Hobbies for PreTeens/ teens in Mali.


Hobbies for Preteens/Teens In Mali Education is free for the kids over there from age 6-17. Education is Mandatory by law. Learn to fish, do forestry and help with farming. Kids catch fish for families. Farms rice, millet, corn, vegetables, and peanuts. Education is important for the kids.


Coming of age Traditions


Coming of Age Traditions Malian people are known for singing and dancing. Lots of food will be cooked for the tradition. Many traditions of occupations include fishing, farming, herding, crafts, and trade. Traditional music includes rock music. People participate in a tradition called Wassoulou where women perform music.


Common/ Traditional foods


Common/Traditional Foods Most people eat the food that is grown in farms. This includes sweet potatoes, corn, millet, rice, vegetables, and fruits. Many people grow goats, cattle, and sheep there, too. Many people go fishing and they catch quite the amount. The country’s delta regions are important fishing grounds. But many droughts there make it hard for them to fish


Customary Attire


Customary Attire Many people in Mali wear different sorts of things. The women wear a blouse and what is called a pagne. This is a length of cloth wrapped around the waist to make a skirt. The men wear what is called a zerebou, a long tunic over pants, and a boubou which is an embroidered robe. People wore this everyday in the blazing heat.


Religion


Religion More than 90 percent is muslim and a little of them is christian. Since Islam was founded close to Africa, most people in Mali are muslim there, due to Mansa Musa, and a little people are christian. Most government in Africa converted to a full-Islam country. Most people refused to be a Muslim and decided to go follow Christianity. But more Mosques are being built due to the Increase of Muslim Followers.


School Life


School Life Most schools in Mali do not have water. Education is very hard. It is very far away and you have to walk a long walk to get there. Some schools have wells for drinking water. Most people in schools are learning the language Arabic. Since it is a muslim country, people have to learn the language to understand the religion. Lots of schools in Africa teach Arabic to kids.


Popular music/Artist/Actors


Popular music/Artist/Actors Most music included a series of beats that were hard to note down but many people in Mali played it. Dancing was very common among the people and they used it to tell stories and express their feelings. There is an important instrument called a ngoni, that is a type of African instrument. Lots of people are interested in pottery and sculpting. They also made statues and woodcarvings.


Pre-teen/ Teen Social Life


Pre-Teen/Teen Social Life Lots of kids dance at local festivals. They participate in this because it is fun for them and most people in Mali like to dance. Some teens get married at a young age, and law permits the boys to have more than one wife. Most kids go to schools and learn and play. Many people like to play basketball. This sport is growing in popularity.
