Social Security Board of Trustees: Projection for Combined Trust Funds One Year Sooner than Last YearCombined Funds Move Back a Year to 2034; OASI Fund Moves Back to 2033—A Decade by Jesse Barksdale

from Now

The Social Security Board of Trustees today released its annual report on the financial status of the Social Security Trust Funds.  The combined asset reserves of the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance and Disability Insurance (OASI and DI) Trust Funds are projected to become depleted in 2034, one year earlier than projected last year, with 80 percent of benefits payable at that time.  The OASI Trust Fund is projected to become depleted in 2033, one year sooner than last year’s estimate, with 77 percent of benefits payable at that time.  The DI Trust Fund asset reserves are not projected to become depleted during the 75-year projection period. In the 2023 Annual Report to Congress, the Trustees announced: • The asset reserves of the combined OASI and DI Trust Funds declined by $22 billion in 2022 to a total of $2.830 trillion. • The total annual cost of the program is projected to exceed total annual income in 2023 and remain higher throughout the 75-year projection period.  Total cost began to be higher than total income in 2021.  Social Security’s cost has exceeded its non-interest income since 2010. • The year when the combined trust fund reserves are projected to become depleted, if Congress does not act before then, is 2034.  At that time, there would be sufficient income coming in to pay 80 percent of scheduled benefits. “The Trustees continue to recommend that Congress address the projected trust fund shortfalls in a timely fashion to phase in necessary changes gradually,” said Kilolo Kijakazi, Acting Commissioner of Social Security.  “Social Security will continue to play a critical role in the lives of 67 million beneficiaries and 180 million workers and their families during 2023.  With informed discussion, creative thinking, and timely legislative action, Social Security can continue to protect future generations.” Other highlights of the Trustees Report include: • Total income, including interest, to the combined OASI and DI Trust Funds amounted to $1.222 trillion in 2022. ($1.107 trillion from net payroll tax contributions, $49 billion from taxation of benefits, and $66 billion in interest) • Total expenditures from the combined OASI and DI Trust Funds amounted to $1.244 trillion in 2022. Social Security paid benefits of $1.232 trillion in calendar year 2022. There were about 66 million bene ficiaries at the end of the calendar year. • The projected actuarial deficit over the 75-year long-range period is 3.61 percent of taxable payroll – higher than the 3.42 percent projected in last year’s report. • During 2022, an estimated 181 million people had earnings covered by Social Security and paid payroll Taxes. • The cost of $6.7 billion to administer the Social Security program in 2022 was a very low 0.5 percent of total expenditures. (Continued on page 4 )

• The combined trust fund asset reserves earned interest at an effective annual rate of 2.4 percent in 2022. The Board of Trustees usually comprises six members.  Four serve by virtue of their positions with the federal government: Janet Yellen, Secretary of the Treasury and Managing Trustee; Kilolo Kijakazi, Act ing Commissioner of Social Security; Xavier Becerra, Secretary of Health and Human Services; and Julie Su, Acting Secretary of Labor.  The two public trustee positions are currently vacant. The Santanic Flu!

Crime and violent b e h av ior are comm o n in our society t o d a y, and the ones who comby Jesse Barksdale mit these crimes act as if they are on some kind of drug. The way criminals act sometimes is not normal, and fluid comes from their noses as if they have a fever. I call this kind of acting the “The Satanic Flu”, because I do not know how to describe their personality and what is happening to them. I’m not an MD, and neither do I claim to be. “Dr. Quazi Imam, MD stated in one of his articles about a mind controlling drug called “sco-polamine: Is this mind Control Drug the the “Most Dangerous” in the World” “Devil’s Breath”. Urban Legend or the World’s Most Scadrug? Devil’s Breathe is derived from the flower of the “borrachero” shrub, common in the South American country of Colombia. The seeds, when pow-

dered and extracted via a chemical process, contain a chemical similar to scopolamine called “burandanga”. Borrachero has been used for hundreds of years by native South Americans in spiritual rituals.” “The compound is said to lead to hallucinations, frightening images, and a lack of free will. Amnesia can occur, leaving the victim powerless to recall events or identify perpetrators.”, Dr. Quazi Imam stated.” I found out in doing my research that this drug; Effects are so strong that scopolamine has at times been used by governments as a “truth serum” during interrogations. “According to a 1995 Wall Street Journal article, about half of all emergency room admissions in Bogota, Colombia were for burundanga poisoning. Scopolamine is also present in Jimson Weed (Datura stramonium), a plant found in most of the continental U.S. Under the name Roofie, most people associate the drug with sexual assault, as it is known widely as a “date rape drug.” Although, there are several other drugs that fall into the “date rape

drug” category, including GHB and Ketamine, and the “Colombian Devil's Breath” (Scopolamine). The question I have is can a drug be powdered and put in a container, sprayed into a crowd of people, and have a scent of a fragrance? The reason I say this is because there are mass killing throughout America almost every other day, or week, and not only in America but in other countries as well. “Medical Science has said that there are drugs such as “cocaine, methamphetamine, amphetamine and synthetics’ nicknamed “bath salts” and “spice.” They all have a “severe downside of these drugs is that they cause paranoia, aggression, and even delusional behavior.” These types of drugs will cause one to have personality changes. Medical professionals noticed that cannabis increased about 67% between 2007 and 2011, and many who went to the emergency were caused by cannabis.” When a person goes through personality changes it may be that person uses some of these drugs. (Continued on page )

Page 4

(Continued from page 4)

There are some who can use two drugs mixed together and they do not have a personality change. They take the drugs for medical reasons and one day they use cocaine or marijuana. What will happen to the person? Maybe nothing for 99% of the people who mix the drugs. But there are 1% of those who mix the drug may have some problems. Now, there could be more reasons that cause a person to go out and commit mass murder. One reason could be that person has a deep belief in a way of life and finds out it was not the way to live and this could cause aggression and personality change. “ Those who are teachers or ministers trying to deal with those who have personality changes. It would be wise to keep a lookout for medication they may be taking. There is another problem that is beginning to be common in many areas of our society and that is emotional disorder and mood disorder, which can cause a person to become delusional and have a strange behavior that is not recognized by an untrained person. MASS SHOOTINGS IN 2023 “There have been 131 mass shootings with four or more people wounded or killed so far in 2023 compared to 113 this time last year. Shootings have continuously ma-de headlines in just the first few months of the year. “So far in 2023, 11,523 people have died from gun violence in the U.S, as of April 10, according to the Gun Violence Archive – which is an average of roughly 115 deaths each day. Deaths by suicide made up the vast majority of gun violence deaths this year – about 57%, the nonprofit gun violence tracker

a killing spree in Shanghai, China. Six people died and four others were injured. The perpetrator allegedly beat to death a coworker at Guangyu fine chemical company in Shanghai's Baoshan District, and then shot to death one person in Pudong District. The perpetrator shot and killed one person in the Baoshan District, and then returned to the fine chemical company, where he shot to death three more people before being apprehended. The suspected perpetrator is 62-year-old Jieming Fan.” Luxor massacre “The Luxor massacre was a terrorist attack that occurred on 17 November 1997 in Egypt. It was perpetrated by al-Jamāʻah alIslāmīyah and resulted in the deaths of 62 people, most of whom were tourists. It took place at Dayr al-Bahri, an archaeological site located across the Nile from the city of Luxor.” Israel 2002 Hadera attack “On Thursday, January 17, 2002 a Palestinian gunman, 24-yearold Abdul Salaam Sadek Hassouneh, killed six people and wounded 33 at a bat mitzvah celebration in Hadera, Israel” Research the mass killings “Several mass shootings have occurred in Asia, including the 1878 Hyderabad shooting and 1983 Pashupatinath Temple shooting in India, the 1938 Tsuyama massacre in Japan, the 1948 Babrra massacre in Pakistan, the 2014 Peshawar school massacre killing 149 people, the 1993 Chongqing shooting and the 1994 Tian Mingjian incident in China, as well as the 2001 Nepalese royal massacre”

MASS KILLING IN HISTORY Let’s look back go back and look at one of the first mass killing. This was in “1888 in South African farmer named Stephanus Andries Johannes Swart on July 21, 1888 who killed at least 8 people and wounded 3 others in Charlestown, South Africa on 6 May 1927, before killing himself.” Kenya “On 2 April 2015, gunmen stormed the Garissa University College in Garissa, Kenya, killing 148 people,[1][2] and injuring 79 or more. The militant groups AlQaeda and Al-Shabaab, which the gunmen claimed to be from, took responsibility for the attack.[3] The gunmen took over 700 students hostage, freeing Muslims and killing those who identified as Christians. The siege ended the same day, when all four of the attackers were killed. Five men were later arrested in connection with the attack, and a bounty was placed for the arrest of a suspected organizer.” Hyderabad shooting “On 24 June 1878, a Baloch sepoy in the British Indian Army killed 6 people and injured 4 in Sindh, British Raj. The unnamed Sepoy man killed his mistress whom he had suspected of infidelity. Armed with a Martini-Henry and 100 rounds of ammunition, he went on a shooting spree in Hyderabad. He shot anyone in his proximity, eventually suffering a mortal gunshot wound caused by an officer armed with an Adams M 1872.” Credit: 2013 Shanghai shooting (WikipediaThe Free Encyclopedia) “On June 22, 2013, a man went on

Meet The Founders of Landmark

Mike and Karen Minnis believe in gardening with a mission. The couple runs the Landmark Training Development Company on Carnes Avenue, just off Airways in the Orange Mound area. What you’ll find after encountering the couple is not just the wonderful provision of food, but wisdom and actionable tips to improve your life. With Mike Minnis at the helm, Landmark Training is able to operate a farmer’s market, food pantry, urban outreach center, and other advocacy programs. The Minnis family runs a two-acre farm in inner-city Memphis, which was inspired by their son. Despite all of the obstacles that can arise with developing a farm in an urban area, the founder and Landmark Training staff were up to the challenge. Their hard work earned them the top prize at Tennessee’s Small Farm Expo. Minnis offers Landmark Farms tours, which gives visitors an upclose and personal experience of what it takes to maintain an urban farm.

West Tennessee New Farmer Academy

Tennessee State University Cooperative Extension is excited to announce that its 5th Annual W. TN New Farmer Academy course is scheduled to begin on April 27, 2023. Our goal is to provide research-based information, paired with time honored practices and real-world examples, to introduce participants to agriculture in the western area of Tennessee. The course is a 7-month certificate program designed for those with an interest in becoming agricultural entrepreneurs. Ideal candidates for this program include those who are new to agriculture; those who wish to transition into agriculture from another field, such as military service or private sector work; or those who are looking for a post-retirement opportunity.

The program focuses on teaching concepts, providing information, and facilitating the hands-on experience along with connections needed to build a solid, viable and successful agricultural business. Also, NFA is TEAP approved for Application A certificates issued 2018 or subsequently. All workshops will begin on their specific dates at various farms or agriculture operations throughout Shelby County and surrounding counties in Tennessee where we will complete the classroom training component of the program. We will venture from there to multiple locations around our area to experience more West TN agriculture. Educational topics are:
