Host Introduction The Malaysian Society of Parasitology and Tropical Medicine (MSPTM) was established in 1964 by the First President, Professor Dr. A.A.Sandosham and his team under the auspices of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene, London. MSPTM has more than 543 members affiliated with various educational institutions, private industries, government health agencies. The members of MSTPM are lecturers, researchers, veterinaries, medical doctors, research technicians, consultants, students, pest management professionals etc. The MSPTM is also famed for her journal; which is the internationally acclaimed Tropical Biomedicine quarterly that provides open access of the general sciences of parasitology, tropical medicine, entomology and microbiology. Research on Zoonotic Malaria in Sarawak • In 2004, researchers at the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), led by Professor Balbir Singh, together with collaborators from the Sarawak State Health Department and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, discovered a large focus of Plasmodium knowlesi malaria in Sarawak. • The Malaria Research Centre (MRC) was established as a Centre of Excellence in 2006 • Three genetically divergent subpopulations of Plasmodium knowlesi in Malaysia were discovered and a rapid detection toolkit was developed. • Novel Plasmodium knowlesi species in macaques in Sarawak was also discovered.

Appointment of Professional Conference Organiser (PCO) and Destination Management Company (DMC)
The Malaysian Society of Parasitology and Tropical Medicine (MSPTM) is proposing to appoint a Professional Conference Organiser (PCO) to support the organising committee in terms of the operation of the conference. The local host also proposed to appoint a Destination Management Company (DMC) to handle the logistics and the pre & post tour programmes. This strong coalition ensures that the ICTMM 2024 will run efficiently and successfully.

The orangutan, or ‘people of the forest' is a much-loved international icon of the rainforest. Get down and dirty with the orangutan keepers at Matang Wildlife Centre and share a day of joy with these intelligent, soulful animals which were once found in abundance throughout Sarawak.
