here’s been a lot of talk about recycling in the fashion industry lately, whether brands are launching their shiny new tech or launching their own take-back plans. But how much of our clothing is currently recycled? Surprisingly, that figure is less than one percent, according to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. Another 12 percent turns into less valuable products such as insulation material, mattress padding and fabrics.

Considering that an astonishing 100

billion pieces of clothing are produced worldwide each year, using old clothes to make new ones is not easy. That’s why upcycling, the practice of adding value to existing materials, has become very popular in recent years. But recycling, which typically involves mechanical or chemical decomposition of clothing, presents all sorts of challenges.

Paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, metal… Thanks to the recycling process, these materials not only protect nature, but also protect our pockets. Recycling also makes a great contribution to the country’s economy. In this way, the amount of foreign currency paid for imported scrap material is reduced and energy use is significantly reduced. Recycling of used paper that has lost its function significantly reduces costs such as air pollution, water pollution and water use. Meanwhile, according to researches, adding 1 ton of waste paper to pulp prevents 7-8 trees from being cut down.
