ASYNCHRONOUS

Learning doesn’t necessarily happen at the same time for instructor and students; classwork often consists of independent reading, prerecorded video watching, and other tasks students complete on their own.

Zero Cost Textbooks

SYNCHRONOUS

Learning happens in real time between your instructor and your class either face-to-face, or via Canvas, Zoom, or other virtual spaces. Classwork deadlines are often scheduled on consistent days/ times, providing structure for those who prefer that.

LAKE TAHOE COMMUNITY COLLEGE SPRING 2023 - Page 13

UPDATED: 4/14/2023

Face-to-Face These are traditional courses that meet at set dates and times on campus. Please note that under certain emergency conditions, F2F classes will move to the EVE format.

Distance Education Traditional distance education classes that take place online through Canvas and do not meet at a set time.

Hybrid Hybrid classes include a combination of in-person meetings at specific days/times AND online activities. The online portion of the class may be synchronous or asynchronous.

Enhanced Virtual Education (EVE) EVE classes are offered online and use the Canvas system for base information and resources, but they also use Zoom as well as other technologies to provide more “real time” contact. They are intentionally designed for students who prefer a face-to-face classroom feel.

Internships are a student-earned worksite placement for on-the-job experience in positions directly related to their academic and career goals. An internship may be exploratory. Internship students must complete an application and be interviewed/selected by the instructor prior to the orientation. Student interns must have a good academic record and should have completed some of the courses required in their major. Here are the steps to get started: First, complete an application available online at ltcc.edu. Next, make an appointment to interview with instructor by calling ext. 703 or emailing [email protected]. Attend mandatory online orientation meeting (only after interviews and a confirmed internship). Each 50 hours of paid work equals one quarter unit. Each 40 hours of non-paid work equals one quarter unit. COREQUISITES: Students must be available to volunteer 4 to 24 hours per week (if paid, hours per week increase as outlined in the work experience program) for an approved business and must have an application on file each quarter enrolled. Applications are available online at www.ltcc.edu under academics. Internships can be on a paid or volunteer basis and students are encouraged to apply at least a month before the quarter begins.

FOR-132

For information and to RSVP for orientation, go to ltcc.edu/workexperience. General Work Experience is for students who are already employed in jobs not necessarily related to their educational goals. The program encourages participants to identify new and challenging objectives on the job and can result in improved relationships at work, increased visibility, and better work habits. Up to 5 work experience units may be earned per quarter. Each 50 hours of paid work equals one quarter unit. Each 40 hours of non-paid work equals one quarter unit. For more information and to enroll, students must attend the mandatory orientation (check the online schedule for dates/times). It is NOT necessary to meet with the instructor prior to orientation. COREQUISITES: Students must be available to work 4 to 40 hours per week for an approved business and must have an application on file each quarter enrolled. Transfer CSU only REG: Walk-in registration only.
