1. INTRODUCCIÓN Introduction Ella vive en un rancho en México con su familia donde son dueños de un viñedo grande y exitoso. Su padre ama la tierra y con frecuencia lleva a la pequeña Esperanza al campo para que recueste la cabeza en la tierra y escuche los latidos de su corazón. Su papá le dice a Esperanza que abriese la tierra. She lives on a ranch in Mexico with her family where they own a large, successful vineyard. Her father loves the earth and often takes little Esperanza into the fields to lay their heads down on the earth to hear its heartbeat.Su papá le dice a Esperanza que abriese la tierra.

2. LAS UVAS Grapes Las tres semanas pasan rápido y Esperanza sigue soñando despierta con su cumpleaños y todas las cosas divertidas que hará con su mejor amiga. El día antes de su cumpleaños, Esperanza accidentalmente se pincha el dedo con una espina de rosa, señal de mala suerte. Esperanza está muy emocionada por su cumpleaños. Pero llegan malas noticias: su papá murió. The three weeks pass by quickly and Esperanza continues daydreaming about her birthday and all the fun things she will do with her best friend.On the day before her birthday, Esperanza accidentally pricks her finger on a rose thorn, a sign of bad luck. Esperanza is so excited for her birthday.But bad news is coming her dad died.

3. LAS PAPAYAS Papayas Esperanza's Mom feels angry at Uncle Luis and Uncle Marco. And Uncle Luis wants to marry Esperanza's mom and Esperanza's mom felt angry. Also Uncle Luis is the owner of the land. La Mamá de Esperanza se siente enojada de tío Luis y de tío Marco.Y el tío Luis se quiere casar con la mama de esperanza y la mamá de esperanza se sintió enojada .Y también el tío Luis es el dueño de la tierra.

4. LOS HIGOS Figs Esperanza's house burned down. And Miguel went back into the house to bring Esperanza's abuela out of the house. Miguel came out of the house with abuela in his hands.So they have to move. La casa de Esperanza se quemó. Y Miguel volvió a entrar a la casa para sacar de la casa a la abuela de Esperanza. Esperanza tiene miedo de estar en un espacio reducido, pero Hortensia la distrae con recuerdos de cuando una vez se escondieron de los ladrones dentro de la casa del rancho metiéndose debajo de una cama.Esperanza se enojo que una niña tocó su muñeca.Y la hizo que llorara.

6. LOS MELONES Watermelon Esperanzas mom tells Esperanza that being rude to people because they're poor is like being rude to her friends Hortensia, Alfonso, and Miguel. She needs to cut it out, and quick. Esperanza feels ashamed and sits in the corner. The little peasant girl is still crying so esperanzas mom gets Esperanza to help her make a doll out of yarn. La mamá de Esperanza le dice a Esperanza que ser grosero con la gente porque es pobre es como ser grosero con sus amigos Hortensia, Alfonso y Miguel. Necesita cortarlo, y rápido. Esperanza se siente avergonzada y se sienta en un rincón. La pequeña campesina sigue llorando, así que la mamá de Esperanza pide a Esperanza que la ayude a hacer una muñeca con hilo.

plums.The dust storm is bad because the wind blows dust around and getting into the houses and that can last a long time and can also break glass and hurt someone.Esperanzas mom got sick and also got fever.Because esperanzas mom was so sick she could die. Los bebés tenían muchos pañales sucios por culpa de las ciruelas crudas. La tormenta de polvo es mala porque el viento arrastra polvo y se mete en las casas y eso puede durar mucho tiempo y también puede romper vidrios y lastimar a alguien. Esperanzas mom se enfermaro y también tiene fiebre. Porque la mamá de Esperanza estaba tan enferma que podría morir.

10. LAS PAPAS Potatoes Abuelita and esperanza knit their hairs into the blanket to show their love.The valley that symbolized esperanza that she was in this valley of her mom that was sick.Esperanza wanted to work because she wanted to pay/help her mom and also to bring abuelita to her mom.

Abuelita y Esperanza tejían sus cabellos en la cobija para mostrar su amor. El valle que simbolizaba esperanza que ella estaba en este valle de su mamá que estaba enferma. Esperanza quería trabajar porque quería pagar/ayudar a su mamá y también traer a abuelita a su mamá.

11. LOS AGUACATES Avocados Hortensia help Esperanzas hands feel better because she put avocado mixture on them.Esperanza was missing her mom laughing and knitting.No one can visit Esperanzas mom because she had pneumonia.It was hard for Esperanza to give Marta and her mom a ride because Marta was being rude to her.Miguel was so excited after talking the railroad because he can get a job. Hortensia ayudó a que las manos de Esperanza se sintieran mejor porque les puso una mezcla de aguacate. Esperanza extrañaba a su mamá riendo y tejiendo. Nadie puede visitar a la mamá de Esperanza porque tenía neumonía. ser grosero con ella. Miguel estaba tan emocionado después de hablar del ferrocarril porque puede conseguir un trabajo.

12. LOS ESPARRAGOS Asparagus Esperanza felt bad for working when the strike began because lots of families were starving.There also were other people that were working for pennis.There were armed guards protecting the workers because the strikers were threatening them.The strikers put razor blades, broken glass, snakes,and rats trying to hurt the workers.The immigration/police put strikers on the bus because they were causing problems.Esperanza didn’t tell the police that Marta was in the shed because she didn’t want them to take her mom.

Esperanza se sintió mal por trabajar cuando comenzó la huelga porque muchas familias pasaban hambre. También había otras personas que trabajaban por un centavo. Había guardias armados protegiendo a los trabajadores porque los huelguistas los amenazaban. Los huelguistas pusieron hojas de afeitar, vidrios rotos, serpientes y ratas tratando de lastimar a los trabajadores. Inmigración/policía puso huelguistas en el autobús porque estaban causando problemas. Esperanza no le dijo a la policía que Marta estaba en el cobertizo porque no quería que se llevaran a su mamá.

13. LOS DURAZNOS Peaches Isabel was praying so much because she really wanted to be queen of may at her school.Miguel was so muddy because he lost his job at the railroad to the men that were from Oklahoma and dug ditches.Americans treated Mexicans different because they thought that they were uneducated, good only for manual labor, unskilled, and also dirty poor.Esperanza comfort Isabel for her not being chosen for queen of may.Esperanza gave Isabel her doll that her dad gave to her for her birthday day. Isabel oraba mucho porque realmente quería ser reina de mayo en su escuela. Miguel estaba tan embarrado porque perdió su trabajo en el ferrocarril a manos de los hombres que eran de Oklahoma y cavaban zanjas. Los estadounidenses trataban a los mexicanos de manera diferente porque pensaban que ellos eran incultos, buenos solo para trabajos manuales, no calificados y también sucios pobres. Esperanza consuela a Isabel por no haber sido elegida para reina de mayo. Esperanza le dio a Isabel su muñeca que su papá le regaló el día de su cumpleaños.

14. LOS UVAS Grapes Miguel took Esperanzas money/saving.Miguel went and brought Abuelita for Esperanza.Esperanza said that it was okay that Miguel took her saving to get Abuelita because that was what she was saving for.Instead of the months in the years to help her remember when thing happened.Esperanza used Fruit and when it was harvested. Miguel tomó el dinero/ahorros de Esperanza. Miguel fue y trajo a Abuelita para Esperanza. Esperanza dijo que estaba bien que Miguel tomara sus ahorros para conseguir a Abuelita porque eso era para lo que estaba ahorrando. En lugar de los meses en los años para ayudarla a recordar cuándo ocurrió la cosa. Esperanza usó Fruta y cuando fue cosechada.

14. CONCLUSIÓN Conclusion I learned that you should always appreciate what you have because Esperanza what rich but selfish and she lost her house and money and had to move to Los Angeles. Aprendí que siempre debes apreciar lo que tienes porque Esperanza qué rica pero egoísta perdió su casa y su dinero y tuvo que mudarse a Los Ángeles.
