THE LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Metso-u Chirhah Editor-in-Chief

With this issue, we've reached one full revolution around the sun since the year started and despite a pandemic and many other different situations in the world, it has been an incredible year. High school student me wouldn't have found writing an editorial note as hard as the me now finds it. As I write this, I realise how important it is, to have a habit of always keeping in touch with books- to read or to write. A few years ago, a teacher told me that technology, despite its importance, has taken away many good ol' hobbies such as reading (or writing) from children and adults alike. In August, we released our first edition of Ganyia La Tathu which aims to bring out the potential of each student while also connecting with parents and elders of our town. It is quite a thrill to take my place as the Editor-in-Chief of the second edition of Ganyia La Tathu, which has been an incredible experience. This issue, like the previous, is a mixture of art, photography, crafts, puzzles, riddles and many more, which are contributed by the students of our very own town.

GANYIA LA TATHU

AUG-DEC

FROM THE PRESIDENT AWA TSUHAH To my cheerful students; brothers and sisters, a year has unleashed success and what you could ever be, we celebrate you and your academic achievements that have shown so bright. May you be a shining light to all, for it also reflects the wisdom of our teachers and parents imparted on us.

GREETINGS EVERYONE! To retrospect, words cannot suffice the faithfulness of God to our team and the Union itself. And with all the diligent sacrifices by the Union and memories to cherish, I believe the ladder of success has been built and has inspired more to press forward. I want to thank the 2021 Newsletter team for their tireless effort in making our “Ganyia La Tathu” a remarkable blueprint and a dearly anticipated project in our community. Thank you to all my fellow Executives for making an impact in leading noteworthy events and a successful year 2021. None of it would have been possible without your associate efforts. May your new learned skills and sacrifices ever flourish for our Union and beyond.

ISSUE 2

Darker it may seem for some of us students, yet and all, no matter how little you think of the light you possess, let it shine, for the darker the dark, the brighter your aspirations will spark! You got a lot of light from a little light! And may it guide us to thrive! As excited with hopeful aspirations for what we have planned for 2022, and in affirmation with our motto, we seek the support of every child and family to lend their helping hand to restore our community of diversity with dignity and integrity. For that is where our strength lies. Let us aim for everyone to progressively do well and provide equal opportunity to all including women. Our Union is a flawless inspiration for the equal participation of women and their active role. Past years have brought about unprecedented changes especially to parents, teachers, and students alike. In spite of it all, we have overcome the fears and continue to move forward with unconditional hope. With this zeal, let's continue to press forward together. In conclusion, I would like to quote Arthur Ashe, I quote and unquote “Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.” Let us be ‘Ever Better, Ever Higher’. Long live CTCSU!

ROLE OF SUNDAY SCHOOL IN STUDENTS' LIVES Proverbs 16:3 says "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans."

Sunday School is the foremost place for learning the principles of the Christian religion and the Bible. It is a place where children are beginning their search for learning, growing, and serving in Christ. It also acts as a safe place where children create strong ties and friendships with peers and with Jesus. Children attending Sunday School are instilled with moral values to become responsible leaders. They are less inclined to experiment with drugs, alcohol, or tobacco and have a higher tendency to value religion, education, and family. It is important for students to study the word of God because it is our Spiritual GPS for living a faithful Christian life.

WEYO-U RHAKHO Superintendent Sunday School Department Chizami Town Baptist Church.

Wisdom is the most precious gift you can ever have. Always desire to grow in knowledge because it will never leave your side. As Eccl. 10:10 says " If the axe is dull and he does not sharpen its edge, then he must exert more strength. Wisdom has more advantage of giving more success", one must sharpen one's knowledge and wisdom by seeking the Lord so as to excel in life. A child is a gift entrusted by God to parents, therefore, children have an obligation to obey and respect their parents which is the command from God (Eph 6:1-2). The word 'Respect' is a verb, and that means it requires the right action. Obedience is also an act of glorifying God. One also must remember that obedience is a quality of character that determines one's future.

WISDOM INPUTS

Interview with Mrs. Eneingulo-u Lasuh Vero 1. As a working mother, tell us how you balance work and life responsibilities. Most part of my day is spent at my workplace, so, in order to make up for the lost time being apart, I try to take along my family even when running errands or doing other responsibilities like going to market, attending social activities, etc. I also try to maintain family quality time regularly. Before the kids go to bed, we come together to share our thoughts, respond to the wildest queries of the kids and pray together. After they sleep, the Assignments and Homework starts. 2. What has been the most significant barrier in your MRS. ENEINGULO-U LASUH VERO career? VICE PRINCIPAL Managing multiple commitments is a challenge at a moment. EASTERN CHRISTIAN COLLEGE DIMAPUR 3. Tell us about the measures that you practice to "Social media is a useful servant but overcome barriers. a dangerous master, so use it wisely." I made a decision to have trained and loving people to take care of my kids when I am at work so I opened up a play-school and let them be with people and staff whom I know I can trust and let my kids be in the best place possible. That is how a lot of stress has been avoided. Above all, I have a good support system - my family, especially my husband. 4. Any role model or mentor you have as a student. I have no specific person to name, but my family and many of my friends have been an inspiration that helped me to grow in many ways. 5. What is the key factor that has helped you to be successful? Family support, Hard work and constant prayer has helped me so far. 6. What advice would you give to the students of today's generation? Interact with teachers and mentors often, respect elders, study hard, sleep well, and know that social media is a useful servant but a dangerous master, so use it wisely. 7. With the holidays approaching, would you like to give any suggestions/advice to students that can help them have a productive holiday? Spend time wisely, have quality time with family and continue to keep in touch with books. Also, a new variant of Corona Virus, Omicron is here so continue to maintain SOPs. Avoid shaking hands, wear mask and stay safe. 9. Any advice for the parents? A child's behavior is very much influenced and affected by the upbringing in a home. It stays with him or her even long after he or she leaves the parents. Therefore, try to give a sense of security with positive influence and lots of Love

The Art of Making

TRADITIONAL Grass-cloak (Enhi)

MRS NEIKHETSO-U T. MERO

WHAT IS IT? It is a Cloak or a coat made out of Date Palm leaves. It is worn by cultivators to protect themselves from harsh weather while working in the fields.

PROCESS & USES Harvest the green leaves. Dry them in the Sun for 2-3 days. Split the leaves and soak overnight in the water or for few hours before knitting. It is knitted using a traditional wool stand. Two leaves are twisted together to knit. One hand holds the ends of the leaves and the other twists it by rolling it over one's thigh. It creates a beautiful and strong pattern on the inner side of the cloak. The pattern differs slightly depending on the creativity of the knitter. IMPORTANCE In the olden days, umbrellas and plastic sheets were not available, hence farmers wear the Grass Cloak to protect themselves from Rain and Sun while working in the fields. Rain cannot penetrate it hence it keeps the body dry on a rainy day. And as it is made from natural grass it keeps the body cool on a hot sunny day. Small grass cloaks are also made for decorative purposes. It is essential for the present generation to learn the art of knitting a grass cloak. We should carry on the tradition despite modern-day clothing and pass on to the future generations.

THINGS TO REMEMBER.

Eneiwulo L. Mero Class 4, Sacred Heart Hr. Sec. School

Winter

ISSUE 2

Winter Winter Winter

Cuckoo cries morning winter

Is not the one whispering shivers.

But echo through the hills

Feels the cold winter chill

With its dew drops-

Showering the trees and country

All oak trees and pine leaves fall naked

Staining the countryside with grey

Stealing the summer sun makes very gay.

You seem to have lost in thoughts

Or have you forgotten to think about-

In your arms I lay (snowdrop)

Demand nothing but to make hay

As my heart withered-

I must ask, when will you drift?

To give me back the summer sun.

Story of The Man, The Tiger and The Demon Translated by Melite-u Chirhah & Metsou Chirhah In the beginning, man, tiger and demon were living together. They had an aged mother to take care of. The three of them took turns to look after their mother when the other two set out into the jungle in search for food. When it is the man’s turn, the mother is found clean, healthy, happy and well kept. However when the tiger took its turn, the tiger continued pestering about the parts to eat when she dies and the mother was found exhausted and dirty in the evening. The tiger always grumbled and snarled at anything and gave trouble to everyone. When it the demon’s turn the mother was found sickly and tired.

Before her death, the mother requested the demon and the man to be by her side when she passes. One day the mother passed away when the tiger was away. To prevent the tiger in consuming the corpse, the man and the demon buried the mother beneath the fireplace. When the tiger returned and asked for the mother, the demon and the man replied that their mother had died a long time ago, to which the tiger refused to believe and searched the house. But since the demon and the man were cooking in the fireplace, the tiger could not find her body. After the death of the mother, they decided to part ways for the good of all. The demon said to the tiger, ‘ since you are the older one among us, you shall live in the woods.’ And to the man,’ you are young, you live in the inhabited area.’ But the tiger refused saying,’ No! My will.’ At which the demon suggested on a competition the tiger and the man. The competition was to throw stones and the one who threw the furthest wins. The demon gave the tiger a round, heavy pebble while he handed the man a flat and light pebble. The man won, but the tiger was not pleased with the outcome and so he demanded to compete in a race. The demon suggested the one who touches the grass bundle tied up on the other side first be deemed the winner. The demon then handed the man a crossbow, and when he shouted, ’CHO!’ indicating the start of the race, the man released the arrow, which reached the goal faster than the tiger. Still, the tiger refused to leave.

One fine day, as the tiger naps, the demon and the man attached a rattle on his tail and blew a trumpet behind his back which startled him and he ran as fast as his feet could carry him. The rattle attached on him caused him to run farther into the woods and he never returned. The demon and the man also decided to part ways. The man continued to live in their home whereas the demon ventured out to live in the cliffs. To this day, men continued to live in groups, tigers in the woods and demons in the cliffs. And it is not considered wrong to make a fireplace above a grave. The End.

Brief Highlight of Guest Speaker's Speech General Session Key Points

"Aspire to Inspire" also "Inspire to Aspire"

Discover Yourself. Knowing your strengths and weaknesses will give you direction in making decisions in academics as well as life in general. Do not compare yourselves to others. Everyone has different aspirations. Have role models in your lives. Not to imitate the physical appearance but the good qualities. Imitation kills the creativity within you. Accept yourself. Your original self is unique and beautiful.

Strive to bloom where you are planted. Do what you love and love what you do. Practice sharpens the skills and talents that you have. Assess yourself. Identify your strengths and weaknesses. Dream big yet realistic. Hard work is the key. In the present world, there is no place for mediocre. Determine to work hard to create a space for yourself. Be humble. A tree that bears the most fruits bends the lowest. Have respect for elders. Be optimistic towards life. Have a positive mindset and attitude. Have strong faith and believe that you are created to do something good. Be content with yourself and with what God has given you. There is a huge difference between "educated" and "literate" people. Education is an all-round development. It includes values and qualities that can be acquired without being literate. Therefore being literate without being educated is not enough.
