MOBILITY DECEMBER 2022 20 Unlock the New Era of Mobile Accessories Market PANEL DISCUSSION 2 T oday mobile accessories from being functi onal devices are evolving into style statements. With people getti ng more health-sensiti ve, the smartwatches have seen big surge in demand from youth as well as grown ups. Over the last few years, India has become one of the biggest and fastest-growing smartphone markets globally. This in turn has led to the rapid growth of the mobile accessories segment. During the discussion, the industry experts shared their insights on the growing trends in accessories segment, changing consumer behaviour, how the accessories brands are positi oning themselves to meet the customer expectati ons and to face competi ti on and stay alive in the market. PANELISTS: Mr. Gopal Jeyaraj, Head of Sales at SAARC-Promate Technologies; Mr. Sandeep Sawhney, Business Head at Lyne Ventures; Mr. Amitabh Khurana, Intex; and Mr. Sujoy Roy, Business Head at RV Soluti ons. MODERATOR: Mr. Sukanta Dey, a B. Tech. from IIT Kharagpur and an MBA (Finance and Marketi ng) from IIM Kolkata Mr. Sukanta Dey: Today, there are a lot of opportuniti es in mobile accessories space in India. Mobile phones have become mini PCs. The accessories worn now also communicate status and personality. Compared to yesteryears, today, women are more inclined to use mobile accessories. The percentage of money people spend on accessories which have become ornamental in additi on to being functi onal has become an important component. Mr. Gopal Jeyaraj, Country Head - SAARC, Promate Technologies The mobile accessory market has emerged, and normally now it’s a lifestyle statement.” Customers nowadays prefer more innovati ve gadgets to save ti me, so mobile accessories have become a fashion statement. Moreover, the consumers are getti ng the mobile accessory elevated from ANC and then to TWS within one or two months, etc. This radical change in patt ern has given rise to a splurge in the mobile accessory market. The main strength of India is its populati on, and most of the brand should focus on online shopping. Moreover, the brands should formulate a strategy to focus and explore both online and offl ine, keeping in mind the margins, so as to build a strong ecosystem.

MOBILITY DECEMBER 2022 22 PANEL DISCUSSION 2 Gist of the Discussion: Mobile accessories segment sti ll off ers a lot of opportuniti es, where smartphones segment has got saturated. Today, smartwatches have captured almost 35% is of the mobile accessory market and is emerging. 10-15% products nowadays are sold online and brands need to focus and explore on both online and offl ine trade to maximise outputs. There is 5% return in industry and the awareness is important and it is very vital that the industry knows about it and tries to capitalize and encash it. Further, the mobile accessory segment is yet to be disrupted with a lot of functi onal devices, sports, medical for various segments of the market. Mr. Sandeep Sawhney, Business Head, LYNE Ventures Pvt Ltd Mr. Sandeep Sawhney: While launching our brand Lyne, we gave focus to packaging in additi on to providing valuable product. When developing specifi cati ons and packaging, we keep the customer’s tastes and needs in mind. We at Lyne are launching several new products in 2023and by January we will have 140 products in 10 categories like TWS, smartwatches, chargers, car chargers, and so on. It is criti cal that the consumer is sati sfi ed and receives good value for money. Our main mission is to give the customer value for money with a customer-centric approach.” Mr. Sujoy Roy, Country Manager, RV Soluti ons We at RV Soluti ons have been providing services and aft er-sales service support. However, we see that the return rati o is 5-6%, which is quite high. The segment has been augmented by a new trend: the product is becoming a commodity. Many brands initi ally focused on the Internet because there appeared to be a lot of potenti al in online business. We began with 40 super stockists and have grown to 5000 dealers, but the online channel has generated a lot of interest, and we will soon be doing both online and channel business. Generally, the market scenario is that its dealers have a capacity business of 30% of consumers who don’t have defects and reduce returns. There has been an increase of 11% YoY in the industry, which is looking at the GST. We should all work together to create margins and a win-win support system.” This is so because consumers have the convenience of a cash-on-delivery payment opti on and numerous discounts on a variety of products. The availability of distributi on channels also contributes to the growth of the Indian mobile phone accessories market. Mr. Amitabh Khurana, VP - Sales IT & Smart Accessories, Intex In today’s scenario, a new business is emerging through wireless charging. We are just going through models, and it’s imperati ve that we work on technology, for instance, for medical products and IT products, so we should work and come together so that more people can talk. A lot of corporate customers are purchasing these accessories. Smartwatches have a 25% market share of the total market, and the business will grow with the latest technology in the coming years.

The next step is to motivate the Indian manufacturers to foray into the international markets.
