...in the end, parents are ultimately responsible for their livelihoods. ...children need a place to find and express their God-given talents. ...God has a plan for every student, no matter how small or large-no matter how loud or quiet. ...God wants us to esteem others higher than ourselves. ...children need a creative and cool environment to learn the disciplines for life. ...no sin is too large to forgive and no sin is too small to ignore. ...it is our choice to forgive and forget. ...not all kids are meant for college and we should value them as much as God does. ...you should be honest even when it hurts-using lots of love. ...our God and our families are most important in life. ...we should avoid talking about others, and go to them directly when we have concerns. ...we should show respect to authority, peers and property. ...that modesty is a matter of the heart and mind and we’re committed to protecting both. ...Harvest is community-minded and should treat each other like family.

The Harvest Experience The Best of Both Worlds Harvest is a blended schedule where students attend both a traditional school and home school. Lesson plans are created by Harvest teachers for parents and students to follow at home.

Lower School Students attend school on campus Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. They enjoy all the benefits of a private Christian school such as advanced academic curriculum, classroom structure, positive peer socialization, and a staff that goes the extra mile. Students have resource classes daily and occasionally participate in a larger group production or event. But they also benefit from another whole aspect of the school: their parents.

Middle School Students attend school on campus Monday through Wednesday. Lesson plans include an overview of what students will be doing in class Monday-Wednesday, as well as a detailed list of assignments the students will complete on Thursday and Friday for home school. This home school work is due the following Monday. This unique blend of schooling offers students the structure and social benefits of a more traditional school environment for part of the week, while still allowing parents the ability to remain involved in their child’s school work for the remainder of the week.

High School Harvest High School students meet four days each week, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Friday is a home school day which also serves as an opportunity to apprentice, intern, complete service projects and extra-curricular activities. All High School core courses are offered at honors level.

Events and Extra-Curricular Activities Lower School The Lower School department has recess and PE daily along with Music and Art weekly. After school programs include: intramural sports available for 2nd thru 6th grade, Junior Cheerleading and a 4th / 5th grade choir. Students in the 5th grade may also play on our Middle School Harvest Soccer team. Lower School has am annual Fine Arts event showcasing art and music and a Wax Museum presented by the 5th grade. Other events include a Back to School Bash, Grandparent’s Feast and Field Day.

Upper School Upper School students have a variety of sports available for their participation including: Cross Country, Track, Girls’ Volleyball, Soccer, Football and Cheerleading. Basketball, Baseball, and Softball are offered depending on participation. Upper School also offers a strong Fine Arts program in which students can develop in the areas of singing, dancing, and performing. Special events for Upper School include Spiritual Retreats, Mother/Son and Father/Daughter occasions, and Christmas Parties. Middle School also enjoys A Night to Remember and High School hosts a Homecoming week of fun which includes student council sponsored activities for younger grades based around the year’s theme.

Preparing for Middle School *MS students can expect six academic classes and therefore six different lesson plans. *Organization is the key to academic success in MS. *MS students can expect Math homework on Monday and Tuesday nights that average between 30 minutes to an hour. From time to time, MS teachers may assign nightly reading for 20 minutes, in core subjects if the class is behind on curriculum. *Students are expected to maintain a minimum grade of 70 throughout their MS career at Harvest in order to apply for Harvest HS. *Please make sure your student reads through the Family handbook with you and that both you and your student sign it before entering school. *The parent’s role during the middle school years is the job of coach. Even though you may stand on the sidelines at times, you come on the field as many times as needed in order to refocus your team. Also, YOU still call the plays. Checking the lesson plans at the end of the week to guarantee ALL school work is complete is highly recommended.

Preparing for High School *Some High School classes follow a block schedule- M-W and T-R classes. Others are taught all four days *Students can expect regular home work in all academic courses that will be due the next time class meets. Math has home work M, T, W and R. *Most courses are offered on an honors level. Honor courses are weighted for the GPA. For example: Standard A = 4, Honors A = 4.5 *Students are expected to maintain a GPA of 2.5 throughout their HS career to continue at Harvest. *Make sure your student understands academic integrity as explained in the handbook when it comes to Plagiarism, Paraphrasing, Cheating and Collaboration. *Your student will be asked to sign the handbook agreement. Policies in the handbook are upheld either way, so make sure your student understands them. *High school students may bring laptops with close adherence to the handbook policies. *It is very important for your student to be organized with their academic work. The lack of organization can show up by lowered grades. *Harvest and Bright Futures require students to acquire 100 Community Service hours during their high school career. Hours can begin accruing during the summer before 9th grade. *Items that can make your transcript look more competitive: community service hours, leadership, club/sports participation, internships, awards, acknowledgments, jobs and other extracurricular activities. *If your student plans to Dual Enroll in their junior/senior year, they must have at least a 3.0 GPA and only one ‘C’ on the most current transcript posting at the time of registration.

Admission Requirements Parents are required to agree and sign our Statement of Faith. The families at Harvest Community School represent different churches and different denominations from all across the city of Jacksonville. At Harvest we come together to train our children, from preschool to high school, in basic precepts of the Word of God. Young children are taught Biblical character traits such as kindness and self control. Upper school students study the Bible more formerly through such curriculum as Understanding the Faith. We do not require our families to belong to a particular church or denomination, however, we do ask that our parents and children be Bible believing Christians, have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and that the family regularly attends and is involved in a local church. All parents must complete a parenting course offered by Harvest within their first year of attending Harvest. Parents should be willing to actively participate in homeschooling and other community events. All students, Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade, must have an entrance evaluation to determine whether HCS will be a good fit for the individual child. Harvest Community School admits students of any race, color and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs, and other school administered programs.
