Roger Johnes’s house was built for over 25 years ago by a local contractor.

SITE USERS CONSIST OF 7 FAMILY MEMBER 5 ADULT, 2 TEENAGER

Other than family member, there also visitors who comes to the site to hang out with the family members. This site is residential area located in Kg. Menawo Laut This site surrounded by houses and right beside a road with a shed in front of it

The site is located beside a trunk road and there is a shed with wide open space on the other side

James’s house

The view from James’s house is quite direct to Roger’s home yard

Almost everyday Petrus’s family members sitting at porch of his house. Also, his family members sometimes turn on some music to listening and quite disturbing especially at night.

The house of back neighbour is quite far from the fence so it not really disturbing in term of noise. But there is a chicken coop near the fence.

View toward the front of the house The house have 2 levels floor. The ground floor is the living room and mainly made from brick and painted in red and white colour. The upper floor is only bedroom and it mainly made from wood also it not painted. Because of the house is very old, some part of the roof is not fully sealed so it will leak water when it raining. There also a crack on concrete wall because of Sabah earthquake in 2015.

The colour of the soil is quite dark which mean it is rich in organic matter and good for almost all tropical plant. The soil also retain water quite well.

Fauna There is 15 cats total that roaming in the site.

DESCRIPTION

Active

Most used area because it the focal area and most of activities were done here

Semi-active

Used mainly for walking and the user felt a little uncomfortable due to narrow area and it bushy

Passive

Rarely used because it very bushy and there many mosquitoes and the user felt itching and smelling chicken poop near the mango tree. Smell of chicken poop because there is a chicken coop at fence of back neighbour.

The primary arrival view has water puddle where the car park.

The view toward the lawn is surrounded by flora but it empty in the middle.

The view toward a pathway between house and storeroom is too direct from the road.

Due to no maintenance schedule, the back of the house is very bushy and not nice to look at.

The view from kitchen door is very bushy and the old chicken coop is already abandoned.

Under the mango tree is quite empty because it surrounded by overgrown vegetation.

There no visible path lead to back neighbour’s house because of the overgrown vegetation.

The arrangement of the vegetation is scattered which making it difficult to see the entrance.

Water could accumulate making it look like a pond when rainstorm. Should make the undulating surface as a water feature

THEME DESIGN OBJECTIVE

ISSUE • The site have inadequate facilities and attractive landscape elements. Therefore , decrease it functionality and not desirable to look at.

Attractive landscape design

Providing a variety of colour and softscape while maintaining the harmony with its surrounding.

Variety of facilities

Adding more facilities to increase the functionality of the site.

Various of activities

Providing a multi-purpose ,wide, hard surface area for user to do leisure activities.

Socialization

Create a focal area where permanent user and visitor can spend time together such as drinking tea/coffee.

Privacy

Propose a screening element near the fence to protect view and privacy from surrounding neighbour.

GOAL • Propose an attractive landscape design for the site which can provide variety of facilities and activities for user to enjoy especially for socialization and while maintaining privacy.

Rectilinear + Curvilinear

CONTEMPORARY TROPICAL GARDEN A contemporary tropical garden, also known as a 'modern tropical garden', can be defined by the balance of hardscape and softscape. The organic shape softscape working together with inorganic geometry hardscape to create a beautiful modern paradise.

SECRET GARDEN A sheltered, secluded or private area of the garden. Preferably enclosed or at least partially hidden from view.
