Fighting Style Water Breathing (Mizu no kokyū)

Personality Tanjiro is very kind by nature and has been described by others as having very gentle eyes and a compassionate persona. He exhibits a great deal of determination and will not give up once he has a goal to achieve; the best example of this being his relentless quest to find a cure for Nezuko. Even though he is relatively strong on his own, Tanjiro isn’t opposed to asking others for help when he needs it. He is very protective of his friends and even more so of his younger sister. However, despite his kind and understanding nature, Tanjiro does have a limit to his tolerance and has a distaste for rudeness and cowardice as he easily becomes annoyed by Zenitsu Agatsuma’s constant whining, and angered by Inosuke Hashibira’s barbaric actions. Tanjiro is direct and very honest, taking everyone’s words with sincerity and seriousness.

Upon hearing Tengen Uzui claim he is a god, he asked what area is he the god of. He has difficulty lying and doing so causes his face to contort severely, as his honest nature clashes with the insincerity of his words. Having grown up in the countryside of Japan,Tanjiro has no experience of life in large urban areas. During his missions to Asakusa and Yoshiwara, he stared in wonder at the bright lights enveloping the cities. He naively believed the Mugen train was

perhaps the land’s guardian spirit and, just like Inosuke, he does not know what a red-light district is. Under Tanjiro’s rather kind and friendly shell, is a person with a growing fire of rage and vengeance inside of them. This side of him leaks out when Tanjiro first confronts Muzan, ready to take out his sword and attack him. When Muzan escapes, Tanjiro releases his frustration and declares he will be the one to kill Muzan.

Taught to him by Sakonji Urokodaki, a previous Water Hashira and Water Breathing Cultivator, this was Tanjiro’s initial Breathing Style. He became extremely proficient in it, enabling him to take on two members of the Twelve Kizuki, namely Rui and Enmu. However, due to his body not being suited to Water Breathing’s techniques, Tanjiro decided to switch to the Hinokami Kagura as his main Breathing Style. Despite this, Tanjiro has not abandoned what he was taught, combining Water Breathing with the Hinokami Kagura, due to the strain Hinokami Kagura placed on his body, in order to have stronger strikes than when he used Water Breathing alone and move for longer periods than if he used Hinokami Kagura alone. He did this to save Hinatsuru from Gyutaro, and later used it once again during the Infinity Castle Arc to slay dozens of demons Hinokami Kagura (Hinokami Kagura) During his near-death experience in his battle with Rui, Tanjiro awakened this in a memory of his father teaching him t h i s Breathing Style. As his body was more suited to the Hinokami Kagura, he quickly overpowered the Lower Rank demon. However, the sheer force and fatigue it place on his untrained body caused him to collapse and weaken significantly when using it, thus he only saved it for last ditch attempts to beat his adversaries. After the Mugen Train Arc, Tanjiro trained more so that his body could take the strain of its techniques, and was capable of using multiple forms in succession in his battle against Daki, although the whiplash from doing so became quickly apparent. Still, through battling Hantengu and undergoing intense training during the Swordsmith Village Arc and the Hashira Training Arc, Tanjiro finally managed to master all the forms in the Hinokami Kagura, using it to its full potential against Akaza.

Fighting Style Thunder

ZENITSU AGATSUMA Personality Zenitsu comes off as a coward, as he often claims that he doesn’t have long to live due to the dangerous job of being a Demon Slayer. He also has rather low self-esteem despite his strength, even considering himself useless as seen when he couldn’t believe he had slain a demon and tricked himself into instead believing that it was Shoichi, even though the latter was a young child who didn’t possess any form of special demon-slaying ability.Zenitsu is in a constant state of fear and always cries and tries to run away at the sight of danger, claiming he wants to live a modest, normal life, instead of that of a Demon Slayer. Due to this, Zenitsu screams and shouts a lot, sometimes annoying the people around him. He is also

shown to be pessimistic at times, especially during the Hashira Training Arc where he lashed out at Tanjiro and Inosuke for viewing the training positively. However, despite these weaknesses, Zenitsu still wants to live up to the expectations others set up for him and will try his hardest when he needs to. He holds great respect and admiration towards his comrades and his deceased teacher, Jigoro Kuwajima, and his inner focus and drive in avenging him help to wash away his cowardice and second thoughts when he is in a pinch. Zenitsu also hates himself for how cowardly and incompetent he is, genuinely striving to better himself.

Breathing is a Breathing Style that mimics lightning, specifically swift strikes and movements akin to lightning ripping through the sky, and replicates it with the user’s movements, techniques and abilities. Most, if not all, known techniques and forms involve utilizing blinding speeds and immensely fast attacks to overwhelm the enemy in an instant. Users of Thunder Breathing also visualize themselves seemingly creating and manipulating lightning and electricity when unleashing its techniques. It has been remarked by Zenitsu Agatsuma that this Breathing Style focuses on channeling strength into the user’s legs, and maximizing the output of every single muscle and blood vessel in them.Users also mimic lightning to such high fidelity that they cause the air to vibrate when poised to unleash a technique and create immensely loud sounds akin to thunder with their mere footsteps. This Breathing Style is also very reminiscent of a swordsmanship style practiced and utilized in real life known as Iaijutsu, a famous quick-draw sword technique. This

created from one of Yoriichi Tsugikuni’s students who attempted to learn Sun Breathing, but due to not being as innately powerful as Yoriichi, they were instead taught an alternated personalized Breathing Style that focused on their individual strengths and weaknesses, which eventually evolved into Thunder Breathing.

Type of Breathing First Form: Thunderclap and Flash (Ichi no kata: Hekireki Issen) The user unsheathes their katana, dashes forward at blinding speeds and decapitates their opponent faster than they can react, before sheathing it back. This technique is extremely reminiscent of Iaijutsu and its movements are described to be akin to “lightning ripping through the air”. Sixfold (Rokuren) An extension of the Thunderclap and Flash technique created by Zenitsu. The user performs Thunderclap and Flash six times in quick succession while slightly augmenting the power and speed of his dashes.

Eightfold (Hachiren) An extension of the Thunderclap and Flash technique created by Zenitsu. The user performs Thunderclap and Flash eight times in quick succession while slightly augmenting the power and speed of his dashes. God Speed (Shinsoku) An extension of the Thunderclap and Flash technique created by Zenitsu. The user performs Thunderclap and Flash while greatly augmenting the speed of the technique. During the first display of this technique, an unconscious Zenitsu remarked that he mustn’t perform this technique more than 2 times, otherwise his legs would be rendered useless due to muscle fatigue and exhaustion. However, during the battle against Muzan Kibutsuji, Zenitsu has shown improvement in the proficiency of this technique, allowing him to use it more than 2 times while still maintaining the power and speed of the t e c h n i q u e.

Inosuke is an extremely short-tempered and proud young man who always likes to think he is the strongest fighter in a situation, constantly challenging most people he comes across and wanting others to respect and praise him for his skill. This often leads him into unnecessary danger, since he tends to overestimate his abilities in comparison to who he’s fighting and refuses to accept when he’s been defeated, which can be seen when Giyu Tomioka has to tie him up after his fight with the Father Spider Demon to prevent him challenging the Hashira to a fight while still severely injured from his previous battle.[5] This constant wanting to be the best can also cause Inosuke to be very provocative, as he often tries to goad others, most prominently Tanjiro Kamado, into fighting him, although in the case of the latter he usually fails due to Tanjiro’s obliviously kind nature. Inosuke possesses a rather vengeful side to his personality, especially when the people he cares about get harmed. He refused to help the injured train engineer who stabbed Tanjiro and was convinced he was right in letting him die, only helping him when Tanjiro begged Inosuke to do so and forgave the man. He immediately attacked Doma upon learning he killed and devoured Shinobu and he became truly angered when he found out Doma was also the one who orphaned him, challenging the Upper Moon by himself and

declaring he would create hell for him. Most notably, he challenged Muzan directly and demanded he atone himself by dying for mutilating and nearly kiling all the other Demon Slayers. Due to him having been raised by boars, Inosuke has also been shown to possess little understanding of normal human interaction, at least at the time of his debut, as he seems to frequently assume that people who approach him want to attack him and doesn’t appear to understand the kindness others show him. He can’t read or write, and struggles to say peoples names right, saying Monchiro instead of Tanjiro, or Monitsu instead of Zenitsu. He can be very rude, without the intention, and treating everyone as an enemy at first.

This technique was so strong that Inosuke Hashibira could sense all the demons spread out through a whole mountain. Eighth Fang: Explosive Rush (Hachi no kiba: Bakuretsu Mōshin) The user charges towards their opponent at blinding speeds while swinging both their swords.

Fighting Style

Ninth Fang: Extending Bendy Slash (Ku no kiba: Shin - Unerizaki) The user dislocates the joints of their arm to increase the range of their attack and unleashes a single strike.

Beast Breathing (Kedamono no kokyū): A Breathing Style distantly derived from Wind Breathing and the personal creation of Inosuke Hashibira himself after living in the mountains and fighting for survival. It also seems to take inspirations from the wild boars that he grew up

GIYU TOMIOKA WATER HASHIRA

Abilities Overall Abilities: As a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Giyu is a very powerful and skilled combatant.From the beginning, Giyu showed how much he outclassed Tanjiro and his friends, being able to effortlessly capture Nezuko from him and later knocked him unconscious in a single blow. Later, he was able to easily defeat the Father Spider Demon in his transformed state and Rui, Lower Rank Five, something Tanjiro and Inosuke respectively failed to accomplish. He also fought equally against fellow Hashira Sanemi in a sparring match. Giyu was also shown easily beating dozens of demons equal to that of the Lower Ranks of the Twelve Kizuki. Giyu is also an incredible teammate able to grasp their intentions and work in tandem with it. During his fight against Akaza, Upper Rank Three, he was able to hold on his own for some time and like Kyojuro, Akaza is amazed by Giyu’s skills to the point that he offers to transform the Hashira into demon, something Akaza only asks of the most worthy of his opponents. When he first awakened his mark, Giyu was able to momentarily overpower the Upper Rank demon too, repeatedly cutting his arms, slicing his body and even cutting his neck. Akaza even states that he has not fought a Water Hashira as skilled as Giyu in fifty years.When he encountered the Demon King Muzan Kibutsuji, Giyu was able to hold him off for a decent amount of time along with Tanjiro and later played a pivotal role in his defeat. Moreover, after Tanjiro became a demon, Giyu was the first to act and fend him off, defending Zenitsu and a

kakushi while fighting evenly with him, long enough for him to be turned back to a human. Demon Slayer Mark: During his battle against Akaza, Giyu awakens his Demon Slayer Mark, appearing as a fluid-water like design on his left cheek, complementing his Breathing Style, Water Breathing.[19] When activated, he gains a tremendous increase in speed, precision, and endurance to the point where he could engage in a long battle against the Upper Rank on even ground. Bright Red Nichirin Sword: During the fight against Muzan, Sanemi forcefully clashes his sword together with Giyu’s turning both of their blades temporarily red, which grants them the ability to hamper the enhanced regeneration of the Demon King, making their attacks much more effective and deadly. Immense Speed & Reflexes: Giyu possesses inhuman speed and reflexes, as shown when he took Nezuko away from Tanjiro’s grasps at blinding speeds, which took him several seconds to register. Later, he was able to hoist and tie Inosuke up to a tree before he even realized what happened, causing him to remark that he’s extremely fast. Giyu also easily caught up to Shinobu when she was pursuing Tanjiro. Giyu cut all of Rui’s threads and Akaza’s shockwaves so fast that it seemed like he didn’t move his arms at all. Furthermore, he blizted and decapitated Rui instantly.

Type of Breathing First Form: Water Surface Slash (Ichi no kata: Minamo Giri) The user generates enough momentum to create a powerful single concentrated slash. Second Form: Water Wheel (Ni no kata: Mizu Guruma) The user leaps and verticaly spins forward in the air while releasing a flowing attack in a circular motion. Third Form: Flowing Dance (San no kata: Ryūryū Mai) The user swings and bends their blade in a winding motion along with their body and dances in a flowing pattern, slicing everything in its path. Fourth Form: Striking Tide (Shi no kata: Uchishio) The user makes multiple consecutive slashes while twisting their body and sword in a flowing fashion to deliver multiple blows simultaneously. Fifth Form: Blessed Rain After the Drought (Go no kata: Kanten no Jiu) The user changes the grip on their sword and decapitates the opponent in a single flowing strike that causes little to no pain. It is a “sword strike of kindness” used when the enemy willingly surrenders. Sixth Form: Whirlpool (Roku no kata: Nejire Uzu) The user fiercely twists their upper and lower body, creating a whirlpool of air that cuts anything caught in it. Its effect and efficiently is enhanced underwater, where the user can draw water around their weapon to enhance their slashes. Seventh Form: Drop Ripple Thrust (Shichi no kata: Shizuku Hamon Tsuki) The user performs a fast and accurate stab, capable of reducing the impact of a moving target. Eighth Form: Waterfall Basin (Hachi no kata: Takitsubo) The user cuts the target vertically in a flowing motion which is most effective when they are falling downward. Ninth Form: Splashing Water Flow (Ku no kata: Suiryū Shibuki) The user changes their footwork in a way that minimizes the landing time and surface needed when landing, allowing the user to move without limits. Ideal when fighting in a place with no solid foothold.

8 Tenth Form: Constant Flux (Jū no kata: Seisei Ruten) The user performs a continuous flowing attack which seemingly takes the form of a water dragon that increases in strength and power with each rotation due to momentum. Eleventh Form: Dead Calm (Jū Ichi no kata: Nagi) A form of his own personal creation, the user ceases all body movements and enters a state of complete tranquility, deflecting, blocking and cutting any incoming attacks with imperceptible speed with his blade. However, its effectiveness is limited as fast and numerous attacks can break through.

Abilities Enhanced Hearing Tengen has a heightened sense of hearing similar to that of Zenitsu Agatsuma. This ability allows him to easily hear noises deep underground, and he uses it to immediately discern that there are channels of underground tunnels and caves directly beneath him when he’s looking for Tanjiro Kamado and Daki. He also uses his superhuman hearing the monitor all the activity in the Entertainment District in an attempt to find the location of the demons dwelling in the area. Tengen also used his hearing to discern whether people are still present on a floor in a building. Echolocation As an advanced application of his hearing, Tengen also possesses echolocation. When trying to find the location of a battle underground, he analyzed the sounds reflected and resonated through the air by the walls of the caverns, and accurately locates and is even able to guess the number of people inside the tunnels by listening to the sound bouncing from their physical bodies. Musical Score (Fumen) A technique Tengen developed using his heightened sense of hearing to work in conjunction with his Sound Breathing, where he analyzes combat maneuvers and deconstructs the rhythm of his enemies’ attacks into sound and reads them like sheet music to the point every fight becomes like a song. This allows Tengen to gain an understanding of his opponent’s habits as well as their blind spots, giving him an edge against them. However, one drawback is that it takes a long time for Tengen to complete his score, potentially leaving him in the open. Immense Speed & Reflexes Tengen is the fastest runner out of all the Hashira, and thus possesses tremendous levels of speed and reflexes, often shown when he moves so fast he appears to teleport. His speed also far surpasses that of Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke, who were unable to keep up, let alone perceive, the Hashira’s blisteringly quick movements. Most notably, Tengen was fast enough to behead Daki, an Upper Rank demon, before she could even register what had happened. Moreover, he could fend off both Daki and the true Upper Rank Six, Gyutaro, despite being held back by a deadly poison that would’ve killed someone instantly under normal circumstances.

Type of Breathing Sound Breathing (Oto no kokyū) A Breathing Style that Tengen created himself. Sound Breathing seemingly combines Tengen’s heightened sense of hearing, his Musical Score (Fumen) technique, his shinobi expertise as well as his dual Nichirin cleavers and his anti-demon bombs. First Form: Roar (Ichi no kata: Todoroki) The user lifts their twin swords above their head and slams them down with great force whilst simultaneously creating an explosion with his bombs to deal massive physical damage, causing a loud sound resembling thunder as a result Fourth Form: Constant Resounding Slashes (Shi no kata: Kyōzan Muken?) The user holds their swords apart and spins them rapidly in conjunction with releasing his bombs, creating massive explosions while defending themselves from attacks. Fifth Form: String Performance (Go no kata: Meigen Sōsō?) The user holds one of their swords with a reverse grip and spins the other using the chain that connects them. They couple this by also releasing numerous bombs to detonate, causing great explosions that deal massive physical damage.

Abilities

As a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Kyojuro was a very powerful and skilled combatant. Before he took his father’s place, Kyojuro was already shown to be an amazing fighter. He successfully avenged the death of the 9 Demon Slayers that died to the Flute Demon by himself and later managed to singlehandedly defeat Lower Rank Two, Hairo, who even appraised his swordsmanship before he died. Moreover, his father, Shinjuro Rengoku, stated that, after he stopped teaching his son, Kyojuro trained himself to become a Hashira by learning from the guide book of the Flame Breathing style, a book which only had 3 volumes. As another testament to his strength, even demons as strong as Upper Rank Three, Akaza and the fourth-strongest of the known demons, acknowledged Kyojuro’s strength. He even went as far as to offer to turn Kyojuro into a demon so he could surpass his human limits and become stronger, something he only offered to swordsmen whose abilities he believed were refined to their utmost. Akaza also complimented his battle spirit and stated that it is getting close to the “Realm of the Highest,” which implied that he was incredibly close to obtaining the Transparent World (Sukitōru Sekai) and the Selfless State (Muga no Kyōchi). Extrasensory Perception: Kyojuro had incredibly honed senses, such as when he was able to sense and perceive Akaza’s immense presence and demon aura which he uses to discern that he was an Upper Rank. Kyojuro was also capable of sensing demonic presences faster and more accurately than Tanjiro Kamado, who harbors an acute sense of smell, when he detected two demons right after another on a train before anyone else noticed. This ability also allowed him to precisely gauge the regenerative abilities and weaknesses of most demons, like Enmu. Kyojuro was also able to perceive Tanjiro’s injuries and torn blood vessel accurately, which allowed him to teach him how to plug up that wound and prevent him from dying of blood loss. Furthermore, he was able to detect malice in Enmu’s spells and prevented himself from getting incapacitated through detecting the malice of his spell.

Third Form: Blazing Universe (San no kata: Kien Banshō) The user swings their blade downwards in an arc. Fourth Form: Blooming Flame Undulation (Shi no kata: Sei En no Uneri?) The user swings their blade in a circular motion that can defend them from incoming attacks or decapitate multiple enemies at once. Fifth Form: Flame Tiger (Go no kata: Enko) The user performs a series of powerful sword slashes that seemingly takes the form of a flaming tiger. Ninth Form: Rengoku (Ku no kata: Ninth Form: Purgatory) A devastating dashing slash that the user initiates from a high stance, the technique had enough power to carve a deep impression that burnt the ground where it was unleashed. In the movie and anime adaptation, this technique seemingly took the form of a fiery Japanese dragon that envelopes the user while charging towards the target.
