The Terror Of Alderley The air turned black all around me. It was a very dark and soundless day. All day I travelled with my husband throughout the country with great enthusiasm and eagerness for our new house: Alderley. Today, I saw the first impression of Alderley. I could not understand how it was, I only had complete sadness in my soul. I told my husband with an anxiety that almost amounted to agony, " We have taken a very lamentable decision in greed of buying a castle for 10 dollars!" He replied with a healthy, earthly feeling ", No! What is it that is so fearful, so frightening in your view of Alderley?" I had no answer to the question. I finally took a step forward with all the bravery I had. Suddenly, an animal with fluffy fur, floppy ears, curly tails and spots rushed towards my husband. When it reached my husband's torch, the eyes of the animal shone like pearls. From it, I could identify the cute dog. He was continuously barking in cacophonic voices. The bark of the dog was terrifying. We continued walking towards Alderley. Alderley was a Victorian home. The base and grounds of the home were covered with rail tracks. It was covered with cold stone walls that were full of empty eye-like windows. Nature had come into her vicious form and encroached upon the garden with her long, tenacious fingers. The garden was completely choked with grass and moss. Alderley was very tall and massive. It seemed like an ancient castle.

3

The Terror Of Alderley We entered Alderley. After entering Alderley, I had a terrible feeling of anguish and terror. The lights were mystically on. I asked my husband mournfully, "Why are the lights on?" My husband replied with a laugh, " You silly, the lights must be on because the owner might want to welcome us."; I repeatedly told myself the same thing but couldn't digest this fact. The inside view of the castle was also scary and mystical. The staircase was infinite, the lights were sparkling, the carpet was completely red, the walls were painted white and had wallpapers of patterns, the hall was also well organised. It attracted my husband. Although, I had a very dismal feeling. I felt as if something was wrong with Alderley. The night was turning darker and colder. We thought of going to sleep to relax. While I was walking through the corridor, I was feeling colder and colder. The paintings present throughout the corridor were big and fascinating. In one of the paintings, I felt the character's eyes moving towards me. I was completely overwhelmed, and my heart started beating at 300 bpm. I got a feeling of a sickening heart which I could not control. I immediately shouted at my husband, " Look at that painting!" My husband replied "Which painting?" The next thing that happened to me shook my brain! I turned to see the painting but all I could see were those clean white walls. I dreaded with terror. I immediately ran to the bedroom and slept.

4

The Terror Of Alderley Brr! I woke up in a sudden shock. All I could see was the colour black surrounding me. There was no scope for any light. From this, I deduced that it is the middle of the night. I could hear a continuous noise brrr..brr.brrr.brrr. The noise came closer and closer, it became louder and scarier. I took a deep breath and got up to investigate this. I wish I had never gotten up but the human tendency of curiosity provoked me. I wasn't able to find any light. All I could do was use my senses to go forward. I was getting closer to the sound. I found a ray of light nearby. I rushed there with all the energy left in my body. I had never seen such paranormal activity but as they say, there is a first time for everything. I could see a small cavern where a lady was present. I couldn't even understand how the lady looked. As the feelings of dismay increased in my body, my senses themselves took me away from that place. I ran as fast as a cheetah without knowing the things kept ahead. I finally came to a stop when a beam of light made me see my surroundings. I spotted the basement of the castle. Although, the fact that my husband told me Alderley is 5-storeyed with no basement made me have goosebumps.

5

The Terror Of Alderley The basement of the castle was hollowed into several intricate cloisters. It was not easy for me to find another part that goes upstairs because of the anxiety I had at that moment. There was an awful silence throughout those areas. Many rooms and doors passed by as I was walking. There were blasts of wind occurring that shook the doors I passed. The sound of grating on rusty hinges re-echoed throughout the basement. I heard a loud voice that sounded like the opening of the door. I shuddered and recoiled heavily. I saw a shadow of some person. I thought that I heard the footsteps of some people. My blood curdled when I came to know it was the same lady. I could see that there was a shelf full of books behind. I slowly walked backwards. A book fell from my hand. The lady came running towards me with her lamp. I thought that it was my end. Although she retreated precipitately after seeing me. She was advanced from the sea of faces, tall and gaunt. She was dressed in complete deep black accessories. Her cheekbones were prominent and great. Her hollow eyes made her look like a skull. She badly terrified me. She came towards me and held my hand with dignity. When she took my hand, I felt her hand limp and heavy, deathly cold. I felt a very bad vibe after touching her. I ran as fast as I could and somehow approached my husband.

6

The Terror Of Alderley I woke my husband up. I narrated this whole incident to him. His face turned pale after I told him. He replied " I feel that this time you are correct. There is something wrong with this place!" I narrated the incident to the lady. After I said this he took a deep breath. He replied, " That might be the house mistress." I took a deep breath after hearing this. My husband told me with an urgent feeling "I am going to talk to the house mistress." I told my husband repeatedly to wait but he did not listen. He vanished into the darkness. I felt very scared alone. I sat on the bed and did not move. I continuously prayed for the well-being of my husband. After some time, my husband came with the house mistress. I saw him coming from the darkness. At first, I rejoiced. Although the expression on their face was pale like a rotten fruit. I could see lots of wrinkles and stress on their faces. This made me very fearful. I asked them, " What happened?" My husband replied ", I found the house mistress outside the room. She was also looking for us. Both of us went to check upstairs. Although there are unlimited floors in this house, any room is at any place and the colour of the walls has changed to black!" This made me very anxious and I got completely frightened. I started shivering with fear. The house mistress revealed ", Our family has been guarding this castle since ancient times to protect the people living from the gothic elements of the castle."

7

The Terror Of Alderley All of us were filled with fearful. The clock suddenly stopped at 3 AM. It started ringing with a huge bang that made us more anxious. The three of us were the only three people left, living in the castle. We ran outside and made a plan of burning the castle. I burnt the castle and the others kept the car ready. The castle burnt into ashes. This scene was the most horrifying scene of my life. The warm fire almost burnt us. I ran into the car. We went as far as we could to another city. These were the most horrifying days ever. I will never forget the events that took place in Alderley. Whenever I remember the events of Alderley, I call the priest to keep prayer at our new castle: Manderley!............

The Frozen Education I woke up with a bang. My pet goat woke me up. The air was all black. My parents were in deep sleep. At that time, waking my parents would have brought no benefit to me. That is why I got up and took a deep breath. At that time, the god of winter was reigning. Chills and cold air winds were occurring that made me have goosebumps. I rushed through my daily routine and got ready for school. It was 5 AM, and I had to leave for school. There was only black and misty fog ahead of me. All I could be on was my 6th sense. I was lonely and had bad vibes in my mind. The big sac on my back made it difficult to walk. My feet became as cold as ice and chilled to the bone. The wind was whipping through the creaking trees and groaning like an old rocking chair. The sound I could only hear was my footsteps. Suddenly, I heard a sound that sounded like footsteps. I shuddered and recoiled impatiently. I started to assume it was the sound of a wild bear. I shivered. I began to have thoughts like I would lose my life. Although, I heard a voice "Hello!" I calmed myself down by identifying him as my friend Sam. I replied "Hi Sam! You almost scared me. I thought a bear was coming because of the black air around us." Sam laughed. I said "Our school should provide us with bus facility . For reaching from Zanskar to Padung it only takes half an hour. Although, by walking it takes a lot of time.", Sam replied, ",Our miser school will never do that!" I laughed. There were multiple lakes, houses, and mountains that passed by. Finally, we reached school.

9

The Frozen Education We reached that old building with gates, black pillars and walls around it. That building is painted so pale that it feels like a junkyard. Although, today something was wrong. There was complete silence. I asked Sam, " Don't you think that school is very silent today?" Sam replied "Yes! Let us go to our class." We both went to the class. We could read a banner outside the class that said CLOSED. The both of us became very confused about the situation. The place where we exchange ideas and learn under one roof and from the confines of one common area was closed! Sam asked me, " Do you have any idea why the school is shut?" I replied "No. Let's look around." We looked around extensively throughout the school. In the canteen, we found a newspaper lying down. Sam read ",The pandemic records 29,000 cases causing schools to shut from today." Both of us became very sad and returned home. We passed again through those lakes, roads and mountains to reach home. The next day, I woke up. As I knew the schools were shut, I went to Sam's house to know about the future of our education. Sam said ", I have heard that various schools are having online classes for students. Although our school won't be able to have these classes because of the money needed." I replied, " I wish we had a mobile phone to attend some sort of online classes." Sam became sad. I returned to my house. When we are born, we are the result of four elements in which we have no choice: our mother, our father, our siblings and the place we are born. What else is there? The passion that motivates us. My passion was lifelong education. This completely clattered as a result of the lockdown. The cheering voices of the school, the teacher's teaching and punctuality shattered into pieces. The school which we used to hate due to its miserliness became our favourite.

10

The Frozen Education Days passed by. These days turned into months and months turned into years. There was no scope of education that we could identify. Until 2022, two years of no education had passed by. Although, today came the first day of school. I rejoiced with all the pleasure I had to go to school. I hope that this situation never happens ever again later.......

Darkness Fills The Air Darkness fills the air Blinding my eyesight I have lost my every flair Anticipating for the glowing light to retain me From my own fight I have no clue what my fate stores for me Waiting for the right time Neither do I know what stores for thee Expecting them to come near me, while their ankles chime Reminiscing the time we spent While the moments fly Maybe that's what our precious moments meant But then sometimes I deny

Our evergreen story could have survived all the shades It's a pity, that it had to fade

12

Bacha Posh “Aisha”, “run” my ammi screamed ignoring the ramifications. I with all the motivation that was left inside me sprinted towards no defined destination, nevertheless my efforts went into vain when the Taliban officers caught me and dragged me ruthlessly by my hand. Tears unleashed through my eyes, everything was over. “What had I done that I have to receive such harsh punishment, all I ever wanted was the freedom to gain education freely just like all the boys in my locality do.” I said with all the stored courage I had, the taliban officers began laughing hysterically with no hope of a reply, suddenly one officer squeezed my cheeks and yelled in a terrifying tone “you shameful girl, you lower the dignity of Islamic women as well as the Afghan culture, you have no room to live in this dignified world”, I remained silent through the rest of my journey while the tyrannous officers left no chance unturned to insult and abuse me. The befitting words could not escape my numb mouth, though my mind screamed and shouted as if a despondent and a pyrrhic battle had just started. I had envisioned this day, but all the caution and preparedness had been of no use as the fear and horror overcame it. As the saying converses; life is replayed once you come near death, I could finally experience it.

13

Bacha Posh I was born on 13 March 2006 in an Afghani family, we reside in the Logar province near the capital Kabul. Me, my abbu, my ammi and my elder sister Asal, lived together in a petite but cheerful house. My abbu always encouraged and motivated me to pursue education; as he believes it is a priceless skill and also something which he could never possess, my parents are uneducated just like most of the population in Afghanistan, they could never afford education because of the Taliban and their conservative regiment, and eventually my abbu became a cobbler while my ammi became a housewife. On the other hand my sister Asal was a teacher in a government school. Though our family couldn't earn much, we were fulfilled and satisfied with what we had. Who knew, our worlds would turn upside down, what we assumed was an ordinary day was much greater than what we had thought……..

14

Bacha Posh

I can never forget August 14 2021; the day the Taliban commenced their capture with the terrifying sounds of the pistol and blaring sounds of the announcements being made via the humongous speakers, the villagers were mumbling amongst themselves when an alarming shout caused pin drop silence, the shout belonged to a very dominant looking Taliban officer, he continued; “From today onwards, the almighty and god sent Taliban will rule this province, we order you to adhere to the rules which are as follows: 1] Women and girls should always cover themselves. 2] Women and girls are expected to be accompanied by a male companion. 3] Women and girls are barred from attending schools and universities after primary school. These three rules left me devastated, I had passed primary education and wanted to continue my education further. I had my own set of dreams; were they so fragile that they shattered into pieces just by these simple phrases. I ran to my room, my abbu noticed this and soon came to console me.

15

Bacha Posh “Why are you crying? Are you worried after hearing the words of the officer?” he asked while gently wiping my tears. “Yes abbu, why can't I pursue education, why are only the boys allowed, why abbu why!!” I reverted while facing both the emotion of anger as well as fear, I could sense the grief in his eyes trying to find a ray of hope in the midst of pitch darkness while trying his best to find a suitable reply. My sister and ammi who observed this conversation, soon joined us to provide comfort. “Only if we were given the chance to change our genders, we would enjoy the same freedom.” said Asal with dejected eyes, “What if I become a bacha posh, I will change my gender and that way I can access education just like my fellow peers.” I said with hope in my eyes. “Are you out of your mind!!, do you realize the consequences, you can only become a bacha posh till you reach puberty, you are an adolescent and if you become a bacha posh the Taliban will catch you.” yelled my worried ammi. “I do realize the consequences ammi but it's better to take some action rather than just sitting at home, I really want to become a learned person.” I replied, trying to persuade her. “But-” I interfered and said “You don't need to worry ammi, I give you my word, I will return and grow safe and sound”. The same evening Asal gave me a makeover that made me look more believable. I also wore clothes meant for boys. I also tried changing my documents for a more believable act and just hoped everything would go according to plan and decided to go with the name ‘Ahmed’.

16

Bacha Posh I woke up before time on my first day of school because of eagerness. I could finally attend school!!. I would be lying if I said I was only excited to gain education, I wanted to learn the difference of capability between a boy and a girl and soon realized that our minds were like a trapped bird in a sturdy cage of society preventing the mind to explore beyond its capability, the mind eventually became lethargic because of less efforts and soon the liveliness and creativity of the mind died, later these minds continue the everlasting caging of fresh and lively minds into a small cage, and the cycle repeats.

“Please dont tell this to anyone, I beg you Faisal!” I mumbled after a fellow classmate of mine got to know of my real identity, he giggled and soon ran away with my actual documentation. Faisal was the son of a barber in Taliban and hence nurtured ideologies which were completely opposite of mine, we always were at each other's neck and would find chances to sabotage each other, but god knows how he learned my identity. I sprinted towards him but they were of no actual help as he reached his destination. My future had become clearer, I was going to get executed as I did not abide by the laws. As each second passed, I would feel much worse about my destiny and my dreams.

17

Bacha Posh I quickly got out of my rally of thoughts to observe my ammi screaming “Aisha”, “run”, and I soon understood what it exactly meant, THE TALIBAN HAD COME. I was eventually caught by the officers and brought to the current situation. My dilemma was disturbed when the bullets of a pistol rested on the Taliban officer's head. I stood in the middle of the street with nowhere to go…………..

Corona War

21

Why did I feel that way? When the sun shined and fields go wild, I always felt a sigh of relief as a child. When I saw you that day, Why did I feel that way? I’ve always admired the sea coast, As it made me safely lost. When I spoke to you that day, Why did I feel that way?

As a child when games were not enough to satisfy, I always looked for the rain in the sky. When I didn't hear you that day, Why did I feel that way? I always knew that heart beats, And I'll be dead when it cheats. When that pink smile made me miss a heartbeat that day, Why did I feel that way?

22

Why did I feel that way?

I admired the beauty of the tree which is tall, I have been looking through the window of my hall. When I saw that curl on your face that day, Why did I feel that way? I have heard and seen it too, How people meet and get glued When I met you that day, Why did I feel that way? If possible, I would like to know. Tell me whether you can show, The feelings that is high above, Can it be called pure love?

23

A Mother's Promise “I will always be with you, my child” were the last words my Mother said before dying of some medical disease.I didn’t really understand anything that was happening, but when she passed I saw her again one last time, before she faded away with the silent sound of the heart monitor alerting that the heart stopped beating. The next morning, I woke up and called my mother. I waited… I waited… But the cold silence reminded me that I'm now alone. The next sound I heard were the sounds of the wooden doors of my room, ‘KnockKnock', “Open up dear”, “Huh” I thought to myself, “Who is behind the door? Is it my Father? No it can’t be, he wouldn't come back” Thoughts flushed into my head as if I was in some form of a Gothic Literature story, till I asked calmly and hesitantly, “Who is it” I asked in a bit of a scared voice. “Who do you think it is silly, you just called me” the mysterious voice utters. My head began to think who I called out to, then realized…. “M-Mom?” I asked politely. “Yes, Now open the door”. Once I opened the door I saw her, fully revived from the dead, I hugged her and somehow couldn't feel the same warmth but didn't care since she was standing in front of me.

24

A Mother's Promise Then my Mother said “We should get on the train, We are late”, “Train? Late? What are you talking about Mom” I said hastily. “We are going to go visit your grandparents of course” she says, I was excited, then I remembered, My grandparents also had died not too long ago, after remembering this I asked myself how was it possible that my mother is back to life and now seemingly also my Grandparents! The idea of me seeing dead people and communicating with them haunted me to my very core. I was scared, yet I was still curious, what could this power achieve, to what lengths it can go to, I was still very happy that my mother was with me but it still was a bit shocking what I thought had happened.

So I packed my stuff and went with my mom to the nearby railway station, though it looked abandoned. I did not question it much ever before, but now I started questioning it. Whilst on the way to the Railway station, I overheard some kids and their parents whispering to each other about some weird girl that was passing by with her hand kept at such a place as if someone were holding it, I ignored their comments thinking either it was someone else or they were just trying to get my attention somehow. Though their comments were the first to come out of many on my shivering journey. We got to the railway system and saw a green train, When I looked at my mom, I couldn’t find her for a second, started to think I lost her, I closed my eyes and believed repeatedly that my mom was in front of me, I opened my eyes and saw my mother’s beautiful blue lavish eyes and her smile which made anyone feel safe.

25

A Mother's Promise I took all my luggage and almost boarded the train, then when I kept one of my bags in the train, it seemingly passed through it fully as if it were invisible. When I tried to pick up my bag which had fallen near some train tracks I quickly jumped down on the train tracks and got back up. While getting up though, I asked my mother for help in getting up. She tried but then my hand passed right through her. Soon everything turned dark and gloomy, the moon looked like it was going to fall, the clouds were starting to rain and the train was about to start its engine. My mother got on the train but when I tried I almost slipped right off of it. I thought that was it. My mother is gone and I am about to get injured but then at a tremendous speed a boy caught me and pulled me up with his hand. “Thank you for helping me. I can’t thank you enough” I said, The rain stopped right then and there and the moon went back to its normal position. The boy who saved me was smiling and lended me his coat, since he could see I was cold from the rain that happened suddenly for a few minutes. I saw the train leave and all I could see behind was the mist and my mother’s eyes which from their lavish blue turned into blood red and disappeared… I was frightened at what I saw, but then the boy asked me what I was looking for and why I jumped on the train tracks. I told the boy that I didn’t just jump on the train tracks, I told him that I tried getting on the train but then slipped and fell right before I could get on, The boy then uttered a few words that I never thought that I would hear, “A train? Here? This was a railway station, but it is now abandoned and is now mostly a cemetery”, I couldn’t believe it. My mother and the train were just a figment of my imagination. I asked him if there is a specific reason this cemetery has been built here while the railway station was still built up and not taken down.

26

A Mother's Promise The boy replied “Well this train carried a very bad disease which spread a few days ago costing the lives of a few hundred people, these graves were dedicated to the names of the people who died from the train disease or the train crash”. I didn’t listen to him, I had already gone near the cemetery grounds and was staring at the names, but not just any names, I was looking at one in particular, I could already understand who it was just by reading the name, ‘Myra Altaria’, My mother… I then started tearing up, then when I opened my eyes, I was in another room, another world altogether, then I saw my Mother and next to her my Father, my mother was crying right on the palm of my hand saying “Get up Rena, you can do this” while my Father looked sad but he was far. I recognized them, and then understood where I was at. I was at the hospital and I was taking my last breaths, I had been imaging it all along. I then told my mother a few nostalgic words from my dream. ““I will always be with you, My Mother”.

27

Empowerment of EDUCATION On the 12th of May 2010, A girl named Naomi was born into a family of farmers. Naomi lived with her parents in a farmhouse wherein her parents always used to argue about the farmhouse and other related statements. Naomi’s Father did not let Naomi get an education while her mother always wanted Naomi to get an education. Naomi never got education from a school, she has just studied from whatever her father and mother taught her. She also sometimes goes to a nearby school and sneaks a peek at what the students are learning through the windows to properly get educated and maybe help her family get richer and move to a more stable place in the future. Naomi was a smart child, from a young age she could easily understand concepts without having much doubts. She wanted to learn more about the economy and how the world works, but her Father disagreed and kept telling her that she had enough educational material to study. Naomi’s parents would often argue over if she should get education from a school with official teachers or not.

28

Empowerment of EDUCATION Once Naomi was 12, she asked her father to go to a school wherein she can learn and get educated more about economy, her father declined and told her that she, like himself, should be working around the farmhouse rather than getting an education. After hearing this, Naomi got furious with her father and did not talk to him for a few days. After a few days of Naomi being furious at her father, he went to her room and tried to find out where she was. When the father could not see her, he was petrified. Suddenly a group of teachers were seen coming near the small house near the farmhouse, looking for Naomi’s father. The teachers had finally caught Naomi peeking through the polished windows of the school and went to find her father to ask him about her admission in the school. Though the father was relieved that Naomi was found and brought back to him, he was frazzled about the school coming up to him and asking about an admission, reflecting to himself that it might cost a lot of money. The teachers looked at the stunned face of the man when they asked him the question and decided to tell him that the admission expenses can be cut in half especially for Naomi since they saw how passionate and curious she was about education. Her mother was eavesdropping on the conversation when she added a few words of encouragement to her husband for letting Naomi get education into the school lead Naomi’s father willing to send Naomi to the Institute. The teachers were merry hearing that Naomi can join the school and proceeded to tell the parents the school timings, school hours, etc. Naomi was satisfied with what her parents did for her and deemed it as the best birthday present they could give to her.

29

Empowerment of EDUCATION The annoying sounds of the alarm can be heard coming from Naomi’s room. A half awake Naomi screams in excitement “It’s the first day of school!” upon realizing the time, she is panicstricken due to her being late for packing her bag and going to school. Although Naomi was so energetic she completed the morning tasks hastefully. As she was leaving, Naomi stuck out her hand in the air and waved to her parents while shouting out loud “Bye” in a cheerful voice. Naomi arrived at the school, though when she opened the doors of the school, she was awestruck now understanding what the inside of the school halls looked like, since she had only seen the classrooms and not the halls and structure of the building properly. Having a hard time remembering which class she is in, she gets lost in her head trying to remember and then while in this state a student walks up to her and asks her if she is new here. Naomi nodded her head telling him that she is new. The boy introduces him as Miguel, Naomi replied with her name. The school bell rings and Naomi asks Miguel if he knows where her class is. Miguel replied that he remembers his teacher telling the class yesterday of a new admission in his class so Miguel took her to his class and by a lucky chance he was correct! But as days and months pass by Naomi even though being loved by the teachers around her she gets stressed at home about homeworks and her classmates since she gets bullied often in the new school due to her not going to any school previously, people talk behind her back casting her as uneducated girl who has come from a poor family.

30

Empowerment of EDUCATION For a few months, All of these thoughts got into Naomi’s head and made her lost in confusion about her education and also got worried about being bullied by her class and schoolmates. Her parents and teachers started noticing her becoming afraid of the school and her parents encouraged her by reminding her how important education is over anything else, “learning concepts and getting education is what schools are for” is what Naomi’s mother told her. Naomi decided to learn properly, also gathering information on global identities and research and sharing it all with her parents each and every day. Benefiting the family with 1 person going to school brings the idea to Naomi’s head that she can gather information from the school and then later tell it to her whole family so they also get properly educated and learn new concepts, which in her head was the true theme of education. While in school, Naomi was looking outside the windows for a minute near the farmhouse, as she saw it lit on fire. Naomi’s father realized what had happened and started to overthink what happened and how it occurred and how to stop it. While Naomi’s mother tried to calm him down, she remembered a concept that Naomi had told them a few days back about how when a place is set on fire, they should first take out all of the fire-affectable materials first, so that the fire does not spread and they should evacuate the humans from the house. Using this gathered knowledge, Naomi’s father took out all the haystacks and other items that can catch on fire and removed the animals hastily.

32

Empowerment of EDUCATION The worried father suddenly became happy that he has sent his daughter to a school where he could learn something that can end up saving the farmhouse that his side of the family has been using for many generations. He then took a water bucket and took out all the fire by hand, since it didn't spread fast and did not grow that big. Naomi in tears came home early from school, thinking the worst could have possibly happened. To her surprise her father and mother were outside the farmhouse with a table and 2 chairs drinking coffee and reading the daily newspaper. The parents thanked her for lending her knowledge to them to help escape the situation. Naomi got even more curious and devoted to learning new things. Several

years

later…

Using her knowledge, her parent’s support and her determined will, Naomi created a company that makes some of the finest institutions in the world today. Her parents supporting her and the co-owner of the company, Miguel giving the best support that he possibly can, She achieved her goal making her company world-wide known and many articles being written on her and the “Theme of Education” making her a Multi-Millionaire, with this she could help her family sort out of poverty. The company’s headline is “Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world for ourselves and others”. The way education changed Naomi’s life.

Her true love The shimmering sun she found In her blue bloomy eyes But was concerned about the world's lies To have a her true love to be around She wanted her love to rise For her to be more precise But she shattered on the ground every time One day the true love she found in a herself Couldn't spot anywhere in her life She wanted to dedicate her life She wanted to began A new feeling which she never felt She wanted to fidget in her own nature But was also scared about it to denature She wondered what if this feeling unfelt But her love always exhibited her quench for true love Which was as pure as a dove

34

Mirror-Mirror on the Wall

My daughter and I were strolling by this dark woodland on a chilly night. Even though it was very difficult for me to see anything around me due to the darkness, I could detect an ongoing earthy fragrance. I could also make out black tree trunks, plants clinging to everything, and barely discernible dark tracks winding through the vegetation. My kid was as frightened as a rabbit in a wolf's cave while I searched for home under the bright moon's guidance. I felt like a terrible mother right now to my daughter as I got this situation on us and we both were affected by this circumstance. The search for a home seemed to have no end. We were moving on and on, and as we were strolling by, I thought that life may take us at any time and at any limit; it could either be our happiest hour or something you would never want to even glance at. As I attempted to comfort my kid while she continued to weep, I felt powerless. Suddenly I heard a train screech, and we fled as though someone who was thirsty had discovered some water. We knew we could make it there in time after seeing a train traveling quite slowly, but to my surprise the train appeared to be slowly disappearing, we were astonished, it felt like we were dreaming a horrible dream which never should have come true in our entire life time, After the terrifying event, I simply couldn't stop thinking about it.

35

Mirror-Mirror on the Wall I felt like the main character in a horror movie attempting to experience all that had happened. I just prayed to God while I sat with my infant; yet, my body was so exhausted that I was oblivious to the fact that I had fallen asleep. The following morning, I awoke because the sun was so brilliant that it was burning my eyes. When I looked up, I was startled to see a large castle in front of me as I noticed that the train was also there last night, I thought I had been afflicted with a terrible spell. Initially, I had planned to avoid the home and go far away since I believed it to be cursed, but after seeing my sad kid, I found it impossible to continue walking. My heart compelled me to enter the castle even though my intellect was telling me to flee; I simply stood there and gazed at it. It was so enormous that it was bigger than an elephant. With its heavily defended, tall and gray colored walls. It had the appearance and feel of a fortress from the Middle Ages. If I looked closely, the house appeared to have been abandoned after someone had lived there for a while.I chose to enter the castle with all of my confidence after having innumerable doubts. I rang the bell at the castle's main gate but had mixed feelings about going inside; I waited for a while but no one seemed to open the door; after waiting for a while I thought about leaving but then I heard the door open.

36

Mirror-Mirror on the Wall A tall guy was standing there; he had a towel in his hands, was wearing a butler's uniform, and appeared to be seeing a woman and a child for the first time in his life. "Hallo, ich bin Elijah James, wie kann ich Ihnen helfen?"he said.I asked him if he understood how to speak English because I couldn't understand what he was saying, and he said, "Yes, madam, I do. My name is Elijah James. How can I assist you?" I said, "I'm lost sir, is there any possibility you can provide me a place to stay for a few days while I figure out my way further. "Yes madam why not!" he exclaimed, and as I saw his exuberance, I began to have my doubts. I asked him what he expected in return, and he replied, "Nothing much, lady, you just have to keep the castle clean daily," which we both agreed was not a huge issue. When I first entered the house, it was filthy, even smelled bad, and almost seemed as though no one had been inside for 30 years. There were spider webs hanging everywhere, tables and chairs covered in dust, broken glasses on the floor, the wooden floor creaked, the walls were painted a dull gray, giving the impression of an old castle, and even the lanterns were dull The butler then led me to a chamber where my daughter and I could stay. When I asked him how long he had lived at the castle, he said, "I am not sure, but it has been a long time to be quite honest, I don't even know my exact age. When I discovered that he doesn't even recall how long he has been in this place or his age, I was astonished and quite skeptical.

37

Mirror-Mirror on the Wall Later, as I was looking about the room, I saw a huge cabinet inside. I made the decision to open it to look inside, and when I did, I discovered a number of garments belonging to women around my age laying around, I was questioned about them. So I made the decision to question the butler about it. When I explained the scenario to him below, he stated, "This was all left by the last lady who was living here, since she was in a hurry she didn't pack anything and simply fled away." I remarked, "Ok, no problem."His answer still left me unsatisfied, and I was now being questioned more. When I got back to the room, I glanced in the mirror and saw all the wounds from the journey that had taken place all night. I tried to walk behind the mirror but for some reason I felt like it was pulling me toward it. I thought maybe I was just too exhausted and upset from traveling so I accepted it as a misunderstanding and forgot about it. Later the butler invited me to dinner, and I informed him that I would feed(milk) the infant first and then arrive promptly.I decided to go downstairs for dinner after I had finished feeding the baby and getting him to sleep, but by the time I got there, the butler had already finished eating and had stepped down to his room. I took the food he had left on the table and went back to my room to sleep, and that night was the first time in a long time that I slept peacefully.

38

Mirror-Mirror on the Wall The following morning I awoke in a cheerful mood, went to brush my teeth, take a bath, and then decided to approach the mirror. As I approached the mirror, I suddenly heard "hey can you hear me," which terrified me. I rushed down to the butler and told him about the situation, and he advised me not to pay attention and told me it must be my misunderstanding. I had barely returned to my room to clothe my infant when I heard the voice asking, "Hey can you hear me?" I again raced down in terror as quickly as I could, but I chose to calm myself down by rationalizing that perhaps my ears were ringing. As I bravely made my way back to my room, I heard a voice say, "Please don't be afraid of me; I am here to assist you out sweetie." I mustered up the guts to respond, "Who are you and why are you attempting to connect with me?" "You are not secure in this area. Please run as quickly as you can," the replying voice said. I was haunted by this. The voice responded, "I am here stuck in this mirror, I can never come out of it, there are hundreds of females with me locked in here, please flee," as I grew more self-assured and attempted to identify the source of the voice. when the butler suddenly entered the room and questioned me in a deep voice, "Who are you trying to connect with?" I replied "nothing sir I was just trying to make myself comfortable around here", he said, "Well you have to start working now," and I bowed my head and started working right away. I simply couldn't stop thinking about the voice in my room as I worked; I could feel its reverberating in my ears constantly.

39

Mirror-Mirror on the Wall I hurried back to my room after finishing my job so I could talk to the voice once again. Hey, are you there? I want to speak with you. I tried to ask the voice, "Why are you urging me to flee and why are you communicating through the mirror and why are hundreds of females confined with you in there," assaulting her with numerous questions. I tried to ask the voice, "Why are you urging me to flee and why are you communicating through the mirror and why are hundreds of females confined with you in there," assaulting her with numerous questions. The voice said, "You kindly run before you are in trouble." This butler is not nice; he traps the ladies who come to live here and keeps them trapped in the mirror forever, the voice retorted. She stated that when he was a younger guy and used to live in his village, he had a bad history with females. He once attempted to sexually harass a woman, but she exposed him to everyone, leading to severe beatings and a shameful removal from the town. He took the decision to punish all ladies who entered the cursed castle he had built starting on that day. When the voice was completed, I heard a loud chuckle, and when I turned to look, I saw that it was the butler. I had a terrible panic attack, my heart was racing, and I was perspiring all over.

40

Mirror-Mirror on the Wall Here I am, and I don't believe I need to explain what I'm going to do, so come here, let's send you on a lifetime vacation, the butler said. At the time, I was unable to think of anything. I was standing next to a glass vase when I suddenly saw it. I quickly grabbed it and smashed the butler's head as hard as I could. The butler lying on the floor unconsciously, viciously cursed me as I was leaving, saying "You will confront the dark one day, the evil side will come and take you away forever, and you will never have a golden hour." Except for thinking about the curse,I swiftly snatched my infant in a fit of terror and ran away so that no one could find me.

The Set To Success There was a boy named Jerry who lived in the village of Rome, with his mother ( Bella ) and one little sister ( Tracy ), He was from a lower class family. He liked studies and also had selected his career. There was a school, 2 miles far. One day when he was returning back after playing with his friend, he suddenly saw a board there. It had some details regarding new admission, ( ohh god now I can also study! ) he ran towards his house without reading about the fees to pay for admission. ( mother mother the school is taking admissions. Let’s go! ). Next day when he and his mother went to the school for admission, they were trying to meet the head of the school but they were not allowed because of their clothes and status.

They were returning home but Jerry regretted what happened in the school with them. Suddenly he planned to study and get educated without going to school ( I will show that bad people that status doesn’t matter for education ), then he was unknown, how to study he got an idea to go to the classes near his house. After returning back to their house Jerry went to search the correct location of those classes, but he got it but not having enough guts to speak to his mother about the classes. He plans to go for inquiry and admission. There was also the same issue of judging by the status of the person. He plans to hide behind the window of the class and learn the things he did try but the teacher caught him. The teacher saw his talent in studies and was impressed. He invites him for the class to learn without paying fees. After 20 years he goes to study abroad and gains the certificate, after returning to his native place in Rome He becomes the Chief minister of that place. He even releases a new law, there will be no difference between poor and rich people for study, both are equal

The Forest Once upon a time, in a dense forest, a group of animals lived together in harmony. They were all different in size, color, and shape, but they all respected and cared for each other. One day, a drought hit the forest, and the animals started to face a severe shortage of food and water. The bigger animals like the elephants and the rhinoceroses managed to find water, but the smaller animals like the rabbits and squirrels struggled to find enough to drink. Seeing this, the bigger animals decided to hold a meeting to discuss how they could help the smaller animals. After a lot of brainstorming, they came up with a plan. The elephants and rhinoceroses would dig deep wells in the ground, which would provide water for all the animals. The monkeys would collect fruits from the trees, and the birds would bring seeds for the animals to eat.

The animals all worked together, and the wells were dug, and food was collected. The smaller animals were overjoyed and grateful to the bigger animals for helping them during the difficult times. And, in turn, the bigger animals were happy to see their smaller friends happy. The drought eventually ended, and the forest became green and lush once again. The animals continued to live together in harmony, and they never forgot how important it was to work together to help each other, no matter how big or small they were. From that day forward, the animals all lived together in peace, and they all remembered the time when they came together to overcome the difficult times. They learned that by working together, they could overcome any obstacle and that they were all equally important to the survival of their community.

The Two Friends Two friends shared a good bond. Their names were Sam and Ram. Their financial status was not very good but still, they were living happily. Their parents were not educated but they were willing to make their loveable children highly educated. They also were telling their child to study properly and, in the future, they should get a lot of respect and be on a good post. Sam liked to study and he had a dream of becoming a businessman. For that I need to study in a good school but I know that our financial status is not good.

So, I never tried to ask my father to make me study at a good school. After some days when I was studying my mother and father came to me and told me that I know me and my mother was not educated but I am trying to make sure I study properly. When Sam told his father I want to study in a good school. Then this father says that he will make you study in a good school. You have to promise me that you will not do timepass in the school and bring good marks in the exam. After some time, Ram calls Sam. Ram asks Sam will you come to play near my house? We can play cricket then Sam says no I cannot come, I need to study. My parents told me that I have to score good marks in my exam. Ram tells us who will study for the exam and we can play and enjoy. Sam says no you only play. I will study and get good marks in the exam. Then Ram starts fighting with Sam.

If you don’t come to play, I will never be your friend and I will never speak to you. Sam’s point of view was that he used to feel studying was more important than playing but Ram’s point of view was that he used to feel playing was more important than studying.

56

The Two Friends Ram’s school teachers also told him if you do not study you will not be able to achieve the dreams which your parents saw for him. Ram replies who will study if we play, we can make our future bright. After some days Sam tries to explain the importance of education to Ram. Sam tells him that if he studies properly one day, he will also become a great person and fight for our freedom. If you only play and not study it will be very hard for you to become a good person. So, you should also study not only play for the whole day. Ram tells everyone who will study so if I don’t study what will happen. Sam says you are wrong, there are many people who don’t have money to take proper education. There and people who live in villages they need to struggle a lot for getting proper education. For example, some people need to cross many mountains to go to school, some people need to walk and go to school. Ram says yes you are right we also need to study not only play. From now onwards I will also study with you and after studies are done we will play for some time. Sam says ok we will play and study together.

A Cricket Poem I will love cricket forever. Until I don’t die, In cricket I am very honest and I never lie, I love playing and seeing cricket so much that whenever I will go to heaven there also; I will play and watch cricket there. May be I am not perfect in cricket but my game will be always rare, Cricket is not just a game or sport for me. Cricket is everything to me.

Whenever I see the stadium, I'm always hearing The sound of flying birds chirping in the ears. The air that goes inside my soul appears, The bright blue sky makes my soul very peaceful. The greenery of the grass makes me sleepful, The hot yellow bright sun that brightens my eyes, And the beautiful stadium looks like a surprise. The sound of the stadium’s roar, Reverberate with six and four, Down the pitch, Bowler says over the arm, Cricket has its own charm, But the stadium cheers for batsman’s glory, It’s time to change the whole story

58

A Cricket Poem When I was in grade 4, I got my first kit. When I first saw it, And now whenever I see my cricket equipment, it makes me smile. But the cricket journey was way of miles, It made me feel like a cricketer and makes me feel very joyful, Whenever I go to the batting, bowling and fielding I look at the beautiful pitch of cricket. Cricket is the best, forget the rest, And the chosen few, Are the men in blue, So, cricket has its own thrill, And for tickets each and every fan can kill. My favorite player is M.S. Dhoni My favorite Mahendra Singh You will always be our king He is known as captain cool You are the principal of “cricket school”, Dear 7, You are best for any 11 Mahi bhai, From blue you- may be “bye” But in our hearts and yellow always “hi”

Through the mist It was dark and misty, there was no light, nothing was visible, only a small and old mansion that looked like there were ghosts in it. I was with my grandmother. We went to the woods to search for some fresh, juicy fruits. But to our surprise all the fruits were finished but we saw a very small trail of light, which we followed and it led us here to this crappy old mansion. At first sight me and my grandmother were hesitating to go in but because our surroundings were misty, the visibility was low so they didn’t have any choice but to go into the mansion. But when we went into the mansion there were bats that attacked us but the weird thing was there were not a single scratch on our bodies, it was like there was spirit in the house. After some time, the lights switched on. On their own, me and my grandmother were frightened like anything we didn’t know what to do, we were clueless. My grandmother decided to see if she could call my mom and dad but there was no signal, that means we were stuck here forever and we couldn’t do anything to get out. It had been two days since we had been here. There was no food, no supplies we needed to survive, my grandmother was falling sick just then there was a spark on the first floor. My grandmother told me to go and see “what was it?" When I went there, I was scared as this was an abandoned, old and a crappy house, the spark could have been anything, fire, a supernatural being, but to my surprise it was food like fruits and vegetables along with water. It was like something was protecting us and giving us whatever we asked for.

60

Through the mist We had been there for a week, my grandmother was falling sick again as she was disconnected from the social world. We had been eating raw vegetables for the last few days, hence, out of misery my grandmother said looking up at the sky “Dear God please give us cooked and healthy food”. Immediately there was another spark and my grandmother told me to check what it was, when I went there it was what my grandmother had wished, that is, cooked food. We enjoyed the food for two more days and my grandmother was feeling better than she had in her entire life. My grandmother was saying it is good to be here as this was very relaxing compared to the stress we get in our city. After a couple of days there was another spark this time my grandmother and I both decided to go up on the first floor. But my grandmother was hesitant as this time around she had not wished for anything. But I insisted that she come along with me. When we went there, there was a strange, scary creature that looked thousands of years old, at first, we were scared but then the creature said you are first people who have come here in a very long time, he said this mansion belongs to prince Luke, it is said that this mansion grants wishes and you can ask for whatever you want and you will get it. But there has always been someone protecting it and granting the wishes, in this case it is me. You might not know but your ancestors had a long connection to Luke’s family and looks like after centuries finally you guys came here.

61

Through the mist I am so happy to finally give up my responsibility of protecting this mansion. Now you and your grandma will be the new guardians of this castle for another 3000 years, may I wish you the best of luck. Me and my grandma were so excited to keep this mansion protected.

Impact of racial division on education of individuals This is the story of a young boy from India who had illegally travelled with his parents to Canada. His parents had illegally migrated to Canada for more job opportunities. After a few months his dad got a job and was able to afford a home, put his son Sidhu in a school, but little did he know Sidhu was going to face many problems that would interfere with his education. For a few days Sidhu was enjoying his new school; he was making new friends and also impressing the teachers with his critical thinking and conceptual understanding, but it was only until he met a gang of students named Joshua, James and Joe who were always bullying him for his skin colour and his clothes. They called harsh things like black dogs, ugly faced idiots etc. Eventually because of the mental stress he got after tolerating the bullies he had an emotional and mental breakdown. Later when he told his parents they were very disappointed and told him to tell the bullies, that there is absolutely no need of being bullies but we can be friends. The next day when he tried to tell him this they embarrassed him in front of everyone saying who will be friends with such an ugly person.

63

Impact of racial division on education of individuals Many days pass Sidhu keeps getting bullied, but one fine day in the cafeteria a teacher spots Sidhu getting bullied by Joshua, James and Joe and reports it to the principle, later the principal calls Joshua, James, Joe and Sidhu to his cabin and asks what happened, to Sidhu, then he narrates that how from the last 2 months he has been bullied because of his race, hearing this the principle was really disappointed for the behaviour of the three. Next the end of semester is close everyone is informed the dates of their semester exams, but Joshua, James and Joe don’t care so they refuse to study even a little but it was only before the principal told them if you don’t get an A this year, we will have to ban you from extra-curricular activities and you will have to sit for extra classes during that time. Listening to this the three of them were in horror as all they were passionate about was sports and they like nothing more than it. Just 2 weeks before the exam they realise that they were not able to study the adequate amount to get an A. Later the principal told them to take help from Sidhu as he has always been an A+ students, but at first, they refused thinking that Sidhu won’t help them because of the way they treated him, then Joshua says that we should apologies to him and convince to help us.

64

Impact of racial division on education of individuals Joshua, James and Joe then went to ask Sidhu for help and he happily agreed to help but he had a condition, that Joshua, James and Joe should not bully him again, they agreed and started to study with Sidhu immediately. After being with him for 2 weeks they understood how kind he actually is. It is time for the results and all Joshua, James, and Sidhu are excited for the results. When they first get their papers, they are really happy to see that all 4 of them get an A as a result they decide to have a party to celebrate their achievements, the next day they also bring Sidhu a brandnew pair of Air Jordans as his old shoes were very cheap and torn, after receiving the gift Sidhu tries it and thanks Joshua, James and Joe. This story shows us how racial differences don’t matter in Education as everyone has right to education, and we shall not judge someone based of their race
